My Daily Looks: What I Wore Lately Vol. 6

Happy hump day, friends! It’s time for an another edition of What I Wore Lately.

Every other week on Wednesdays, I post my daily looks. This post is the answer to a question I often get: But what do you really wear?

I like to invest in quality pieces that feel good on, so these price points can be a bit higher than in my regular posts. I don’t ever add up the cost of an outfit. Instead, I make purchasing decisions based on the cost per wear of each item.

Because I usually buy my higher end pieces on sale when they’re being discontinued, the exact items I’m wearing aren’t always available. In that case, I try to link something similar.

Over the years, I’ve realized that I’d rather have fewer nice quality pieces that I love and wear over and over, than a closet full of things I got just because it seemed like a good deal in the moment. That’s a good way to end up with a closet full of clothes and nothing to wear.

Not to say every piece in my closet is an investment piece, but I try to consider my needs and how often I’ll wear an item when purchasing.

If you have a bunch of things in your closet with the tags still on, shoved to the back and forgotten, I highly recommend reading this post: How to Purge Your Closet and Love Your Wardrobe Again.

Then take an inventory of what’s left, and check out my Spring Wardrobe Essentials post and make a list of things you need to add to your closet to make it functional for your current size and lifestyle.

Okay, that was a bit of a detour. Let’s get started!

My Daily Looks: What I Wore Lately

As a reminder, I’m 5’5″ and usually wear a 28 or 29 in jeans and a small in tops. I’ll try to remember to give sizing notes where appropriate. (TTS = True To Size)

This first look is one that I wore to my weekly Bible Study, and then later that afternoon to an eye doctor appointment with my daughter. It was a rainy day, and I was really glad to have my waterproof Aquatalia sock booties.

I picked these up on a deep discount, but they’ve since sold out. This pair is similar, but full price. FYI, Blondo also makes a lot of waterproof booties, and many are on sale right now.

My sweater is was another clearance purchase that I got for a deep discount. It feels soooo nice on; I highly recommend 360Cashmere for quality sweaters. Here’s another option that’s on sale at Verishop.

The next day was Friday, and I wore this to my workout… and then I kept it on all day. I know, that sounds gross, but I don’t sweat much. It’s so cold in the gym, and with my hip injury, we don’t do much cardio. We tend to lift heavy and take longer recovery breaks.

Anyway, Sweaty Betty is my new activewear discovery. I’ve actually worn this outfit all day a few times in the past several weeks.

I’ve never been one to wear activewear around all day, but now that I have some pieces that are more stylish, I don’t mind the look so much, and this way I’m ready to go out for a walk at any time. I’ve been trying to take a break mid-day for a long walk, rather than going out in the morning when it’s so cold.

We went car shopping on Saturday, and I wore a white sweater and jeans with my snake print booties.

These jeans are currently 25% off, and they run TTS. They have a bit more stretch to them than the jeans I normally wear, so they have a very legging-like fit. I find them very comfortable, but you have to like that body-con style.

They have a comfortable 9″ rise, and they’re an inch shorter (27″ inseam) than the skinny jeans I normally wear. I’m liking this length a lot right now. They don’t fall into the back of my booties or require a cuff.

On Sunday, I wanted to wear my bright pick cowl neck sweater to church. I’ve shown it with blue jeans, but this time I paired it with my grey jeans.

I first tried it on with my black suede OTK boots…

I like it, but it seemed more Girls’ Night Out than Church on Sunday, so I switched to snake print mules. It was a chilly day for mules, but I get tired of wearing boots all the time.

This sweater is on trend and cozy and comes in a bunch of colors. It’s also under $100.

I came home from church and changed into some comfies to nap on the couch and watch the Super Bowl.

These jeans are getting big, but they’re so comfortable, I kept them to wear on days like this. (They run true to size; I just lost some weight, which is why they’re getting big.)

I wore this the day we went to get C’s car. I didn’t feel like fixing my hair so I did a quick pony. It was cold and rainy, a perfect day for Sorels.

This sweater is from the Nordstrom Anniversary Sale, and if you’re a regular to these posts, you’ve seen it a bazillion times. It’s on sale at Nordstrom Rack but sizes are picked over.

For some reason, it’s fully stocked at full price on the Nordstrom website. I don’t recommend paying full price, but if you like it, you may want to reach out and see if they’ll price match.

I’m losing track of days and my schedule, but I’m assuming this was another day working from home and running my mom taxi service… although now that C has her own set of wheels, I don’t have to do quite as much of that these days.

I exchanged this sweater for a medium (I originally had the large), and I’m much happier with the fit. I love the colors for this time of year, and these loafers are my new favorite shoes. They are so comfortable!

This is what I wore to the nail salon to get a fresh mani/pedi. I wanted to wear jeans I could easily roll up.

