Menu Plan Monday

We’ve had some drama in our house over the weekend, so I’m getting a late start to my week.  Also.  The blog design biz is booming, which is a GOOD thing since the kids need fall clothes and school supplies, but I seem to be able to focus on only one job at a time.  Either I’m in design mode, or I’m in writer’s mode.  If only there was a cleaning mode and a laundry mode…

Add to all that, I’m supposed to be starting my Candida diet this week, and suddenly Menu Plan Monday just suddenly seems like a lot of work.  Bah humbug.

Of course, with a very specific diet, menu planning is also essential.  Otherwise, I will instantly regress, as I did this morning when I poured myself a bowl of granola with milk.  Since dairy and gluten are two huge no-no’s on the Candida diet, that was a huge step backwards.  I only just started observing the diet yesterday.  Yeah, go me!

I really should get all temptations out of the house, but my family might revolt.  So I guess I will need to develop some will power.

All that to say, here is my very loosey-goosey menu plan for the week:

MONDAY: Leftover hamburgers and hot dogs

TUESDAY: Chicken in a Pot, fresh steamed green beans, quinoa

WEDNESDAY: Something fishy?  I will go to Wegmans and see what looks good.

THURSDAY: Gosh this is hard. Um… Let’s go with steak on the grill and a veggie.  Maybe corn or potatoes for the fam.

FRIDAY: Pork?  Chicken again?  I have to keep things pretty simple, but I’m certainly open to suggestions.

Really, could I BE any more boring today?  I may have to stop Menu Plan Monday posts for a while. Never fear, I’m working on a post about my favorite back-to-school products and I still have a few book reviews in the works from my vacation reading series.  Stay tuned…

  1. good luck on your new eating plan! I dislike menu planning in general so I only do it twice a month (Hubby gets paid every other week) and only grocery shop twice a month too lol

  2. Jo-Lynne, I have been looking for your chicken soup recipe and I can’t seem to find it. Can you direct me to the right place, please? Thanks 🙂

  3. We have a lot of menus like this. 🙂 For the two or three days that we have “chicken and vegetables” written down, I just rely on two different spices I can add to the chicken, to change things up a bit. (Sometimes, I mix the two spices….because I’m wild like that.) I still have havarti cheese left over from a chicken recipe, so I imagine we’ll be stuffing chicken with cheese at least one night this week. (Obviously, this may not be an option for you as I just read that cheese is not recommended on the Candida diet.)

Quick and easy (while still remaining tasty) is the name of the game at our house.

Good luck with your diet and the menu plan this week!

  4. Maybe I missed it, but why the candida diet? I’ll be interested to hear how it works for you. I’ve been eating raw buckwheat crispies and almond milk – comes close to cereal when you need a cereal in milk fix.

    1. I haven’t officially blogged about it. I almost feel silly at this point; how many more life changes can a girl make? LOL. My doc thinks that Candida might be the cause of a lot of my medical issues. I don’t know if that’s it, I don’t have some of the signs, but at least the Candida diet would probably benefit me so it’s worth a shot.

  5. Menu planning is quite a challenge when there are dietary restrictions, isn’t it? My husband is now eating on a Modified Atkins Diet to help with his seizures. He is allowed only 15 net carbs per day. So my meal planning has completely shifted.

For a foodie like me, this has been quite the challenge (https://prostheticmemory.wordpress.com/2010/06/25/surrender/). But as I’ve gotten used to shopping and cooking for this specific diet, it has become easier. We eat protein, protein, protein. I supplement by giving the kids toast and butter with every dinner.
strangest thing is, my husband needs to keep increasing his FAT intake. Somehow, this helps with seizures.

But ultimately, the health benefits outweigh the sacrifice. Stick with it and see if it helps. I’ve thought about doing the candida diet myself, but found that going without carbs and sugar on Atkins was actually making me feel worse. God bless!
