My Best Purchases of 2016

I’ve seen a few variations of this post around the web, and I thought it was fun, so I decided to do one of my own! These are my favorite products from last year that I love and would buy again in a hot second (and therefore, highly recommend!) Most of these are still available, but if not, I’ll link to something similar.

My Best Purchases of 2016

My Best Purchases of 2016

Best Handbag Purchases of 2016

Clare V. Leopard Foldover Clutch. I loved this bag from afar for months (years?) and I had a dupe that was okay, but I carried it so much that I decided it was worth investing in the real deal. When Shopbop had their 30% off sale a few months ago, I ordered it and never looked back. It’s the perfect pop to any going-out outfit, whether it’s dressy or casual, and it’s such nice quality. None of the knock-offs come close. (also shown: AG Raw Hem Legging Ankle Jeans, Moonbow Sunnies c/o Maui Jim, Stella & Dot Becker Cuff)

Tory Burch Convertible Leather Bag // I know this is no longer available, but I can’t NOT mention it in a best purchases of 2016 post because I’ve carried it so much. It goes with practically everything, and it’s a great size when you don’t need to carry that much and you want a bag that isn’t too cumbersome. It was a Nordstrom Anniversary Sale purchase that sold out super quick, and I’ve never seen it anywhere else. Next year I will definitely shop handbags and shoes first at the #NSale because they sell out so fast.

R Minkoff Mini Perry Satchel // I just bought this, but I’m super excited about it, and I know I’m going to carry it a lot. I wanted to update my black Moto Hobo, which I’ve carried a lot over the past couple years, and is no longer available. This satchel has a nice, structured look to it, and it holds a plenty without being oversized. It’s a great everyday bag, and I know I’m going to get a lot of use out of it. I removed the cross-body strap because it is skinny and got in my way. I’ve just been carrying it by the handles, and it’s fine, but if I ever take it to the mall, I’ll attach the shoulder strap so I can shop hands-free.

Best Shoe Purchases of 2016

Tory Burch Miller Flip Flops. These were an early 2016 purchase that I had to put away and keep for a few months until it got warm enough to wear them, but I wore these sandals non-stop throughout the spring and summer and into fall, and they still look like new. They’re the only sandals I kept out for winter; I bring them with me to wear home when I get my monthly pedicure. They are so comfy, and they go with everything. The look great with shorts, dresses, skirts, jeans, anything. Like the Minnie Travel Flats, they never go on sale, so there is never a bad time to invest in a pair. If I could have bought only one pair of sandals all last summer, it would have been this pair. I can’t wait to start wearing them on a daily basis again.

Lucky Brand Wedge Bootie.

Lucky Brand Brooke Legging Jeans

Felicia Ballet Flats in Leopard. I actually discovered the Felicia Flats in 2015, but I liked my nude ones so much that I ordered the leopard ones last summer, and I’ve worn both pairs SO much. They are the most comfortable ballet flats I’ve ever owned, and that includes my Tory Burch Minnie Travel Ballet Flats, which I adore, but I don’t think they’re worth 2x the price on the comfort factor. The Minnies are super cute, though, so I wear them a lot.

Best Clothing Purchases of 2016

AG Raw Hem Legging Ankle Jeans. You’re probably sick of seeing these by now. I think I wear them 5 days a week some weeks. Ha! I had wanted AG legging jeans for ages, and when Shopbop ran a 30% off sale last fall, I snagged these with the raw hem, and I’m so glad I did. The fit is fantastic, they feel like pajamas, and they look great too. I know not everyone is into deconstructed denim, but if you are, these are totally splurge-worthy. Get the look for less with these Articles of Society Sarah skinnies. (also shown: C by Bloomingdale’s V-Neck Cashmere Sweater, Stella & Dot Celestial Choker and The Wishing Necklace)

Splendid Draped Waffle Knit Thermal Hoodie. You have heard me sing the praises of this piece over and over and over again. I love it so much, I have it in two colors. (And I make it a policy never to buy duplicates. This one was worth the exception, though.)