Of course, I wasn’t able to wear these shoes back home, but I had a couple errands to run first.

This is what I wore last week to Bible Study. I thought the combination of oatmeal and grey was kind of fun.

I got this sweater when it went 50% off after the holidays, but I see it’s back to full price now. It is pure luxury — such great quality. But knowing it was already on sale, I would advise waiting for the next one.

I wore this comfy old sweater and jeans to the mall with R on Saturday.

My TB suede Minnie flats are pretty much sold out, but if you’re looking for them on Poshmark or eBay, they’re the Black Cherry color. I love them with winter neutrals!

And this is what I wore to church on Sunday. Everything is old except the coat.

I’ve been wanting to add a black wool coat to my wardrobe for years, but for some reason I could never seem to bite the bullet.

I finally grabbed this one when it went on sale, and I’m so glad I did. It’s a nice value for the price point, and it’s a classic cut that will never go out of style. If you’re looking for a coat like this, I highly recommend it.

I’m wearing the 4, for reference, so definitely size down. The best price is at Lord + Taylor, but sizes are pretty depleted. It’s 30% off at Zappo’s and 25% off at Nordstrom.

I had a photo shoot on Monday, and afterwards I wore this outfit again to run errands and work from home.

This time I went for my taupe Dolce Vita booties. These are very comfortable, with a padded insole, and the lower heel is nice for a change. I tend to have flats or 3+ inch heels in my closet, and I really like this 2-inch height for everyday.

Yesterday, I decided I was sick of all the usual suspects, so I pulled out my white jeans and this cozy striped sweater from LOFT.

I can’t believe this sweater is still fully stocked. It’s so cute and such a good price — just $29.

  1. I love my Naadam sweater too, and I really like the oatmeal with the grey jeans. I don’t think I would’ve thought to put those colors together, but it looks good. I also bought two more Naadam sweaters (actually two different colors of the same style, which I never do), because I loved the ribbed hoodie so much. So so soft!

I need to check out the Everland loafers. I don’t really have any loafers, and when I’ve tried them, I really don’t find them that comfortable (or ballet flats, for that matter), but I kind of like the looks of those, and obviously love a comfortable shoe since I’m on my feet all day.

  2. Great post! I bought the Ralph Lauren Wool Reefer coat for Christmas in the Vicuna color. I LOVE it! Such classic lines, I will wear it for years. I went with my normal size since I wanted to wear sweaters under it. I found it very straight and fitted. Lovely!!
I am here in South Jersey and the sun is shining, hoping for another pretty day!!

    1. Yes, I was wondering if I’d regret the smaller size. I always feel like coats like this make my shoulders look like a linebacker, and I realized I might be buying my coats too big. I hope this one will work over sweaters, but I will probably wear it mostly over thinner pieces.

  3. You look so polished and put together in all the looks. Such an inspiration!

I can relate to your oven fan issue. Per the repairman, mine must have been cracked upon arrival and when I did the first self-cleaning on it, it broke and sounded awful. I was left with a little PTSD from the experience and hold my breath for self-cleaning cycles now but so far so good. I feel like such a brat … truly a first world problem.

    1. Yeah, but it’s so frustrating when you research, make a decision, spend all that money, and it doesn’t work. It just shouldn’t happen. I am hoping the new fan solves our issue. It was so LOUD.

  4. I don’t think you’re complaining at all!!! It’s very reasonable to expect BRAND NEW appliances to work!!! And I’m glad you’re upgrading your kitchen if that’s what you want. You and your husband both work and it’s really not anybody’s business what you spend your money on!! Yes, there are people who are going through tough times. There always will be. Your sharing about something good in your life doesn’t mean you don’t care about people going through bad times. It’s just life. So keep sharing about your clothing and your kitchen and your kids!!! Your readers enjoy it!!!!

    1. Well said Robbin. 🙂 I was going to comment and say same thing and since you already did I’ll just Amen your comment. I love when you are REAL Jo/Lynne. Stuff like the wall oven stuff can stress us out or disappoint but doesn’t mean we aren’t sensitive to others worse life problems. My new refrig and wall oven a year ago didnt fit and going by measurements they should have. :(. We had to pay someone to cut cupboards more. Stressed me. 😬Love your post today.

      1. Ugh, that would be so stressful! Happily, all our appliances have fit okay.

Unfortunately the guy who drew the new design for the desk area didn’t allow QUITE enough space for everything, so the fridge barely opens and hits the wall. There should be a cabinet trim piece between the drink fridge and the wall, which also provides necessary support for the counter. My carpenter didn’t put it in because there was no room, nor did he mention it, and I didn’t know any better.

Fortunately, the counter guy came back that afternoon to take a final measurement, and he saw it. So I had to call the carpenter back, and he came out and added some support pieces around the fridge.

