My Favorite Fall Wardrobe Staples

Well, girls! September is in full swing, and next week we officially welcome Autumn. I know not all of you are experiencing fall temperatures just yet, but it’s on its way. I promise!

Today I’m sharing some of my favorite fall wardrobe staples from Lord + Taylor, and now’s the time to stock up on fall essentials because they’re running their Biggest Sale of the Season — a buy more, save more event where you can get up to an extra 40% off your order until 9/24/19.

When it comes to fall wardrobe staples, I’m all about cozy sweaters and great fitting jeans.

This olive green dolman-sleeve sweater has a really pretty texture to the knit, and it’s lightweight so perfect for wearing now and later.

I paired it with these 7 For All Mankind high-rise cropped jeans in a nice mid-indigo wash. They have only the slightest distressing, so they look polished but casual.

We’ve been talking a lot about the evolving denim silhouettes lately, and these are one of the best cropped straight styles I’ve tried yet. They’re slim enough to be flattering but still have that straight-leg silhouette that’s trending.

These jeans run true to size; I’m wearing the 29, for reference.

Speaking of fall wardrobe staples — I think a great pair of mules or loafers should be in every woman’s closet — and bonus points for animal print!

These mules have a soft, padded footbed. They’re easy to walk in, but they’re a little small on me. I sized down to a 7.5, as I usually do in mules, but I wish I’d ordered my regular size 8. I don’t recommend sizing down in these.

And a classic leather tote is a must. This bag has a worn-in look and feel, and I love the covered magnetic closure and outside slip pocket for stashing my phone.

It also has internal pockets, and the straps have a comfortable 10″ drop for easy carrying.

I completed the look with a reversible pendant necklace from Lucky Brand. I love their jewelry — it’s on trend and always has nice details and a bit of a rocker vibe.

This outfit is pretty much my fall uniform — you can’t go wrong with a stylish sweater, great-fitting jeans, animal print loafers, and a leather carryall.

Since Lord + Taylor is having a buy more, save more sale, I also picked up this cozy v-neck sweater in the dusty green color they call Abyss.

I love the wide v-neck and the details in the knit, and it’s super soft and cozy.

This sweater I paired with light wash Hudson Jeans mid-rise cropped jeans, and I added taupe booties.

These jeans are a classic skinny fit with a 11.5″ leg opening and a 27″ inseam. This puts them in between ankle-length and cropped jeans, depending on your height.

I also like the slightly wider leg opening — it’s more in line with the straighter looks that are trending, but you still get the ease of skinny jeans. These jeans run also true to size, and I’m in the 29.

This time I went with an ankle boot — my other key fall wardrobe staple.

The lower shaft on these leather booties makes them easy to pair with ankle-length jeans, and the cut-out on the side and 2″ stacked heel keeps them both stylish and walkable.

Once again, I completed the look with a Lucky Brand necklace — this time a silver layered charm necklace that comes with a 2″ extender so you can adjust the length to your liking.

I love this unexpected pastel color palette for fall, and how the taupe booties and silver jewelry complement the cool tones in this outfit. Once again, just an easy look to throw on and go, and you will feel polished and put-together no matter what your day throws at you.

  1. Beautiful fall outfit. I love that first sweater, in both color & style!  The pastel sweater is nice as well but the first one is my fav!  Love that whole put together look!  Great job, as usual!

  2. Love both of these looks, the sweaters look so cozy and comfy! I still didn’t get to wear the sweaters I bought at the anniversary sale, I’m thinking fall is skipping us this year! Happy to read you’re going to post more looks with the style of jeans you shared yesterday!

  3. Oh, those crops are much better. A great post. We may be cooling off a tad in Savannah so I’m ready for fall. Seems like it’s been a long hot summer.

  4. The temp you woke to this morning is heavenly!  It was in the upper 60’s here.  I was out using the weed eater and moving some of our larger rocks on one side of our driveway before 7:30 and was all done before 9.  I was grateful for our temp, but yours would have been even better.  I really like both outfits!  The more I REALLY look at where your jeans hit your ankles when you have on booties, the more I see how much better it looks when the sweet spot is visible.  Have a great day!

  5. I like these outfits.  That first one is just perfect for fall – if it ever comes!  I love Franco Sarto footwear.  I have bad feet, but can usually wear their shoes.  It’s good to see all the different jean styles to figure out what looks good with what.

    Good post!

  6. I love both outfits…very cute!   The olive green sweater is so pretty.  It looks like it has some either navy or black speckles in it.  What color would you say they are?  What size did you order and would you say it runs tts?

  7. I’m not sure why, but I just cannot get into mules or loafers. Many times I like a “look” on others, but not me. However, I don’t like the look of mules or loafers on me or others-I ‘m not sure why. To each his own, of course!

    1. Larissa, I am with you. I thought I was the only one & would eventually get used to them. But, no. Do not care for them on self or anyone from any view. I like everything else about the outfits tho!

  8. Love both these looks. The sweaters look so cozy. It’s been getting more into sweater weather but now this weekend it’s going to be back into the 80’s. I love summer but I’m actually just ready to have fall temps and be done with it.🍁

  9. Both sweaters look great on you, both color and fit. They fit much better on you than on the models. When I see them on the models, the sleeves look too long and the olive one flares too much at the bottom. I would have passed them up if I hadn’t seen you wearing them. Were you surprised they fit differently than the photos when you tried them on?

  10. I really like that moss green sweater! Too bad it has wool though, it’s almost never cool enough for wool here.
I was watching a makeup tutorial the other day and she had a Nars your favorite blush dupe. Here’s the link: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=stVtX4YBD3w It starts about 5:20 on the blush.
I just thought of you once she said the name of the blush (wink).

  11. Great outfits and colours on you.  Love the jeans!  The long necklace gives the illusion of a v-neck in your first pic🙂

  12. Both outfits are beautiful. I would never thought to wear the lighter booties with the pastel sweater. You are so smart. I love the bulkier sweaters. Too bad I will never get the wear out of them here in south Texas. I bought too many lighter weight sweaters last cool season so can’t justify more – oh maybe just one!

  13. You nailed it! I love both outfits. Great fitting jeans and a cozy sweater are perfect for those days that are a little chilly.