Paige White Skinnies. These are the PERFECT white skinny jeans. I adore them. They don’t show through, they move with you, they’re snug but not tight, they’re the perfect length (I’m 5’5″) and they simply look and feel fantastic. I wear them all year round. I do recommend sizing up, though. For size reference, I have these in the 30, and I wear 29 in DL1961 and 28 in AG. (also shown: Lucky Brand Tribal Necklace, Banana Republic Cashmere Blend Boatneck Sweater, Via Spiga Nude Pumps)

T. Tahari Tonya Pleat Dress. I’ve only worn it once, but I’m so glad to know it’s in my closet for any time I need a go-to LBD. This dress is so flattering, has great structure, the material looks more expensive than it is, and it wears well all day. I also highly recommend the pumps and shoulder bag I’m wearing in the picture below. Both are classics that I’ve worn over and over already. (also shown: Sam Edelman Hazel Pointy Toe Pumps and Similar Shoulder Bag)

C by Bloomingdale’s V-Neck Cashmere Sweater in Grey Multi Donegal. This is such a basic, but the donegal pattern adds interest, and it fits so well. I find myself wearing it over and over again. It is currently 66% off, and I’m debating ordering it in another color. That Electric Pink is calling my name. For size reference, I’m wearing the small. (also shown: AG Raw Hem Legging Ankle Jeans, Stella & Dot Celestial Choker and The Wishing Necklace)

LOFT Skinny Pants. I looked high and low for a pair of black dress pants that didn’t make me look and feel frumpy, and LOFT nailed it with these. They are incredibly flattering and fit slim to the body, following the line of the leg, without being a body-con fit like some ponte pants I’ve owned. In other words, they won’t be confused with jeans or leggings. The material is dressy enough dinner out or even a cocktail party if you add a sequined top, but they’re also appropriate for church or the office. I also love that they have the side zip, so the front is nice and smooth and doesn’t add any bulk like dress pants that hook in the front. Sizes are getting depleted, but there are a few left, and they’re currently 60% off. They also come in tall and petite, although I can’t see how to link to those so maybe they’re gone.

Best Accessory Purchases of 2016

Kate Spade Bracelet Watch. I purchased this watch last winter, and I wear it every day. I love how it’s delicate enough for dress-up but practical enough for casual everyday wear, and I can wear it with gold or silver jewelry because it has both.

Similar Faux Double Stud Pearl Earrings. I wanted a large stud that shows under my dark hair

Dalton Pendant. This is another workhouse in my accessory wardrobe. It looks good with almost anything. (also shown: Splendid Draped Waffle Knit Thermal Hoodie in black and Moon & Lola Dalton Pendant)

Ray-Ban Aviators. I purchased these after I did a campaign with Ray-Ban, and I love them. (The hexagonal lenses were fun, but I prefer these for daily wear because they’re a more classic look.) I’ve taken to wearing them almost every day. I still love my Maui Jims, and I still wear those occasionally, but the aviators are my current crush.

Pale Pink and White for Winter

Best Coat Purchase of 2016

Ralph Lauren Reefer Coat. I usually lean towards black and grey when it comes to winter coats, or if I’m feeling sassy, maybe red. Camel has never been on my radar, but I was inspired by Gilmore Girls (doesn’t Lorelai have the BEST coat wardrobe!?!) and I picked up this camel reefer coat on the Nordstrom Anniversary Sale. I LOVE IT. I was surprised how I liked it with my dark hair and complexion. I usually think of camel for blondes, but it works well for us brunettes too (thank you, Gilmore Girls! I would have never tried it if I hadn’t seen how nice it looked on Lorelai.) Also shown: Moonbow Sunnies c/o Maui Jim and Similar Shoulder Bag (another purchase I would make again!) My boots, sweater, and scarf are discontinued.

Best Beauty Purchases of 2016

T3 Curling Wand. I put this on my birthday list after I tried curling my hair with several drugstore-quality curling wants with no luck. Other bloggers I read rave about it, but I was skeptical and afraid to invest, but I’m so glad we did. It works great, and I use it a lot. I’m still planning a hair tutorial. Sit tight!!

