My Daily Looks: What I Wore

True confession: I always feel like these posts are soooo boring, and especially now that autumn weather is here to stay. I just want to live in pullover sweaters and blue jeans all fall and winter.

But this feature is supposed to be real life, so here it is . . . what I really wore over the past couple of weeks.

My Daily Looks: What I Wore Lately

This first look was a weekday, and I think I spent most of it at home. I don’t usually wash my hair and do makeup when I’m just at home all day, but every once in a while, I get motivated. (I probably ran that morning.)

I realize this outfit is super simple, and but there’s something about the combination of the rust sweater with light wash jeans and camel suede shoes that is really pleasing to the eye. FYI, these Tory Burch suede flats are 20% off at Bloomingdale’s!

step hem pullover: Vince (sold out; sorta similar) // jeans: AG Prima (option) // suede ballet flats: Tory Burch (on sale!) // earrings: Lucky Brand

SALE ALERT >> Take 20% off $100-$249, 25% off $250-$499 or 30% off $500 or more on items labeled “TAKE UP TO 30% OFF WITH CODE: SAVEMORE” at Bloomingdale’s.

As I said . . . a pullover and jeans is my jam. I wore this next outfit to the dentist on a chilly, rainy Wednesday.

Both the rust sweater above, and this navy hooded sweater were #NSale purchases and are no longer available, so I linked similar styles.

cashmere hoodie: Vince (sold out; similar for less) // raw hem skinnies: Rag & Bone (similar for less) // leather sneakers: Veja // tote: Everlane // earrings: Lucky Brand

I wore this next look to Bible study on a Thursday and then to the nail salon afterwards. I remember specifically trying NOT to reach for another sweater. 😂

This Free People snap sleeve tee is perfect for this time of year, and I was really proud of myself for jazzing it up with this statement necklace. It’s always my natural inclination to go with more subtle jewelry, but in this case, I think this necklace really makes the outfit. Well, that and the python print boots.

snap sleeve tee: Free People // jeans: AG Prima (option) // snake print booties: Vince Camuto (sold out; similar) // tote: Everlane // necklace: Lucky Brand // bracelet: Lucky Brand

This next look is one I actually wore two days in a row — the Friday and Saturday we were in Wilmington for a family wedding. (That seems like a month ago, but I guess it was only a week and a half!)

I brought a graphic tee to wear home on Saturday, but I ended up just putting this same outfit back on again because they hosted a nice breakfast that morning and I wanted to look a bit nicer than a t-shirt.

(And I really needed to clean my iPhone camera lenses.)

floral blouse: LOFT // cardigan: Madewell (sold out; similar) // raw hem skinnies: Rag & Bone (similar for less) // suede ballet flats: Tory Burch

And of course, this is what I wore to the wedding.

dress // shoes (option) // bag // earrings // bracelet // wrap // nails

The next day was Sunday, and I wore this to church.

That night, I changed shoes to go over to a friend’s house for a small birthday celebration . . . and evidently I also cleaned my camera that afternoon. I really need to start checking that before I take my daily selfie!

cardigan: Madewell // tank: Ann Taylor // raw hem skinnies: Rag & Bone (similar for less) // booties: Vince Camuto // suede ballet flats: Tory Burch (on sale!) // layer necklace: Gorjana // earrings: Lucky Brand

So I guess that brings us to last Monday. I must have thrown this on after a photo shoot (judging by the curled hair.)

I actually didn’t keep these jeans, only because I don’t really need them. They’re really good if you want an off-black pair that isn’t as pricey as most premium denim brands.

thermal tunic: Anthro // off-black jeans: Madewell // mules: Sam Edelman (sold out; similar) // tote: Everlane // necklace: Lucky Brand

And then on Tuesday, and I just threw my hair up in a pinch clip after my run. I did shower and put on makeup, though, so there’s that.

v-neck sweater: Everlane // raw hem skinnies: Mother (similar for less) // suede ballet flats: Tory Burch (on sale!) // similar pearl earrings

Wednesday was an ugly, rainy day, and as I recall I didn’t go anywhere or take any pictures.

This is what I wore to Bible study and to meet a friend for lunch last Thursday. Rust and grey is a fun and unexpected pairing, and the snake print mules add an element of interest.

step hem pullover: Vince (sold out; sorta similar) // grey jeans: AG (similar / budget option) // mules: Steve Madden // satchel: R Minkoff // necklace: Yurman (similar for less)

And Friday was another “grace day.”

On Saturday, I went for a walk/run with the dog and then got dressed in this tried and true outfit to go shopping with my daughters.

FYI, my Paige joggers are also 20% off at Bloomies, and if you combine the Tory Burch flats and the pants, you get 25% off because it’s a Buy More, Save More Sale. Unfortunately sizes are limited.

denim jacket: Vince Camuto // grey tee: Splendid // cargo joggers: Paige (on sale; more sizes at Nordstrom) // slip-on sneakers: Vince (similar for less) // necklace: Lucky Brand

And that night, I went out with some girlfriends for dinner. We actually took a proper picture outside for once . . .

Do we like this sweater better front-tucked or untucked?