When the counter guys got here, they saw that the support pieces weren’t tall enough, nor were they level with the rest of the cabinet, so they still had to add some extra trim pieces to make space so the counter wasn’t reseting on the drink fridge. OY!!! But it all worked out, and the counters are IN and they’re beautiful! 🙂

  5. I sure hope the worker coming today can get everything straightened out for tomorrow!  I agree that appliances should work properly out of the box.  Whirlpool ended up replacing our new microwave with a slightly different model a few years ago because it kept breaking and having to be repaired.  I’m mentally getting geared up to spend many hours in my closet weeding out, so that I have fewer tops that I will actually wear regularly.  It’s not like I don’t have a washer and dryer to keep them clean.  I’m tired of having so many clothes!  You won’t believe what I have put together to wear tomorrow, my bright pink sweater and grey jeans.😉I am adding my jean jacket since the high will not get out of the 40’s.  I’m going to say that great minds think alike!  I hope you have an awesome day!

    1. Ginger I agree. I’m minimizing my wardrobe. Too many clothes confuse me. I mostly live in jeans since I retired except for certain occasions. So a little each day.

      1. Mary, saying that having too many clothes confuses you, hits the nail on the head.  I think that is my problem as well.  I get so overwhelmed in my closet!

    2. I think you will love having a smaller wardrobe! People are always amazed when they see my closet b/c I really don’t keep that many clothes at a time. The closet confusion is a real thing.

  6. I always love these posts!

I had a good giggle when you shared your car-shopping look, though. My hubby has a car-shopping uniform of jeans and a hoodie. He believes in the “Cliff Huxtable” method of car shopping…go in looking like you don’t have money and they don’t jack up the prices. LOLZ.

  7. I can vouch for those light colored Rag & Bone jeans with the shredded hem. I bought them last month when you said you had your eye on them, and I love them! They are more legging like than say, AG jeans, but I feel like they make me look skinny. Plus the wash is unlike any other jeans I have. I’m 5’3″ but have long legs so the 27″ hem comes up to about where they do on you, and it’s easier to wear with booties. I wore them last weekend with a navy and pink-dotted sweater from Loft, plus dark gray suede booties from Nordstrom.

  8. These are always one of my favorite posts… The weather here has been soo cold or snowy, that I just feel like a grab the same outfits all the time to get me through.( I’m sick of my black puffer coat and boots of any kind, so I’ve resorted to wearing my black Nikes or black fashion sneakers on days that permit) I look at some of the newer things coming out but cant wear them quite yet:( I think I need to start looking at what I have for transitional pieces packed away as it will be awhile here before we are in the full spring mode…Last year I don’t think we even had spring????? I find lately if I buy something I leave it in the bag with tags and receipt until I actually wear it. If I don’t wear it within a few weeks I usually take it back. I’m trying not to fill my closet with pieces I don’t wear as you mentioned, and I am guilty of that….I heard someone once say once you’ve worn a piece turn it backwards once you have and see by the end of the month what you’ve actually wore. I am sure I wear my favorites… Too bad about the new oven fan… Hopefully just a small glitch. I cant wait to see the new kitchen I love before and afters… and yes I watch Love it or List it. LOL We have our first Maytag fridge we bought for our first house in our garage as a second fridge( which I love for the over flow and holidays) Nothing fancy but we have had it for 24 years and I think we replaced the fridge light bulb once… They don’t make things like they used to that’s for sure…

    1. We never get much of a spring here, and after 25 years, I still get cranky about it. I miss Virginia springs! We also have a fridge in our basement from 2 houses ago. It’s like 20 years old and going strong!

  9. These real life posts are my fav. Sorry about the appliances and reno hassles. I feel your pain. We had a flood that turned into a full reno. We were told it would all be done in 6 – 8 weeks……well, 9 months later it was finally done! I could write a book but nobody would believe me the dramas and misadventures that occured. It was a gong show. Dealing with insurance is not fun or easy. Yes, its all 1st world problems but its still stressful. Hope your kitchen renos get back on track! Good luck!

  10. I dont think you are complaining. Just letting us in on what’s going on. I appreciate that. On fashion news it is 70s here. We have not had much winter in Savannah. I’ve worn sweaters very seldom. So I’m done shopping for winter. On to spring. Ready for my white pants now.

  11. Happy Wednesday! I have a question about the Everlane loafers. Do they have any padding or support In the footbed area? It’s hard to tell online but they look so soft and I love the color you chose!

  12. Hey. Did you have a LIVE yesterday? If so did I miss link today? I watch afterwards. Don’t have Facebook. Thanks.

  13. Kitchen renovations – you are not complaining! We gutted and remodeled our dream home, then sold it when the kids went to college and did it again three years later. Get it right – you won’t regret it!  BTW, your outfit with the camel sweater, black vest, and leopard flats? I wore something very similar today and was told my outfit was “adorable “! THANK YOU for your inspiration!