T3 curling wand

Sigma Beauty F80 Flat Kabuki™ Brush. This was another blogger recommendation (I am no beauty guru, and almost all of my beauty products have been discovered because they were recommendations on fashion blogs I frequent) and I am so glad I splurged. This brush is fabulous for applying foundation, and I know it will last for years. I just ordered the duster brush (my old Mary Kay one actually broke last week) and I am excited to add another Sigma makeup brush to my growing collection because they are such great brushes.

Sigma Beauty F80 Flat Kabuki™ Brush

Sigma Brush Cleaning Mat. Are you sensing a pattern here? I am loving Sigma products!!! I used to avoid cleaning my makeup brushes because it seemed like such a chore, but it’s a breeze with this cleaning mat. I just use Dawn dishwashing soap. (Yes, both the mat AND the Dawn are blogger recommendations!)

Sigma Brush Cleaning Mat

Rodan + Fields Lash Boost. (Full disclosure: I’m a R+F rep, and I’m linking to my site.) This stuff is seriously amazing. I was a skeptic and didn’t take a before picture because I assumed I wouldn’t be able to tell a noticeable difference. I was so wrong. My eyelashes are so long now, people ask me all the time if they’re fake, and they don’t believe me when I say they’re mine. It’s pricey, but I’ve had it for a few months and I’m still on my first tube. Plus, I only use it every other night now, because I don’t want my lashes to get any longer. #truestory #crazyiknow

Urban Decay Naked Palette. This is the best eye shadow I’ve ever worn. It has so many great colors, and it goes on smoothly, lasts all day, and has so much pigment, you don’t need to apply much at all. I bought it last February, and I use it almost every day, and it looks like it’s hardly been used. I expect it will last for years, and it’s the only eye shadow I need. I have two other palettes, but this is the only one I use. (Eye shadow tutorial coming soon! I promise!)

Urban Decay Naked Smoky Palette

Miscellaneous

Chantelle Intimates Underwire Sports Bra. This may seem like a weird one, but this is The Best sports bra I’ve ever owned. It’s supportive, comfortable, and provides a flattering shape, plus you can hook the J-hook in the back and convert it to a racerback for more support, and to accommodate racerback tops. It does go on sale from time to time, so keep an eye on it.

Delsey Chatelet luggage. When I realized how much I was going to be traveling last year and what a horrid state my old suitcases were in, I invested in a couple pieces of this Delsey luggage, and I love it. It’s such good quality (at least better than anything I’ve ever owned) and it looks smart too. My black has been discontinued, but the brown is nice too. I have a 24″ and a 28″ and I have used both a ton this year. (also shown: Packable Down Jacket Options, DL1961 Emma Legging Jeans & Padded Tote with padded laptop sleeve)

I hope you found this fun and informative. And by way of disclaimer, I realize some see these products adding up and it seems excessive, but always keep in mind that this is my job — scouting out the best products, trying new styles, and sharing them with you. While I definitely have fun with it, my goal is to be a resource, not show off what all I have. I hope it never looks that way.

Also, this post contains compensated affiliate links, which help support this site and keep it running. It also allows me to do this as a full-time job. As always, I appreciate your support!

  1. Hi Jo-lynne,
Great post! You have an excellent eye for fashion. I bought the Lucky booties early in the season and they have proven to be a great purchase. Very versatile. I had some Christmas money and I invested in the Tory Burch Miller flip flops. They are sitting in my closet, begging to be worn. I feel a little guilty about the $$ though, but once it warms up, I think I’ll wear them all the time. Question, what is the cute, tank sleeve dress yiu are wearing in the photo?

