My Daily Looks {July Edition}

Hello Monday! I hope you all had a nice weekend. Today I’m rounding up my outfits from the past several weeks.

I’ll make all the usual disclaimers — my lifestyle is quite casual, and I have no problem repeating outfits or wearing the same item several times a week. I always feel like these posts get a bit redundant, but that’s real life for me. I tried to remember to make sizing notes, but if I forgot anything, feel free to ask.

My Daily Looks {July Edition}

I’m afraid I don’t remember where I wore this first look, but that will be true for a lot of these pictures, since some are from quite a while ago. I’m going to guess I was headed to the mall or an appointment since I had on jewelry.

The Paige tee is old; it was a splurgy purchase several years ago that I continue to reach for quite often. I love the shape of the neckline, and the linen material makes it a little nicer than a typical stripe tee. Also the necklace was my birthday gift from my mom, and I adore it!

striped v-neck (old, similar here) // Rag & Bone Cate skinnies (size down if in between; similar for less) // TB Millers // Lagos necklace // Yurman link bracelet

I remember wearing this next outfit on a rainy day. I love the juxtaposition of long sleeves with shorts in cooler summer weather.

star sweatshirt (size small) // similar white shorts // Veja sneakers (more sizes here)

This next outfit is one I wore to church and out to lunch afterwards. This is my favorite dress purchase from the summer. It’s so super flattering; even when I’m feeling a little squishy in the middle, it seems to camouflage all that and still give me a nice shape.

Unfortunately it sold out and there’s nothing else quite like it, although this navy dress from the 1901 line looks like it would be really nice on.

Another casual day at home…

LOFT stripe hoodie (size small) // similar jean shorts // TB Millers

I think I wore this to the mall. Love this side tie tee; it’s so cute on, and it comes in a bunch of colors. It’s a bit thin so I make sure to wear a black bra under it. It’s TTS; I have the small.

Bobeau side tie tee (size small) // Kut from the Kloth crop jeans (size down; wearing a 6) // TB Millers // D Yurman pendant

This was the outfit I wore to shop the Nordstrom sale. I kept it really simple because I wanted it to be easy to get off and on in the dressing room.

linen top (size small) // Citizens crop skinny jeans (size up; wearing a 30) // TB Millers // sunnies c/o Maui Jim

I went back to the mall the next day to do some more #NSale shopping, and I wore this.

LOFT flutter sleeve shell  // Rag & Bone Cate skinnies (similar for less) // Nine West slides // Yurman bracelet

I wore this next outfit to church one Sunday. LOVE teal and white for summer.

Boden voop tee // Paige Verdugo (old, similar here) // similar silver sandals // Lagos necklace // Yurman bracelet // Tory Burch watch // sunnies c/o Maui Jim

A casual day at home…

LOFT twist tee (size small) // Gap shorts (size 29) // Nine West slides

We made it to the Maine! This was one of our only cool, rainy days of the trip. Usually we get a few, but we had great weather this year.

star sweatshirt (size small) // similar white shorts // TB Millers

One day we took a day trip to Castine. I ended up tying the cardigan around my waist, but it’s always cooler on the coast, and I was glad I had it when we were eating lunch outside by the water.

Treasure & Bond tank // Madewell cardigan // AG Prima jeans (similar for less) // Nike sneakers (sold out; other color option) // sunnies c/o Maui Jim

The day I wore this was our hottest day in Maine. We were having family over for dinner so I wanted to look cute but was trying to stay cool. This floral blouse from Old Navy was perfect because it’s light and airy. It also comes in a navy polka dot.

This was our 2nd hottest day, and why we chose it for our hike, I do not know. It was pretty rough, both Paul and D were feeling the effects of the heat. I did okay, but I sure wish we’d chosen a nicer day for it.

