Milking the New Years Theme for All It’s Worth

New Years Meme

I love me a meme.  I always have, although I don’t do them as often as I used to.  But I found this in my archives and thought it might be fun to do it again.  Plus it’s just one more day that I don’t have to create my own blog topic.  SCORE!

You might want to grab a cup of coffee. This is a long one.

1. What did you do in 2008 that you had never done before?

I learned Adobe Illustrator and started my own business.

2. Did you keep your new years resolutions, and will you make more for next year?

I don’t think I made any, and if I did, I’m sure I didn’t keep them.  I’m thinking if I’d kept them, I’d probably remember them, but then again, maybe not.

3. Did anyone close to you give birth?

No, but two someones close to me got pregnant for the first time!

4. Did anyone close to you die?

No, thankfully.

5. What countries did you visit?

None. In fact, I’ve never visited another country, unless the Bahamas counts. How lame is that!?  (Same answer as 2006.)

6. What would you like to have in 2009 that you lacked in 2008?

Let’s see.  A new car and a deck on my house with steps to the backyard and a kitchen re-do, for starters.  I don’t ask for much, do I?  Realistically, though, I couldn’t ask for anything more than I had in 2008.  2008 was an incredible year — one I’ll never forget.

7. What dates from 2008 will remain etched upon your memory, and why?

Dates don’t usually stick with me, but my brother got married on October 4.  I’ll go with that.

8. What was your biggest achievement of the year?

Starting my own business, for sure.

9. What was your biggest failure?

Losing my temper too often with my kids and my husband. I really want to get better at this.  (Same as 2006.  That should tell me something.)

10. Did you suffer illness or injury?

No, fortunately my illness seems to be behind me.

11. What was the best thing you bought?

I bought an iMac when I started my business back in March.  That was by far my biggest and best purchase of 2008.

12. Whose behavior merited celebration?

What a silly question.  I dunno.  Not mine, that’s all I know!

13. Whose behavior made you appalled and depressed?

LOL.  Can I say my 3-year-old?  (I’ll delete this post before she’s old enough to read!!)  I have never had a child as defiant as she.  I think I’ve gotten too lax with discipline in my old age.  Either that or she just has a stronger personality than the other two.  It’s probably some of both.  That said, she is utterly delightful a lot of the time, and I adore her.  It’s just when she gets in a snit, WATCH OUT.

14. Where did most of your money go?

Gosh, where does it all go, that’s a good question. After the house payment, probably groceries. That was my answer in 2006.  We’ve actually started tracking our spending, and I was exactly right.  It’s amazing what we spend at the grocery store.  I really need to start couponing.  Or something.

15. What did you get really, really, really excited about?

Getting asked to go to Disney World with Maria Bailey!  That was SUCH a surprise and a treat.  (Don’t know why the photos in my link aren’t working.  Will inquire of my WordPress gurus. 🙂 )

16. What song will always remind you of 2008?

I don’t guess I have one for this.  (Same as 2006.)

17. Compared to this time last year, are you: a) happier or sadder? b) thinner or fatter? c) richer or poorer?

a) Happier, I guess.  I don’t remember how I felt this time last year.

b) Probably fatter, but only by a few pounds.  I fluctuate a lot.

c) Monetarily speaking, we’re pretty much the same, I guess. But I’m infinitely richer in terms of friends and loved ones — both in the cybersphere and in real life.

18. What do you wish you’d done more of?

Reading my Bible.

19. What do you wish you’d done less of?

Eating.

20. How did you spend Christmas?

With my family in Virginia at my parents’ house.

21. Did you fall in love in 2006?

I fell in love with the Mac!  LOL.  I never knew what I was missing before I got my iMac.

23. What was your favorite TV program?

I’ll go with Dancing with the Stars.

24. Do you hate anyone now that you didn’t hate this time last year?

Nope. Life is too short for hatred.

25. What was the best book you read?

Lone Survivor

26. What was your greatest musical discovery?

Passing on this one.

27. What did you want and get?

Good health and safety for my family.

28. What did you want and not get?

Nothing that truly matters.

29. What was your favorite film this year?

Ashamedly, I have to say it was Sex And The City.  I know it’s trashy, but the storyline and character development was very good.  I just wish they’d leave out some of the smut.  Entirely unnecessary, imo.

30. What did you do on your birthday, and how old were you?

I honestly can’t remember.  I think I must be the poster girl for PATHETIC.  Oooh.  I do remember that Hub sent me shopping the day after my birthday.  That was fun!

31. What one thing would have made your year immeasurably more satisfying?

Not a thing.  Honestly.  I have health and love and job fulfillment and security — there is nothing more I could want.  And I know that I’m extremely blessed to be able to say that.

32. How would you describe your personal fashion concept in 2006?

I’m going for casual comfort without sacrificing style. I’m basically a jeans and t-shirt kind of girl. With cute shoes. Love shoes!  (That was my 2006 answer, and I wouldn’t change it except to add that I have made a concerted effort to accessorize more, and that’s been a lot of fun.)

32. What kept you sane?

My faith and my husband.

34. Which celebrity/public figure did you fancy the most?

Eh.  I can’t think of anyone who is particularly impressive to me.

35. What political issue stirred you the most?

Well, um, THE ELECTION of course.  The issue?  Hmmm.

36. Who did you miss?

My friends and family who live far away.

37. Who was the best new person you met?

I couldn’t possibly choose.  And if I start listing them, I’m afraid I’ll forget someone.  So I’ll leave it at the many bloggers this year at various events.

38. Tell us a valuable life lesson you learned in 2008.

This year has been full of learning, but I haven’t really had time to reflect upon it yet.  I guess what I’ve learned is that if you want to do something and don’t think you can, give it a try.  You just might surprise yourself.

Okay, YOUR turn!

  2. That is a fun meme. Great idea. I can definitely relate to eating too much and reading my Bible NOT enough.

Can’t wait to see what 2009 holds!

  3. I laughed at your favorite tv show answer. I think I distinctly remember a while back you saying you just didn’t get that show. LOL. And now look, you’re listing it as your fave. I knew we’d win you over!

  4. Oh My Gosh! I can’t believe I made your list because meeting you has to be one of the highlights of 2008. I have to say the moms I met at WDW and the AA Mom Blogger event a few months later, touched me in ways that are hard to explain. I feel so fortunate to have a group of moms I call friends around the US. I can go to just about any state and find a smiling friendly face and even if I don’t see them often, I know I can pick up where we left off. I am truly blessed. Thank you for adding something special to my life. You are an amazing woman and I love watching your business grow! Hope to spend more time with you in 2009!

  5. Aw. How sweet was Maria’s comment?!

I’m with you on the grocery spending. I simply cannot believe how much it costs to feed these peeps. I think one of my New Years Resolutions should have been to starve the heck out of ’em! 🙂
