Never trust a woman who wears mauve, whatever her age may be…

or a woman over thirty-five who is fond of pink ribbons.

I guess Oscar Wilde would not approve of this sweater, but I think it’s just mauve-alous!

Okay, enough with the mauve jokes. I couldn’t resist!

Spring Outfit: Mauve Sweater with Bootcut Jeans

This mauve sweater has been a workhorse in my wardrobe this spring because it’s a nice weight for our cold weather that doesn’t want to let go, but the dusty pink lends a springy vibe that makes me happy.

I love the stitching detail in the knit, and the length is perfect for me at 23″. It’s shorter than some, so keep that in mind. It works really well with high rise jeans, although when I wear it with my lower rises, I don’t feel like I’m exposed when I move around and sit down.

Right now it’s marked down to like $26, which is a great price for Ann Taylor quality. Even if you don’t think you’ll get much wear out of it this season, it might be worth buying and putting away for next year.

This sweater pairs well with white, black, and blue denim, and you could also wear it with pants to work if you need work wear ideas.

For today’s post, I paired it with my favorite bootcut jeans.

These jeans are a nice medium wash indigo, and they have a contoured waistband for a gap-free fit. The 7FAM b(air) technology is really amazing. If you have trouble with your jeans bagging out or sliding down, you should really try these.

If bootcut isn’t your thing, they also come in skinnies and a straight leg style. As an added bonus, they’re currently 25% off on the 7 For All Mankind website right now.

SALE ALERT >> The 7FAM Friends and Family Event is on! Enjoy 25% OFF sitewide plus FREE SHIPPING with code FF25.

For size reference, I wear a 28 in 7FAM jeans. If you tend to run in between sizes, I recommend going with the smaller one.

Spring Outfit: Ann Taylor Mauve Sweater with 7FAM Bootcut Jeans and Vince Camuto Kensa Perforated Peep-Toe BootiesI’ve been asked if these Kensa peep-toe booties would work with bootcut jeans, so I wanted to show you how well they do.

For me, a 4″ heel is perfect with these particular jeans. Of course everybody is built differently, but just keep in mind that the hem of your bootcut jeans should be about 1/4″ – 1/2″ off the ground.

Sometimes it’s necessary to have them altered to work for your height or the shoes you want to wear with them, but the small cost of tailoring is well worth the perfect fit.

These shoes are extremely comfortable and quite versatile; I wear them with skinny jeans, bootcut jeans, and dresses.  They’re selling out fast, but there are still some sizes available at Nordstrom Rack, and the price is amazingly good for this brand. Definitely snap them up if you’ve been wanting a pair.

I finished off the look with my leather hobo and some simple jewelry.

I like to wear a long pendant necklace when I wear a plain sweater like this because it draws attention up and down and helps balance out the high neckline.

Since it’s been so cold here in PA, we took a few pictures with my grey wool cocoon coat over top.

I actually ended up wearing this outfit to an appointment with our accountant and out to lunch with Paul afterwards — and yes, I needed the coat! Spring Outfit: Ann Taylor Mauve Sweater with 7FAM Bootcut Jeans and Vince Camuto Kensa Perforated Peep-Toe Booties + J.Crew Cocoon Coat

This dressed-up casual spring outfit is perfect for lunch out with friends, a date night with your significant other, or casual Friday at the office… and hopefully I’ll be able to ditch the wool coat very soon!

  1. Good morning!  I have just finished Kelly’s Course. I’m curious what shape you are?  I’m short waisted pear.

  2. Great outfit and I love the indoor pictures!  Thanks for the reminder that it’s FB Live Tuesday today!

  3. That color looks so good on you!  I love the whole outfit, and the coat really makes the sweater color pop!  I chuckled when I saw the word “mauve”. I just spent Saturday afternoon visiting my sister.  She remarried a few years ago & was talking about when she first moved into her husbands house & how it took her forever to “demauve” it!!  Mauve was her deceased MIL’s favorite color. She also shared that when they went to to place flowers on her grave, there was a nice big mauve colored headstone!  I’ll never look at mauve the same again…..

  4. Love the bootcut jeans in this outfit. You look great in these jeans. I’m not a huge fan of skinny jeans on my curvy or pear shaped body, so I like the balance of a boot cut jean.

  5. I love pink on others but not a color I can wear. That’s a great look for you. I’ll have to catch FB live later. Have appt.

  6. Question:  I recently purchased a very sheer shirt – brought it home and tried it with 5 different cami’s and decided to return it because I couldn’t decide on the length of the cami. Is it supposed to be the same length as the shirt or   do you tuck it??!! Do you wear a tank style so bra straps don’t show? Failure…

  7. On the FB Live today, can you address shirt length? I know it’s all about the 1/3 and 2/3 but would like to know more.
    Thanks!

  8. Are you acquainted with the poem by Jenny Joseph, “ When I am old women,  I shall wear purple.”? I don’t know where I heard but it is funny.
We’ve ditched our winter coats for our Spring ones at  the beginning of March. I hope you see spring weather soon.

  9. Jo-Lynne  you look so pretty and pulled together in this outfit. I love how the boot cut looks! I have a very similar sweater from Loft and I have so enjoyed this season too. Thanks for the info on ordering from Nordstrom Rack never considered it for online! Learned something else from you! Julie

  10. It’s funny how we, or at least Oscar Wilde and I, associate certain colors with things. That’s why I’ve had such a struggle with this lavender trend! I’ve always associated it with “old ladies,” ha, ha! But I’m learning to love it!

Beautiful sweater. But I do hope you all get some warm weather soon. Of course, even here in southern Arizona we were in the 30s this morning! Have a great day!

I am so glad I took the leap and took Course 1 , wow it has helped me tremendously. I can’t believe the things I have learned . I have already signed up for Course 2 . Thank you introducing me to it . I am really excited about Course 2 , especially the shorts section, that will be interesting. Anyway Thank you again and have a wonderful afternoon!!!

  12. Love the title you gave this post! I am a faithful reader but as soon as I saw the caption “Never trust a woman who wears mauve” I was intrigued and couldn’t wait to find out more.
Also, bootcut jeans are my fave so I was happy to see an outfit that featured that style.

  13. You look good. I keep thinking of ordering sweater but not sure about mauve. Still think of the 80’s. But I sure need a warm spring looking sweater in my cold rainy spring. I have the red one on now from Loft. :). I ditched my warm coat for tan trench but freezing today in it. Ugh. Warm Spring where are you?

  14. Oh my I used to be a sucker for mauve lol .. when we built our first house in 1993 our ensuit countertop was a mauve design ha!! And you know growing up there was an older lady that attended my church and her hair was mauve but she wore it well 😉 it must have been a grayish mauve

  15. I love love this sweater! I remember thinking you’d be nuts not to keep it during your IG try on, lol. It’s adorable on you, and I love it styled this way too!

  16. SALE ALERT!  Just bought this sweater in the mauve and the black………on sale for 12.35!  Woo hoo!
