Happy Monday, friends! Today I’m taking a break from fashion to talk about my current skincare routine and some new skincare products I’ve been testing out.
As I’m getting older, I’m trying to be more consistent with skincare, especially with doing a full skincare routine morning and night. I used to just rinse my face and apply a daytime moisturizer before doing my makeup in the mornings, but now I’m taking the time to do a full skincare routine, and my makeup goes on better and looks better throughout the day.
Plus, I figure if I want to do all I can to fight the signs of aging, I should be letting my products work for me during the day as well as at night. It only makes sense, right??
I’ve also been experimenting with serums and treatment lotions, and I can really tell a difference in my skin’s tone and texture. It takes a little extra time, but the results are worth it.
One really cool part of my job is getting to test out a lot of different skincare products, and I’ve even had the opportunity to meet some of the brilliant people behind the brands I use and love. One of those people is Colleen Rothschild.
I met Ms. Rothschild a few years ago at a blogging conference, and I was incredibly impressed by her story as well as how gracious and down to earth she was to talk to. She took her years of experience in the beauty industry and started her own line of sensory-rich luxury skincare products that are designed to work in harmony with each other as a woman’s skincare needs evolve.
I’ve never tried any of her products that I didn’t like, but I do have a few favorites. Her Radiant Cleansing Balm routinely makes my list of holy grail beauty products, and it makes a fabulous gift as well. I also find myself going back to her Retinol Supreme Night Oil time and time again… you can even see that in the picture below. The night oil is the pink oil that is almost gone.
I was recently invited to test out a few of her newer products, and I was thrilled to add some of her serums and treatment products to my collection. One of those products is her Retinol Supreme Eye Serum.
I have issues with bags under my eyes, so I can use all the help in that area that I can get! This product combines retinol and vitamin C to help revitalize the skin around the eyes, and I notice that my eye area stays hydrated overnight better when I use the serum than when I don’t.
I apply this product all around my eyes with my ring fingers, very lightly, and let it soak in for a few minutes before applying her Complete Eye Cream, and I’ve been doing this morning and night.
I think my favorite of the new products I’m trying is the Vitamin C Treatment Complex. I have a lot of sun damage from years of being careless with sun protection, and just this year I started noticing sun spots and areas of excess pigmentation appearing on my face. UGH!!! This product is designed to reduce the appearance of hyper-pigmentation and stimulate collagen production, so I’m hoping I’ll notice an improvement as I continue to use it, but I already love the immediate results it provides.
Even if my skin is still a bit rough and dry after washing, this complex makes it so incredibly soft and dewy, it’s hard to even describe. It says to let it soak in for a minute before applying a moisturizer, so I do that, and when I come back to put my moisturizer on, my skin feels moist and hydrated to the touch. It’s truly unlike any other serum I’ve tried.
I’ve been using this Vitamin C Treatment Complex before my moisturizer at night, and when I wake up in the morning, my skin still looks and feels like it did after applying the products the night before — hydrated and soft and freshly moisturized. It’s amazing how it lasts overnight, and I can only hope that means those antioxidants are hard at work all night long.
In the mornings, I’ve been using the Age Renewal Super Serum because it’s a little lighter than the Vitamin C Treatment, so I like it best for daytime under my makeup. It’s designed to fight dehydration and fine lines and other signs of aging, plus it has an amazing light, fresh scent that I love. #yesplease
At night, I go for one of the oils after the treatment complex — either the Retinol Supreme Night Oil or the Face Oil N°9 — because they leave my face feeling a little too oily for makeup application. I love them at night, though. I have extremely dry skin in the wintertime, but I don’t have any issues with flaky skin when I’m using one of these oils at night.
In the mornings, I apply the Sheer Renewal Cream after the serum because it’s an oil-free product that goes on with a weightless application. It’s also supposed to help minimize the appearance of lines and wrinkles, and the light, powder finish leaves my skin with the perfect canvas for applying my makeup. In her video on the website, Ms. Rothschild even says it doubles as a makeup primer.
Another product I’m trying that I know I’m going to be buying when it runs out is her Restorative Hand Cream. My hands are perpetually dry, but they can get really bad in the wintertime. This cream is thick and rich and definitely keeps my hands moisturized long after it soaks in, but I also like how it rubs in without leaving a greasy residue like some rich hand creams do.
And finally, I didn’t get to photograph this because it just arrived on Saturday, but I’m also loving her newest product — this Matcha Tea Treatment Toner that comes with cotton pads for application. I’ve known for a while that I’m missing a toner in my skincare routine, but I’ve been too lazy to order a new one, and then this arrived on my doorstep on Saturday. *cue angels singing*
This toner helps detox the skin and minimize the look of pores, plus it reduces the appearance of redness AND helps prevent future breakouts. Beyond all that, it smells divine.
One reason I love the Colleen Rothschild skincare line so much is she has not only created products that work, but that smell amazing. It’s like visiting a spa in your very own bathroom every time you wash your face.
Best of all, Colleen Rothschild products are all formulated without parabens, sulfates, phthalates, triclosan, formaldehyde, PABA, toluene, or benzene. I know a lot of you are really conscientious about using products without those ingredients, so you can rest assured when using these products.
Prices are in line with other luxury skincare products, and she does run frequent sales and promotions. I often share those in my weekly newsletter as well as on my social media networks when I see them pop up.
I’m going to leave you with one last skincare tip. I apply all of my skincare products right down into my neck and chest, and anything that’s left, I rub into the top of my hands.
Our hands and necks are usually the first places to show our age, and there aren’t really any cosmetic procedures to fix them once the damage is done. I’m already seeing some neck wrinkles and crepey skin on my hands, so I’m doing all I can to slow down the aging process by taking good care of those areas. I only wish I’d started sooner!