Treasure & Bond tank // similar shorts // Saucony Guide running sneakers // sunnies c/o Maui Jim

The next day, we took a trip over to Northeast Harbor to the Asticou Inn for lunch. If you’re familiar with Acadia National Park, the Jordan Pond House is an iconic spot to stop for tea and popovers, and their lobster stew is some of the best. We used to go every year, but it got so crowded, we started going to the Asticou instead. They have a similar menu, but it’s off the beaten path and not as crowded.

Bobeau side tie tee // Rag & Bone Cate skinnies (similar for less) // TB Millers // Everlane Day Market Tote

On our way home from Maine, we spent a few days in the Boston area. We stayed in an Airbnb in Ipswich, and our first night there we took the girls over to Crane Beach. I threw on my trusty tank top and distressed jean shorts.

Treasure & Bond tank // similar BlankNYC shorts // TB Millers // sunnies c/o Maui Jim

We drove into Boston one day to do some sightseeing. We did a trolley tour so we could hop on and off, and we walked a portion of the Freedom Trail. I was okay in my Minnie travel flats, but by the end of the day, I was wishing I’d worn my Nikes.

J.Crew linen tee // AG Prima jeans (similar for less) // Tory Burch Minnie travel flats // Jenny Bird earrings // Victoria Emerson wrap bracelet

And this is pretty much what I wore for our ride home, but I didn’t look this cute because we got up at 4am and I didn’t bother with hair or makeup. I also wore a white cardigan to protect from the early morning chill.

Splendid v-neck tee // Rag & Bone Cate skinnies (similar for less) // TB Millers // Everlane Day Market Tote

Back at home, I wore this dress last Sunday to church and then to a bridal shower afterwards.

floral maxi dress (also at Nordstrom; wearing a small) // Stuart Weitzman sandals (similar for less) // Kendra Scott earrings // Stella & Dot cuff // Tory Burch watch // Tory Burch satchel (old)

I threw this on that night to go over and visit with friends on their patio.

grey tie front tank // Joe’s jean shorts // BP. sandals

This was an ordinary weekday at home, catching up on work and driving the kids around, and I believe I also met a friend for coffee that morning.

Gap notch neck tee // Mother Looker skinnies (similar for less) // BP. sandals // diamond bar necklace c/o Helzberg Diamonds

I wore this to go grocery shopping and run errands on Saturday, before our family get together. I’m always cold in the grocery store, so I threw on a cardigan. This cardigan is back in stock, but it did go back to full price. It’s still under $50, and it’s really nice quality — the perfect wear now and later piece. I really like the drapey pockets and the subtle texture in the knit.

Madewell v-neck tee (size medium) // Madewell cardigan (size small) // similar BlankNYC shorts // Nike sneakers (sold out; other color option) // silver teardrop earrings

And I wore this to host our family get-together on Saturday afternoon.

Boden Robyn tee // Joe’s jean shorts // Lucky Brand sandals // brushed gold earrings

Finally, this is what I wore to church yesterday. This floral top is really nice for summer, and it will transition nicely into fall. The wind is making it balloon out a bit, but it has a nice drape.

floral blouse // AG black jeans (similar for less) // similar sandals // necklace // bracelet // watch

And that’s a wrap! I’ll be in and out today, if you have any questions. Have a marvelous Monday!

  1. FYI…I’m part of an online book club that is reading Educated. We will be discussing it on Wednesday, August 28 in the evening. If you’re interested to join, it’s Forever Fierce Book Club on Facebook (and you do have to belong to Forever Fierce Revolution on FB). It’s an interesting way to discuss the book for an hour. Granted you don’t have to join in and read every month, but since you just finished the August book…it’d be convenient. I’m about half way through…

  2. I LOVE everything you wore, you look put together in every casual style, comfortable and classy! Does it take effort for you? Or is it as easy as it looks?