I feel like the front-tuck is more modern, but the length is perfect so that it doesn’t really need it for me to look balanced.

Also, these boots are GORGEOUS. They’re lined with a suede-like material inside, and they are super comfortable to walk in. They’re 20% off but only larger sizes are left in this color. They also come in a buttery black leather.

sweater: Everlane (similar for less) // skinny jeans: AG Farrah (similar AG Farrah on sale) // boots: Sam Edelman (on sale!) // earrings: Kendra Scott // bracelet: Victoria Emerson c/o

Sunday was church, and it was cooler and rainy. I wore a very similar outfit, but this sweater is more casual (and suuuper cozy.) It’s yet another Vince purchase from the #NSale. 🙈

I realized, as I was looking through these pictures, that it’s mid-October, and it has just now gotten cold enough to start wearing all the cozy sweaters that have been sitting in my closet since July. I really wish they would run that sale the first week of September!

Unfortunately most of what I purchased has sold out, but they will be on repeat all winter long. I’ll try to link some similar (and similar for less) styles when I wear them.

This sweater is more grey than ivory, so I paired it with black jeans and added the snake print mules for pattern and texture. Plus it was rainy, and I realized that I have very few shoes that aren’t suede . . . I guess I need to remedy that!

I didn’t feel like doing my hair again, so I stuck it in a ponytail with this tortoiseshell hair cuff. Sorry, this picture doesn’t QUITE capture it, but it’s a nice way to elevate a basic ponytail.

sweater: Vince (similar / budget option) // black skinnies: AG (sold out; but the Madewell pair is similar) // mules: Steve Madden // satchel: R Minkoff

I dressed cute on Monday to go out to lunch with a friend after my photo shoot, but I’m saving those pictures for tomorrow’s post. And then yesterday was rainy, and I didn’t go anywhere after my workout, so I don’t have any pictures. You can thank me later.

So I guess that’s a wrap! But seriously, I feel like these posts are going to get reeeeally mundane over the next few months. Even when I go to church or out for dinner, I end up wearing a dressier version of my daily uniform.

I’m totally fine with that, but maybe I should make this a monthly feature and pick and choose my favorites, or outfits where mostly everything is in stock. Let me know what you think.

Have a wonderful Wednesday!

  1. Actually, I like these posts and I don’t find them mundane. It’s interesting to see what you wear daily IRL. My lifestyle and dress  is similar to yours so it is refreshing to see your wearable yet stylish outfits.

    1. Ditto on the comments! These are my favorite posts and not boring at all, in fact these are the ones I look forward to. 😄

      Sweater question: untucked

  2. I love these posts. You give me so many ideas for casual work wear. I also love the outfit you wore out for dinner with your women friends. That’s my kind of outfit that I can wear to work, (and I think I can replicate it with what I have in my closet.) I bought a pair of boots similar to these from Target a couple of years ago (thank you, Cyndi Spivey, for the link.) I get at least one compliment on them every time I wear them! As an aside – this morning my husband said I looked very “bloggy” this morning. A new word – gray skinny jeans you had styled awhile back, light gray v-neck Loft sweater, two silver necklaces, bracelet (thank you and Cyndi for introducing me to Victoria Emerson) and gray sneakers (well, rain boots into work, but I changed into the sneakers for work.) You, Cyndi and Kay have really upped my style. Thank you, thank you!

    1. I too enjoy Jolynne’s and Cindy’s blogs. I am not familiar with Kay’s blogs. Do you mind sharing her website address? Thanks

  3. I love these posts so keep them coming! I am currently enrolled in AYW and would love to know what your body type/undertone is.

  4. I really enjoy these posts. Most of my outfits fit this style so it’s nice to get different ideas on how to wear them. I feel like i get in a rut sometimes with wearing certain items and this always give me fresh ideas!

  5. I will be repeating what the others have said already: I really enjoy these posts too! Don’t find them mundane or boring or repetitive at all. You are keeping it real. Most of us live regular lives so its nice to be inspired by others what they do in their regular lives. You give me tips how to elevate my “running around town” look. Oh and thanks for the book recommendation. Finished reading “Where the Crawdads sing”…. Very touching story.

  6. I like your posts about your daily “real life” outfits. I have borrowed your ideas so many times. I bought the striped Madewell cardigan and now I might need to add the Tory Burch flats!!  I also liked your dress from the wedding. It was very elegant. 🙏 for sharing.

  7. Ditto to what others have said – I enjoy these posts. Yes, it’s a sweater and jeans, but you always turn it into a “look” with nice pieces, fun shoes, accessories, etc. It’s not mundane; it’s real life. I too work from home, so I’m casual most days and look to you for ideas. Love a bunch of those looks, including the rust sweater (looks almost pinkish – maybe that’s why it doesn’t fight with your skin tone). A few questions for you. I love those TB suede flats (both pair), but the first ones almost look like the have a greenish cast in your pictures, which I love. They don’t look that way online. I wondered what they were IRL. Also, unrelated to this post, I just purchased the Splendid flight cardi in grey (I have the black one thanks to you and love it). I bought the black in medium (in part because that’s what you said you did), and it’s on the big side for me. I decided to get the grey in small (figured I’d wear it more in the summer because it’s lighter, so on top of shells and whatnot). It’s TINY. Is that your experience with that brand? I am usually a small, sometimes an XS (long torso but small top). The cardigan seems like it’s 2-3 sizes smaller than the black one…

  8. These posts are not mundane! They are real and they are how most of us dress. I love them and really do get something from them so thanks! 🙂

  9. I love these posts! I like to see how you dress casually because that’s how I dress every day. I also learned today that you can wear rust and gray together (never would have thought of that!) and that white sneakers can still be worn in the fall. Thanks for the great ideas!

