Long Cardigan Outfit with Crop Utility Pants

Greetings on this fine fall Monday! Although, I have to say, it feels more like winter than fall. It’s 38 degrees here in Philly this morning. Brrr… But anyway, you’re here for the fashion, not the weather, so let’s discuss today’s look. I’m styling a long cardigan outfit with crop utility pants for fall!

Long Cardigan Outfit with Crop Utility Pants for Fall Fashion

You may remember this tee from this fall white jeans outfit. I love how the rust color plays off the cool tones in that look, but I also love how it pairs with earth tones like beige and olive green.

Unfortunately, this color is low inventory, but I found some other options for you. They’re linked at the end of the post.

You’ve also seen these pants before. I styled them 5 ways back in August, so it’s easy to see how versatile they are.

I really like the fit on these, and how they have the look of cargo pants without the flap pockets that can add bulk.

They’re soft and stretchy, and I would say they run true to size. They were quite snug on me at first, but they did loosen up some with wear. I’m wearing my usual size 6.

Also worth noting, these pants are meant to be a crop length, with a 26″ inseam, and they also come in petite sizes.

I paired them with the Marc Fisher booties from the #NSale. These boots were under $100 during the sale, but right now the price tag is pretty steep. I’m hoping they go on sale again closer to Black Friday.

This is the Cloud Suede, and I love how it coordinates with the oatmeal color from the cardigan. Darker boots would work too, but it would create a heavier look overall.

The boots have a higher shaft, so they actually pair perfectly with the crop pants. When I wear longer pants with these, I need a cuff, or a wider leg that can be worn over the shaft of the booties.

The cardigan is yet another #NSale purchase! Even at full retail price, I think this sweater gives you a lot of bang for your buck.

It’s verrry soft and cozy, but on the thinner side, and there are no pockets or yokes or extra details to add visual bulk. Plus, the slim, longline silhouette is elongating.

I do recommend sizing down in this sweater, though. I have the XS, and it’s still plenty roomy.

I accessorized with my gold J initial pendant and a Victoria Emerson bracelet, which I’m happy to say is back in stock!  The Alicante boho cuff is probably the one of hers I wear the most. I just love combination of silvery beads and coins with the pale crystals and metallic chains.

And then I carried my taupe R Minkoff Love crossbody with the gold hardware. As I’ve shared before, this exact color/size combo is no longer in stock, but you can find the current offerings here.

I also want to be sure to let you know that the Tory Burch McGraw crossbody I often link to is on sale in certain colors, including the silver maple.

The Kira quilted leather tote that I have in black is also on sale, as is the pebbled leather version, which I think I actually prefer. It’s a little less dressy, and the pebbled leather might hold up better… although I have no complaints about the quilted one.

Anyway, I hope this look inspires you to shop your closet and put some of these colors together in various ways.

    1. I’ve never been one to wear them but google ‘Joanna Gaines clogs’ and you’ll see the styles of clogs she wears and the outfits She pairs them with…& you’ll see they can be very cute and current! It’s definitely a look but when done well I think clogs can be very Anthropologie hip!

  1. Jo-Lynne,

Great outfit! I have a question about styling the booties. If you wear them with crop pants or pants with a cuff, is it ever OK to wear visible socks that can be seen above the booties? Or do they need to be no-show?
    Thank you!
    Sara

  2. Wow! Love every last thing about this outfit. I kind of want this to be my fall uniform. Wait. Who am I kidding? I love clothes too much to stick to a uniform 😆. Great post!!

  3. I just bought two long sweaters so this outfit has inspired me to put together cute outfits. I thought the long sweaters would looking slimming. Next time out shopping, I’m going to try on a rust top and see if it works with my colouring. I can wear orange but not sure about the darker shades. Love this outfit!

  4. I love the color palette in this outfit. I ordered the tee back when you originally featured it and the color was beautiful, but it was too much fabric in the torso and I felt like I looked pregnant the way it draped. My size is XS so I can’t go any smaller than that. I can’t wait for tops to get a little more streamlined. I’m crazy for olive cargo pants and bought a pair from BR at the same time I bought the pink sweater you featured last week. And totally loving the booties. I have the darker brown color but would love the lighter color. As soon as it goes on sale, if I can wait that long!! 🙂

  5. Well I can pretty well put this look  together.. I’m not a rust or orange fan on me, so what color tee could you swap it with other than a white or black? Our days are also getting cool so cardigan weather may be short lived 🤷‍♀️. Can you do a post soon on lifestyle sneakers? How to wear them with more than just leggings or joggers? If there are other ways? Thanks 😊

  6. Love this look! And the fall colors! My question – when you wear a variety of jewelry, it looks great, but I when I try to combine similar pieces – earrings, necklace, and bracelet – it seems to be a jumble that clashes and distracts instead of compliments. What’s your strategy for combining items?

    1. Hey Phyllis. I usually try to wear one piece that’s more of a statement piece, and then the rest supporting pieces. So, like a TV show has a star and then a few supporting actors… haha! That just came to me.

Usually, I choose a necklace or earrings to be the “star” and then the other to support. And then the bracelet is a supporting piece. But this time, the bracelet is more of the star, and the earrings and necklace are both on the smaller scale. I think they work together pretty well b/c neither is large or overpowering the other.

If I wear large earrings, I rarely wear a necklace, or I may wear something delicate. Likewise, if I wear a large or layered necklace, I usually opt for simple studs or hoops.

  7. I have a very similar pair of utility pants on today from Old Navy. Maybe you shared an alternate option back then? I just wore a boring cream top be used I didn’t have the rust or a fall colored option and wanted to wear my new snake mules today 😊

  8. Great outfit. and you look amazing as always. I have the top and the sweater in black (I had to size down to XXS, it does run big). I love the look of the booties with the pant. It is difficult for me to pull that off being 5 ft. I always have to cuff the pants and sometimes, to be honest, they look silly on me. Do you have a suggestion for us shorter gals on how the best way would be to style jeans with booties? Sometimes when cuffing them the cuff appears bulky.. Thanks.

    1. My best advice is to wear booties with a lower shaft – so your pants can be a little longer. The higher shaft on these is tricky and even at 5’5″, I feel like it can make my legs look stumpy.

  9. I love this outfit!  It says Thanksgiving to me.  This is a look that I can recreate with items in my closet, so I best save one of your pictures to Pinterest as a reminder.  Boy, it was chilly there this morning, wasn’t it!  Our 55 was perfect.  It has been an absolutely fabulous fall day here.  Enjoy your evening!

  10. Smiling at the weather. The smoke has cleared our area. The girls are running around in crop tanks and daisydukes. Its 89 on my patio and I’m about to go inside and turn on the AC. I could theoretically wear this outfit because I have all the pieces. But sweaters are just piling up on the bedroom chair!

  11. I bought this outfit and love it!! The sweater is super soft, glad I got the xxs, have the pink sweater in xs and it’s a little big. Thanks!!