    1. I think once you figure out what looks good on your body type, it’s easier. I dunno, I don’t always feel put together, but I do like all of my clothes and get rid of things when I decide that I don’t, so I think that helps. The mirror selfies help too. Sometimes I think I like something until I see a picture, and then out to the donate pile it goes. 🙂

  3. You look terrific in all your shots. Have you recently lost weight? I realize the camera can fool the eye but you are looking especially nice in all your photos and styles. I really enjoy your blog but it is costing me money as I order more than I use to.   😉

    1. Bless your heart! No, I have not. I’m actually feeling a little fluffy lately. I need to get back on track with real foods and cut back on snacks. But it’s summer, this always happens!

I’m glad you enjoy the blog!

  4. I like the idea of you starting a book club and it could be your new FB live session. I recently thought of joining one or starting one in my neighborhood? I work in a senior community and have a group of book club ladies that meet in the clubhouse once a month. They are so cute and dress trendy so I enjoy having them come in.

  5. Lots of comfy looks!  I love the variety of colors & styles of tops you buy, it makes each outfit even classier!   That dress your wore to the shower is stunning!  I feel like fall is already nipping at our heels, it was really cool this morning – 50!  I had to put the pool heater on early this morning, as I’m not a big fan of a cool pool water! And now the grandkids are spoiled!

  6. I enjoy seeing what you wear everyday. Don’t apologize for repeating items and or being casual. That is real life. I enjoy seeing repeats and casual looks. When I look at all the fashion bloggers I could get discouraged! Who has time to really think about a stunning outfit everyday? Who wants to spend time and money to wear totally different clothes everyday?…

    1. I guess if it’s their job… but it’s mine too and I find that exhausting, lol. Maybe b/c I’m older and bigger than most, and not everything looks good on me. When I find things that do, I want to wear them all the time.

  7. I love Jordan Pond! We must have gotten lucky the 2 times we went last year because it wasn’t busy. I’m adding Asticou Inn to my calendar for next year, just to try it.
Thanks for sharing your looks. I have been culling my closet of t-shirts, finding that so many I try on and then put back in the closet and choose another. My major issue, I’ve realized, is that they are all too long. And I’m 5’7″ 36C size 12, so a Lg shouldn’t be so long. I think the issue is 2 fold, 1) I prefer cotton and cotton blends and they seem to “grow” 2) Retailers are still making most shirts in this longer style. Yesterday I tried on 5 t-shirts with a jean skirt, trying to find one that half the shirt didn’t have to be tucked in on such a hot day.
I can’t be the only person with this problem. Jo-Lynne, I’d love to see a post on tees, long sleeve and short, that aren’t so long.

*I bought the J Crew Navy linen T shown above because it wasn’t too long!

    1. Hi Colleen
Like you, I am 5’7”. Tops are often just too long, especially with skirts. So I often buy tops size Petite Medium.
Depending on the style and brand, this size often works for me.

  8. Loving all your casual outfits! I never seem to grab for denim ( except white) in summer down here in the south but stores and restaurants are always freezing that I should wear them more often. You’ve made them look so cool and chic!
I am part of a book club and we read Educated earlier in the year. It’s a heavy book for sure!! Could go on about lots of things but don’t want to spoil for anyone reading!

  9. I love your style!  As for Book Clubs — I joined one a few months ago and have thoroughly enjoyed it.  Where the Crawdads Sing left me with so much to think about and process.  The book club was the perfect place for that discussion.  The online club mentioned below sounds interesting and timely for you, given you just finished the book.  You have peaked my interest and I’ll be adding Educated to our reading list.

  10. Loved this post!  I have a couple of questions about the button up top from ON.  When you launder it, did you lay it flat to dry?  Also, did it require any ironing?  When we go to the beach at the end of the month, I will be wearing sleeveless tops and shorts since I cannot get in the water.  When I make a return to ON this Wednesday, I may see if they still have that top.  Thanks!  Enjoy your day!

  11. I love seeing your daily outfits!  And I am glad you wear the same outfits.  Repeats and casual looks are real life.  Or at least they are for me!  I love the variety in theses posts.  It gives me inspiration to put different colors together.  I’m shopping my closet these days and I’m able to come up with some new and fun variations on outfits.