  10. I am wondering if you ever shop at J. Jill and what your opinion is of this store or if any of your followers shop here?

  11. I actually love these posts!! I don’t find them mundane! I mean, most of us need inspiration for real life and a casual or dressy casual look is probably what most of us are going for most days. Even lots of offices are on the casual side these days. So I say keep it up, it’s fascinating and offers lots of ideas for us to use daily!

  12. Definitely take care of your feet. I was just recovering from tendonitis of the Achilles tendon when I was in Paris in August and I have arthritis in my knees. Between all the cobblestones and all the stairs/steps, I literally limped home from France. It took me a couple of weeks to get back to normal.

  13. These posts are not mundane or boring at all. In  fact I really look forward to seeing what you’ve worn and  laugh at the fact that you wear an outfit two days in a row like me and I’m sure others…I find your posts helpful in fact yesterday I was out running errands and just got tired of rolling all my jeans so I took the pair I had on and cut them out for a slight frayed look!!! Thanks for your suggestions and great style:) I also like the sweater untucked .

  14. I also don’t find these posts boring. Like all your posts, they’re normally great for sourcing pieces and it’s good to see which pieces you ACTUALLY wear and like in real life as it helps me decide what to buy.

  15. No, please continue to show every day even if it’s low stock or a fail. That way we can all tell if we are (ha ha mean (I am) wearing a “FAIL”. I am so happy with  this post because we can see you in actuality!🥰❤️❤️

  16. I will echo everyone else – I love these posts, too.  It is fun to see what you are wearing on a daily basis.  I, too, wear lots of sweaters and jeans, and these posts give me fresh new ideas on colors and accessories.  I hope your foot appointment helps!  I have one problem foot in particular and we are headed to Disneyland in a couple of weeks.  I’m babying it and hope it cooperates!

  17. Ha! I feel the same way. My go to is always jeans. Boring? I guess, but it’s what I’m most comfortable in.
I like the sweater untucked better. It’s the prefect length on you.

  18. I love these posts! It keeps you real, in my eyes. It’s a nice balance to your other posts. Please, don’t stop!

  19. I love these posts and look forward to them! They are not mundane – it keeps it real on what you wear on an everyday basis! You are my favorite blogger as you are so real and down to earth. 🙂
    I like the sweater untucked…..

  20. I love the casual style as I am now a retired teacher.  I mostly have dress and work clothes, so I am looking to update my casual wardrobe.  However, my budget is limited.  Can you find some high rise jeans that are more budget friendly?  Also, I am loving yoga these days and would love to see some cute yoga outfits.  Enjoy your fall, here is the midwest, we are still fighting rain and flooding!

  21. I love posts like this #reallife so please keep them coming! If you’re struggling for content ideas, I’d love a “How To” series…How to roll and cuff a long-sleeved shirt, How to tie a belted trench coat, how to cuff jeans, how to tie scarves, how to fight the frump, how to care for cashmere, etc. you get the picture. I would really benefit from a series like that.

    1. Nancy, I second this idea! I have learned so much about how to level up my outfits from Jo-Lynne, and your “how to” suggestion would help even that much more.

  22. What size do you take in the denim jacket? I normally wear a medium in tops, but not sure what size to order since I’ll want to wear it with sweaters.

  23. I really like the What I Wore because they give me more outfit ideas for casual and super-casual days. Please keep doing them! Also I like the cream sweater untucked much better. Thanks, Jo-Lynne

  24. Maybe when you do these posts you focus on specific things for each one such as the accessories, like the shoes or jewelry or handbags?

  25. I really enjoy these ‘in real life’ posts.  I wear the same things on repeat far more than you, but you give great tips for making the same a little different, which I appreciate…Like you said about the necklace.

  26. Yes!  Keep doing them. I especially like the shoes/boots and accessories. It gives me ideas of what I want to buy and what I can pull out from my closet to get new looks. Thanks!

  27. I lost track of exactly who commented this way: “Your ‘What I Wore’ posts help me figure out different ways to wear what I have in my closet.” In the past, I have shopped too much and bought too many random clothes b/c they were “cute” or a good deal, or just as some retail therapy. I would go into a bursting closet everyday with the same thought, “What can I wear?” Your posts inspire me to put together different combinations. And I’ve gotten great accessorizing ideas, as well.
P.S. After 2 moves in 2018, I have purged a lot of that stuff and am working now with the quality clothes.

  28. Love seeing what you wear in real life so keep them coming. As for your question on the sweater, I like the untucked look.