    1. You really WILL wear them all the time. You will totally get your money’s worth. If you got the patent leather, they will hold up so well, you won’t believe it. Mine look like new and I wore them constantly last summer. I have white leather from a few years ago that I still wear, but that leather didn’t hold up as well. It looks dirty on the footbed (they ARE white, after all) and the have a couple dings in the leather. But the patent ones are amazing. I even wear them to the pool and the beach. 🙂

      1. White on the footbed does require some maintenance. I found a little dab of Dawn rubbed on will lift most of it. Wipe clean with paper towel or damp cloth.

    2. That swing dress was from Gap. It’s no longer available, but that style should be easy to find once spring and summer rolls around. 🙂 I know Nordstrom had some like that too.

  2. Good morning! I just want to say that I so much enjoy your blog everyday! You give us great ideas for styling and do the research for us. Thank you for helping me to look “stylish” too. Have a blessed weekend and enjoy your babies – they grow up too fast.

  3. Thanks for the post. As usual I’m so tempted to click and purchase but I’m trying not to buy anything the rest of winter (January, at least). I splurged on a couple items for myself right after Christmas. One was the Lash Boost. I’m so glad to hear it works! I did take a before picture (although not very good) so I will be able to compare soon. I just started it Monday of this week. Fingers crossed!

    1. Oooh, I can’t wait to hear how you like the Lash Boost. Just keep notes of the things that caught your eye, and when your spending freeze is up, reassess. Many of the things in this post aren’t being discontinued anytime soon, or something similar will appear. 🙂

I’ve actually started doing that for 2017 — I’m keeping an ongoing list of what I might want to purchase down the road, but don’t want to spend the $ on right now. Then when there’s a Nordstrom Triple Points event, or I get a big paycheck, I can go through the list and make (hopefully) smart choices. 🙂

  4. How in the world can you afford all of these products? Do you get a discount for Nordstrom? I love good quality clothing and shoes, but i couldn’t imagine buying all the items that you do. Do you think you will do some affordable pieces for the average woman. We make good money, but my husband would kill me if I spent what you do on clothing. Don’t get me wrong..I love everything you purchase. I dream about buying what you have. However, it just makes me want it more. Therefore, if this is a high end blog I am going to unsubscribe ..Just wondering if you will be doing things that are affordable soon.

    1. Hi Kathy, I try to show a variety of products and price points, but when it comes down to choosing my best buys of the year, many are in a higher price range because those are the type of things I wear/use over and over and over for many years. The price per wear/use averages out, but it can seem overwhelming when they’re listed all out.

I actually added a disclaimer at the end of this post because I realized it might seem excessive if you add it up, but please remember, this is my job. I try more new things in a year than the average person because that’s what keeps this blog rolling. I explained more about how my job (and this blog) works in my Q&A a few weeks ago: https://jolynneshane.com/end-of-year-qa-part-1.html (no discounts from Nordstrom, unfortunately 😉 )

Affordable and “high end blog” are both relative terms, so I’m not sure how to answer that question. I try to be a resource to my audience and represent a variety of price points. I’ve styled everything from $20 Lee Jeans to $230 AG, but at the end of the day, this is a personal style blog, so my budget and priorities will ultimately prevail. I can’t help but be most enthusiastic about the things I truly love and use.

I stand behind all of these product recommendations, but the “average person” may not purchase them all in one year. The goal here is to be a general resource so people might pick and choose a few things that make sense for their lifestyle/budget, but not to expect everyone to go out and purchase everything in the post.

I follow fashion blogs where the average handbag is $2500 and others where it might be $100. I can get good outfit ideas from all of them, and then I make them work for my budget. A lot of my readers do the same.

If you hang around, I think you’ll see that there are lots of ideas here that can be adapted for any budget. However, I would never want to be the cause of someone’s angst and discontent, so if unsubscribing makes the most sense for you, feel free to so. It won’t hurt my feelings. There are lot of blogs out there, and I hope you find one that resonates with you. 🙂

  5. I am finally getting your emails in my inbox, and I don’t have to hunt for them in my spam a folder….so, thank you!! :). This was a great post and very helpful. Thank you so much! Enjoy your weekend!

