Much Ado About Nothing

It is Monday morning, the first of 2011, and I am in denial.  Today on blogs all over the world wide interweb, I see posts with menu plans and New Years resolutions and reflections and fresh starts.  But here at MOAH, we will have none of that. NONE, I tell you!

Later this week I will attempt to unpack the bulging suitcases that line my upstairs hallway, make a meal plan, grocery shop, take down 2 Christmas trees and the outdoor lights and decorations, organize the kids’ rooms to make room for their Christmas loot, write the 6 articles that I have due by the middle of this month, hit the pavement in my Vibrams for my first run of 2011, and tackle the blog designs that are patiently waiting in my queue.

But today?  Today I plan to do to . . . nothing.

After I get my kids off to school, I plan to spend the rest of the day in my sweatpants reading blogs and drinking coffee and hanging out on Twitter and Facebook and maybe even reading more of The Sheer Ecstasy of Being a Lunatic Farmer while sitting by the fire in my slippers.

If I get really ambitious, I might get a shower before the kids get home from school, but I’m not making any promises.  Everything else can wait.

What are YOU doing today?

  1. Love it! I am figuring out what to do today but it will definitely include coffee and pjs! Have a wonderful lazy Monday! Can’t wait to see you again at Blissdom!

  2. I’m planning on doing almost the same thing. Except….I already took a shower. Had to. For once, I’m glad my kids are going to school today.

  3. Sounds like a great day ahead for you! I hope the year ahead is a great one for you and your family.
I am back to the old routine of running errands while the children are in school but I enjoy it, especially the part that includes taking the baby with me. This is such a cuddly, fun stage. I just wish it weren’t so cold!!! Maybe I’ll sit by the fire while the two youngest nap this afternoon.

  4. I actually made a few resolutions for this year, so I have some plans for this morning. But nothing too outrageous. One step at a time, right?

Have a wonderful day, you deserve a little rest. 🙂

  5. You MUST be in denial because you said today is the first Monday in 2010. 🙂 My kids don’t start school until tomorrow but we pretty much plan to spend our day the same way you are … relaxing, in PJs, playing games and enjoying our last day before the rush starts. All that other stuff will still be there tomorrow … and the day after. Glad you had a happy Christmas!

    1. Yeah, well, I’ll be waking up tomorrow to mounds of laundry, unpacking, and christmas decorations too. But for today, I’m going to pretend it doesn’t exist! 🙂

  6. Sounds like a good plan, so wish I could too. But my daughter has a doctor appt, so that means I have to leave the house looking somewhat presentable. 🙁 Have a fun day!

  7. Sounds like fun, I don’t get to lay around and do nothing very often. I am tagging along with my hubby on his work trip to Destin/ Panama City, for my birthday. Kiddos are with my dad for a few days, It will be nice since #3 is due in 8 weeks. I have some reading for the car ride, Ted Dekker’s Heaven trilogy and Omnivores Dilemma (Wh ich I finally found avail at the library) Enjoy your day!

    1. Have fun! I tagged along on my husband’s trip to Seattle last fall and it was SO much fun. I absolutely loved Omnivore’s Dilemma. I’ll look into the Heaven trilogy. That sounds intriguing.

  8. First off, be sure to read my blog.

And nada! No menu plan for me today either. I am already at work (although bombarded), but relaxing at thesame time, like reading your blog. This new year will be about living life to the fullest and not fussing about the small stuffs.

And if you ever feel the need to plan for anything. I created a FREE 24hr Work-Life Planner, perfect for moms who juggle life – https://www.workingmomjournal.com/24hr-work-life-planner/

  9. I’m sitting here knawing on an apple-starting to shake with fear that I haven’t worked out in a YEAR. WHY on earth did I decide to now?!?!?! hahaha. ((Maybe cause of talk of baby 2 and I don’t want to deliver needing TWO beds instead of one! lol))
Anyway-GREAT for you! Enjoy your day! By the way.. what’s a MOAH? =)

  10. My children are off school until tomorrow. Since we took down the Christmas decorations yesterday, we will work on any homework they have and start putting away our new toys. Enjoy your day!

  11. Sadly I must clean today, from top to bottom. But it is for a good cause, my bestest friend in the whole wide world is coming up tomorrow, the first time I’ve seen here in 4 years. And I’ll be you know what that she see’s my house filthy. So on my agenda is unpacking suitcases, laundry, ironing, putting away toys, cleaning kid/guest room, and packing away Christmas decorations.

    Enjoy your day doing nothing.