  12. That’s real life. We all reach for our favourites. I love that first dress on you. Very flattering!
Book clubs are great. They give you a chance to delve deeper into a book. We don’t all have  the same perspective on a subject.

  13. This is such a refreshing post. I love your style and how graceful you are. You are truly inspiring and such a joy. Enjoy hearing about your travels and just you being you!

  14. You always look so put together! My wardrobe has gone up a notch or two since I’ve been following you 🙂 Educated is on my list to read….I’ve never been a part of a book club but always intend to join one. For a great light-hearted read, I recommend One Day in December by Josie Silver.

  15. Is that the new LV bag that you are carrying? Which one is it? Have you enjoyed it? That colour looks great with your summer outfits.

  16. It’s been so long since I commented.  Love these outfit recaps!  You never fail to give me ideas.  Thanks so much for all your hard work!

  17. Great Post.  So much detail and its nice to see what you wear in a week or so.  Your vacation trip sounded wonderful.  I’m from the West Coast and have never gone to places on the East Coast, but just stopped in New York before getting on another plane to London.  That was years ago.  I was born in Connecticut, but came to the NW when I was 3 yrs. old, so don’t remember a thing.  Ha Ha  Probably good things as I hear the humidity is terrible. 🙂 LOL  I’m hoping once my husband retires we can do some travels your way.

  18. You look great in everything but I especially like the dress you wore to the shower and the yellow ONavy top.

  19. Love these “what I wore” posts – you look great as always. A question for you. I’m wanting new jeans (my low rise jeans, while nice, now drive me crazy). Despite seeing more straight and wider leg jeans out there, I still prefer a skinnier jean on me. At the same time, I don’t want something that’s too skinny. Every time you post a picture with those Citizens jeans (I think it’s all the same pair), I think they are exactly what I’m looking for. Are they a slightly wider leg, or is that a camera illusion, or are your legs just skinnier enough that they look less skinny on you? Are there brands that are less skinny? Or is it just a style thing (like maybe cigarette instead of skinny)? I have a really old pair of BR black jeans that is exactly what I have in my head, but, well, they’re really old! Thanks in advance and have a great day.

    1. I feel the same way – I don’t think I can get on board with the straight trend, but some skinnies are made a little wider in the calf area so they hang more straight from the knee, without being straight all the way down from the hips. It’s definitely better for those of us with wider hips and thinner legs. Cigarette leg is basically that, so if you see that in the title, it may be a good option. I look at the leg opening when comparing jeans. So the AG Prima that I got during the #NSale, for example, has a 12″ leg opening at the ankle, whereas skinnies that fit tight right down to the ankle usually have a 10″ leg opening or thereabouts. Here are some at Nordstrom Rack – https://shopstyle.it/l/6Hgj

      1. Thanks! I have been thinking perhaps leg opening is key, and have been focusing on that of late. And thank you for sending me Nordstrom Rack links (you know me well, lol). What about the Citizens jeans? I recognize I can’t find them discounted (yes, it kills me), but I think I’d pay to get exactly what I’m looking for, since I wear jeans every day (I work from home). How have they compared with the AG jeans?

        1. Oh, I forgot your Q about the Citizens. So their Rocket Crop skinnies are more of a skinny, but kind of in between the AG legging jeans and the Prima. They have a 10 3/4″ leg opening. Some are 11″ and some are 10 1/4″ – https://shopstyle.it/l/6HkA.

Quality and price wise, they’re very comparable to AG. I did size up in mine – I have the size 30.

I haven’t seen the Rocket Crop on Off Fifth or N. Rack for some reason. Shopbop runs sales occasionally – that would be the best time to get them.

  20. You look so nice even in the most basic outfits. Have you done a post on styling solid colored tee shirts (or something like that)? I have so many and they seem boring when I wear them.