  6. I love this post and all your favorites! I ordered the scuba pants after reading your post on them and can’t wait for them to come in. Most of the casual business black pants I have in my closet do have that frump factor. Thanks for sharing your fashion; looking forward to your makeup video!

  7. I love this post Great job! It’s so funny my husband and I brought Olive Garden home last night . I love their soup this time of year. We also spent the evening watching The Crown. I learned a lot and went to bed to late LoL I love your post and realize you bought these items over a two-year period. Having just a few really nice items that last cost a little more but works out in the long run. Sometimes I get the idea from you and buy my items else where for example a long black cardigan I purchased at Walmart called Faded glory for $12 and duplicated the look ???? Gilmore girls is my favorite!!! I have gotten ideas from the show and duplicated them as well. It’s just so much fun!!!

    1. Rhonda, I do the same! I realize I can have the same look but spend less money. If I want a good quality that will last a long time I don’t hesitate to spend more but for everyday I go the less expensive route.

    2. Yes, we all have to make our own decisions about when to splurge and when to save. 🙂 I just hope the info I provide helps. I haven’t had Olive Garden in ages. That sounds so good!

  8. Another fun post! And I have never thought that you come across as showing off at all. I have purchased a few of theses items and am not disappointed!

  9. Love this post! All the products are wonderful. You have such good taste and I enjoy seeing the things you love. I am surprised you said you were 5’5. You photograph much taller! Thanks again!

      1. I wanted to buy the Loft Scuba pants but they don’t seem to have them in tall anymore. I just noticed you said you had long limbs. Can I ask what your inseam is?

  10. Thanks, Jo-Lynne! I followed your blog all year so it is fun to see which things turned out to be ones you know you’ll reach for and would buy again. I am looking forward to your videos; I really liked the Trunk Club one a lot. I got some dl1961 jeans at your recommendation and am almost ready to splurge on the lash boost- see? Your advice matters!
I hope you have a great weekend!

  11. Thank you… I’m getting quiet an education reading your blog every day. I had no idea that there was so much ‘out there’ and the cost of things today. Have been hibernating for some time!

  12. Jo-Lynne, your blog is amazing and please don’t change a thing! Without you i never would’ve bought my gorgeous Frye boots or premium denim AG. These “investment pieces” are so well made and will last a long time. The Sam E nude ballet flats are another fave. Before I started following you, I bought cheaper clothing that only lasted a season and my closet was full of junk. Now i have quality clothing that feels good and wears so well. You often highlight less expensive tops and accessories on sale which are fun to add to my core wardrobe. Also, i can’t say enough good things about Nordstrom and their free shipping and returns! I live on the Oregon coast about an hour and a half from Portland and online shopping is my salvation.

Anyway, thank you so much for doing exactly what you do. You’ve made me a classy dressed Grammie!

        1. Thanks! I was going to consider purchasing this, but almost 20 pounds just for the suitcase isn’t going to work for me. For what I need it for, I will probably stick to soft-sided.

          1. I am in LOVE with this case but had to purchase the Delsey Bastille because it only weighs 9.4 lbs. I was looking for something ultra light weight.

          2. Yeah, I tend to overpack a bit, and since I will be having a formal wedding gown in it, the less the suitcase weighs, the better!

          1. I checked another site and it has the weight listed at 12.6 lbs. That sounds much better!!! I may have to exchange my Bastille. I LOVE the look of this Chatelet case!!!!!

  13. This is my favorite post of the year! Loved all these pieces! I was able to find a LBD from WHBM similar to the T Tahari that is perfect for me! And the Tory Burch sandals are worth every penny- I have had mine for 4 years. I love all the outfit ideas and recreating them for me.
My favorite purchase was this super soft swing coat fromm Patagonia (and on sale!) and a $12 plaid scarf from Amazon. On the verge of 40 and a SAHM, I am finding myself buying more cozy things that are still classy. https://www.patagonia.com/product/womens-better-sweater-swing-jacket/25836.html?dwvar_25836_color=BLK&cgid=#q=swing&lang=en_US&start=1

  14. It’s so nice to be getting your posts in my inbox again! Thanks for going to whatever lengths to make it work. My husband and I thoroughly enjoy The Crown. Well, we enjoyed watching it together anyhow. I loved it, but my husband may have hung in there for my sake! He loves history, but I’m not sure how much he really enjoys the British monarchy. Anyhoo! I loved it and need more! I’m looking forward to watching Victoria on PBS starting next Sunday!