  12. Well, unfortunately, I don’t get to relax anymore….I did that some last week during Christmas/Winter break. Back to work today with all the little children! all 500 or so that go to my school. So I’m sitting in the library at my desk checking books in and out and doing lots of other fun library things! 🙂 Would much rather be home relaxing and reading! But, I did get to read The Pact by Jodi Picoult last week. Have a great day, after all your celebrating and traveling…you deserve it!!

  13. Well, I’ve got lots to do today (although I’m not sure I’ll get to it all). I think you’ve got the right idea though — your day sounds perfect so enjoy — you’ll get everything done soon enough! Happy first Monday of 2011 🙂

  14. Today is Will’s last day home.

WE are going to be lazy most of the day and later we will go to our first Tae Kwon do lesson in over 2 weeks.

At the moment I am going through my reader 😀 and the boys are watching TV. Nice.

but the dishes. and the laundry.

    Tomorrow 😀

  15. I feel better knowing that I am not the only one with a similar agenda today! I do have to run out for some milk and a couple things, but that’s about all. DH is still off for a few weeks, so it is nice to have some free time with him.
There are a whole lot more days left in 2011 to do plenty of real work!

  16. Your day sounds heavenly! My kids are still home, they go back tomorrow. But we are still taking it easy for most of the day. I am doing a 100 Days Fitness challenge, so at some point I’ll do something with the Wii Fit. Have to cook dinner. One kid has basketball practice tonight. Oh, and time to get back to doing a budget, so Husband and I will do that later. I’m avoiding the many messes that need my attention though.

  17. Ugh I’m back to work today. But I did NOTHING all weekend. A teeny tiny part of me wanted to get everything organized, cleaned, planned and ready to start back. But, a bigger part of me wanted to stay in PJs and play, read, relax. That part won. Clearly, based on the wrinkled look and random lunch I have with me today 🙂
    Enjoy your day!

  18. I started the day out with high hopes and big plans…and now they are falling apart. I’m enjoying the peace of my dd and siblings being at school too much to get a whole lot done. And now my plan for the rest of the day is…laundry and crochet. At least I’m not the only mom out there who has no motivation for housework today.

  19. Today I am enjoying the fact that I am ALONE! I also went for a run, went to the grocery store and am in process of doing laundry.

Unfortunately I have 100 more things that need to get done but right now, I’m heading to the kitchen to eat a Reese’s cup. Hey – I ran this morning so it’s okay!

  20. Deep cleaning the bedroom. Which hasn’t been cleaned since we moved-in *cough*5monthsago*cough*. No wonder my husband can’t breathe! If I finish before school is out then I’ll watch tv while I fold clothes.

  21. Me? I’m sitting here with a zonked out baby with a full diaper. He finally bit the dust after filling up and I don’t want to wake him to change the diaper so here we sit. Poor boy has a whopper of a cold and has barely slept the past couple of days. The girly girls are watching Thomas. I may get a shower today too, I however, have until my husband gets home so that gives me a couple more hours than you.

  22. It is such a lazy day…. or at least I hoped it would be. Alas, today is the day my husband and I are both at home and not exhausted, so instead we will be running errands to Target, BB&B and maybe even ikea (I am working on a face-lift to our place for 2011).

It seems, no rest for the weary…

Oh, and if you’d like you can check out my blog as you do your perusing!

  23. Oh so envious! After two glorious weeks off, I had to go back to work, we all did. It’s cold and I really just wanted to stay in my pj’s and now it 3:45pm and I want to take a nap!

  24. I drove to my parents’ house today in the NC mountains with 3 of the children. I’m relaxing in my slippers, fiddling with pictures, looking forward to my mother’s quiche (which I never get at home). The one kid who attends public school had to stay home and go to classes this morning, but the 2 homeschooled girls are still on vacation with me 🙂

  25. Entirely too much. But I’m so inspired by this post I’m trying to schedule a day when I can sit and read blogs and facebook and drink coffee in jammies by the fire. You’ve inspired me!

  26. You crack me up 🙂 I, too, have no resolutions to post and no grand plans – just trying to get through the day without the house falling apart. And now I have to go add your Joel Salatin book to my amazon wishlist 🙂 how’s that for a sort-of-new-years-resolution?

  27. I had to head back to work. Don’t feel too sorry for me I’m off tomorrow. I work 2 days a week (outside the home) and it nearly kids me! Oh did I mention my children are grown……..Oh well. Looking forward to Blissdom!
    Blessings,
    Cyndi

  28. It was so funny to see how many folks were in the gym today, starting off the new year with the top resolution (lose weight). BTW, I love your blog. I’m going to email you.

  29. What I did today was dream about next week when I am settled back at home and drop my son off at school for 5 hours of absolutely nothing. Thanks for the inspiration and I hope you enjoyed your transitional day!
