Mock Neck Dolman Sweater + Bootcut Jeans

Hello and welcome back to 26 Days of Fall Fashion! I cannot BELIEVE we are almost thru this style series, and it doesn’t even feel like fall yet. It was 90 degrees in Philly yesterday. Crazytown!

Cyndi and I always do our seasonal collabs on the earlier side of the season for various reasons, but usually by the end the weather is starting to catch up. Maybe October will feel more like fall.

Today I’m styling a pale pink mock neck dolman sweater and bootcut jeans.

And yes, I realize this is remarkably similar to the pink bell sleeve sweater I styled with grey jeans just a few weeks ago. If I’d realized how similar they are, I would have ordered this sweater in a different color. It also comes in black, a charcoal grey, and a silvery grey, and I love them all. In fact, for $39, I’m tempted to order another.

To me, this sweater is more casual than the other pink sweater, although I realize I didn’t necessarily style them that way. This sweater is cozier and I can see myself throwing it on with skinny jeans and mules any day of the week, whereas the other sweater seems more like church or date night, but really, they’re pretty much interchangeable.

Don’t you just love these sleeves, though? I know, the bell sleeve trend is getting out of control, but for some reason I continue to be drawn to them. It’s such a fun detail, and I don’t think I’ll have a problem living and working in these. They might get in the way when I want to load the dishwasher, but I can work at my desk and eat my meals without any issues.

For size reference, I ordered a medium in this sweater. It’s Nordstrom’s BP. brand, so it’s junior’s sizing, and I didn’t want it to be too tight. I could maybe wear a small, but I like the slouchy fit.

I also like that it’s not super long, but it is longer than the other pink sweater I keep referring to. For me, this is the preferred length. The other one is a bit shorter than I like, but it’s nice quality and very soft. I’m sure I’ll wear both a lot this fall and winter.

My choice of bootcut jeans is more for variety for the blog than my first choice for styling this sweater, although they certainly work fine together. This is something I’d wear to meet a friend for coffee or for a quick trip to the mall. I feel like it’s a bit dressed up for working at home.

These are my 7 For All Mankind Kimmie bootcut jeans that came in a Trunk Club last spring. You’ve probably seen me style them before. They’re soft and thick and have a great fit. These jeans have a 33″ inseam, which is perfect for me when I wear a shoe with a 3 1/2″ or 4″ heel. (Of course, everyone is different; I’m 5’5″ for reference.)

If you are much taller than 5’5″ and need a longer pair, this pair of 7FAM Kimmie bootcuts has a 36″ inseam.

And if you’re looking for a similar style for less, these Wit & Wisdom Ab-solution bootcut jeans get a ton of great reviews, although the inseam is 32″ so they’re a tad shorter than mine. I’ve tried their Ab-solution skinny jeans and I like them a lot. I recommend sizing down though, as this brand will stretch with wear.

I wore grey suede ankle boots with a 3 1/2″ heel, and they’re just about the right height for wearing with these jeans. My boots are from last year, but there are a few left at Nordstrom Rack. This year’s version is nice too, in fact, I think I prefer the lighter grey.

It occurred to me while editing these pictures that this sweater would probably work really well with those metallic mules I wore yesterday. I can see it with them and a lighter wash skinny jean, or even white jeans. Maybe I’ll try that next time.

Finally, I accessorized with silver jewelry and carried a grey bag with silver hardware. I really like this adobe pink with silver accessories.

  1. I think this sweater hits the right note by being a little different and fun, yet not being too “out there” for most of us!! Not that I don’t like the “out there” clothing, but sometimes it doesn’t fit into my lifestyle!!
I really think this color is so nice on you, Jo-Lynne!!!

  2. Hey, Jolynne! I’m taking the AYW class, finally! Really learning a lot. Just curious as to your body shape?
Thanks! Love the sweater. It looks so pretty on you!

  3. This look is one of my favourites of the fall series. This would be my go to “uniform” for fall. I have been thinking about investing in a really good quality pair of jeans, so this was super helpful in making up my mind about which pair to buy.
BTW, your hair and makeup look fabulous. You’re glowing.

  4. I’ve been looking for a bell sleeve top that’s not too over the top and I think this is it!  And you know I love you in boot cut jeans!!

  5. Love the sweater and jeans! I wish I could wear the booties you recommend but due to an old injury I can’t wear such high of heels. In future posts, can you recommend some that have a 2 1/2 inch heel and lower?

  6. That color sweater would be great with maroon pants.

I may need to order it.  ????  Just trying to figure out if the sleeves would bother me too much.  But they are soooo cute!

  7. I love this look. Casually elegant ( I’ve always loved this phrase!) I  just ordered the sweater and hope I like it on. I sometimes struggle with junior sizing for some reason so I don’t often shop juniors but am trying this! So pretty!

  8. You look fabulous!  I snickered reading the height if your heal on the boots because there’s no way I could ever wear heals that high.

  9. Oh my!  That color is stunning on you!  You do look great in boot cut jeans.  Nice proportions.  The sleeves on the sweater would drive me crazy although they are the least fussy of the sleeves out there in the marketplace.  I’m looking forward to tailored, whole sleeve styles being in the forefront again.  Great series!

  10. Very cute sweater on you.  I wouldn’t have looked at this twice if I went by the look of the model online.  It just hangs on the model.  Very cute outfit.  Wanted to thank you for the information you gave me on the Paige jeans. I did go back to return the ones that were my normal size and sized up and they fit perfect and I’ve worn them 2 days in a row and they don’t stretch out.  They are from Nordstrom Rack and are the Tami style. Love the color denim they are and the quality.  🙂  Nothing like a new pair of jeans. 🙂  Now, I wish the HOT weather would go away and we all could dress in our FALL clothes.  Ha Ha