  15. Loved this post. You don’t come across as bragging at all. I am on a tight budget but I love seeing what you are buying. I did get two pairs of Wit & Wisdom jeans in the past few months and they are by far my best purchases of the year. I love them. We recently paid off all of our debt and I am hoping soon to a little more money for premium denim, but in the meantime the Wit & Wisdom are awesome and I never would have known about them without your blog. Thanks so much!

  16. I know you have to purchase a lot of clothing in order to do a fashion blog, otherwise we would get bored with the same old, same old. And, I don’t think you are the bragging type. You are far too sweet.
I bought some lash extender (expensive) and it irritates my eyes so they are swollen in the morning. Did you find any side effects of the Roden + Fields Lash Boost?

    1. Yes, you are right. I tried last January to live with a capsule wardrobe and blog about it, and it was boring – for me and for my audience. 🙂 I actually enjoyed living with it, but the blogging part of it was a bore. LOL!!!

So yes, when I started using Lash Boost, I noticed some redness and irritation. I almost stopped using it, but I stuck it out, and now it doesn’t bother me at all. That said, if you are concerned, return it. It shouldn’t be a cause of stress. 🙂

      1. I’ll try it again and stick with it for a longer period to see if the irritation stops. I would love to have long lashes. Thank you for your quick response.

        1. Yeah, I hate to tell anyone to continue using a product that causes irritation, but I did find that it stopped bothering me after a while. I did go to every other day for a bit. Maybe try that.

  17. Hi, this is a great recap! I never think you are bragging and have always understood that while this is your job it’s your personal wardrobe too. You research for us readers and will ultimately buy/keep what are your favorites. You have given so many great ideas and it’s led me to similar purchases and outfit ideas to put together with what I already have, or buy one piece to tie things together. I really enjoy your emails and never had trouble getting them, but I like the new format. The font is bigger on my phone than it was before so very easy to read. Keep doing what you do! I look forward to your emails every day! #freezinginwesternpatoday

  18. I agree with everyone else and absolutely loved this post as well!!! Looking forward to the videos! I’m thinking about trying the lash booster:)

  19. I LOVED this post! And it couldn’t have come at a better time. I’m looking for a comfortable pair of ballet flats and a LBD for an upcoming trip. I’m going to order the Felicia flats and the dress from this post, but first, could you tell me if they both ran true to size for you? There were a few comments on each one that they ran a bit large. I’m in between sizes on both dresses and shoes, so I’d like your opinion.

Thank you so much for all of the work you put into the blog! It’s the only one that I read every day. You have a refreshing way about your writing (it never, ever feels like you’re bragging!), and we have similar styles. I’m in the “less is more” mindset when it comes to clothes nowadays 🙂 so I enjoy seeing classic pieces that are worth a bit more of an investment without actually buying or trying on all of them! 🙂

We loved The Crown too. I say “loved” because my husband and I binge watched all of it, and now I’m just sad there aren’t more. 🙂

    1. We finished The Crown last night. It’s pretty melodramatic, but I admit, I’m hooked. I can’t wait till the next season comes out!

The Felicia Flats run true to size. I wear my usual 8.5 and they fit perfectly. If ANYTHING I have had people suggest they run a bit small, but if they feel tight at first, they will stretch out.

The dress, however, runs a bit small. I typically wear a 6 or 8 in a dress, and I have the 8, and it’s perfect, but I wouldn’t want to try to fit in it if I gain 5 pounds. Bloomingdales does offer free returns, so you can always order 2 and return the one that doesn’t work. I hope that helps!

  20. Thank you for all your ideas. I think I might try the Urban Decay eyeshadows on your recommendation. I have the Anti Aging eye primer from them and it makes a big difference in how long my eyeliner and eyeshadow last.

I, too, am really enjoying the Crown and it has prompted me to do a little research to ascertain if it is historically accurate – some debate on that. But it is entertaining!

  21. Hi Jolynne! I have enjoyed your blog since discovering it this past fall. And I have been stalking the Splendid thermal hoodie long cardigan. I know you have two, but one will be in my closet. Can you help me decide whether black, gray, or swan would be a more “put-together” choice for most situations? This is where I choke. I am 5″4″ and always think that the lighter color might chop me in half visually. But long black top and black bottoms seems so heavy. I WANT one. Your thoughts?

    1. Hey Ellen, I would say it depends on your coloring and what color families you wear most often. I tend to wear Swan mostly in spring/summer with lighter denim, and the Black more in the fall/winter with darker color palettes, but I think Swan is my favorite. The Shadow is probably the most “all year round color” of the 3.

I don’t know that a lighter color would chop you in half – especially the way this one is cut, it is actually quite elongating. I guess I usually wear the Swan with shorts and with lighter denim, or even white. Then it wouldn’t cut you in half b/c the lower color would be lighter too. Does that help at all?

  22. You have an inspiring and well-done blog here! I’m a discount shopper and have managed to put together some great outfits using the inspiration I get here and I do it all on my own budget. That’s the fun part! Thank you! I look forward to reading you every morning over coffee!

  23. I love your blog! Most fashion blogs out there are 20 somethings and I can relate so much more to you! (I’m 40!) I love this post so much! I noticed you mentioned you don’t normally buy duplicates. I have noticed I buy duplicates thinking I love one so much I’ll wear both all the time and I actually don’t. What’s your reason for this!? Just curious, I need to stop doing that so much!

    1. I don’t think there is anything wrong with buying duplicates, and I make exceptions for things like tank tops and basic t-shirts, but I am trying to curate a closet with fewer pieces and more variety, so to have two of the same sweater (for example) doesn’t really help me achieve that end. That said, I make exceptions for some things (like the Splendid cardigan) because I love them so much, and I know I’ll get a lot of use out of both. In this case, particularly, I wear one mostly in the spring/summer and the other mostly in the fall/winter, but I do keep both in my closet all year round. 🙂

  24. Hi Jo-Lynne,

I really enjoy all your posts. I want to invest in a pair of Tory Burch flip flops but can’t decide on which color! What color are you wearing in your post? Thanks!

  25. Hi! I loved this post and found it extremely helpful. Sometimes items you show are more than I want to spend but I try to find something similar in the price point I’m looking for. I asked for the splendid thermal hoodie for Christmas in the Swan color based on your recommendation. I love it and can’t wait to wear it!! Thanks for all your posts! I find them extremely helpful when putting outfits together!! Looking forward to 2017 with you!

  26. Love the Tory Burch Miller flip flops! I bought them after seeing you wear them this past spring. So good! But my favorite purse also bought after seeing it on your blog was the Rebecca Minkoff Regan Tote in the tobacco color. My go to everyday bag!!

  27. Hi Jo-Lynne – LOVE your blog/emails. Keep up the good work. Like most of the ladies here I use you for inspiration and decide if I want to spend the money or wait for sales, or shop the look at a lower price. I do have a question about the lash product. I have been blessed with long lashes, but would like to thicken up my lashes. Is there a product that you would recommend for that? I also wear glasses all the time – not sure if that would make a difference. Thanks again!

  28. This post is great. I really appreciate all the detail you provide us! You definitely inspire me to try to dress better (especially for work). I don’t mind what you spend. As I’ve gotten older and make more money, I prefer better quality clothing and while I try to get things on sale, I will pay full price for something I must have. Keep up the good work for 2017. I need your continued inspiration!

  29. The cashmere sweater from Bloomies is marked down to $39 — I just picked up another one. I can’t resist cashmere.
