My Signature Style: Comfy Chic

Carrie-Making-Lemonade-Series-Graphic-Final-GOLD

I’m joining up with 21 other bloggers today to share our signature style. This should be a fun way to meet new bloggers and find new blogs to inspire and connect with. I think you will LOVE these ladies.

The fabulous Carrie at Making Lemonade put this little event together. I absolutely adore Carrie’s style. I like to say that I write about real food and real fashion for real life, and I would say that Carrie writes about real home decor and DIY for real life. In fact, I love her style so much that I’ve been begging her for MONTHS to be a regular contributor here at Musings of a Housewife in the for a monthly home deco/DIY feature. We’ll see if I can eventually twist her arm.

As for me, I suppose I would call my signature style Comfy Chic. Is that a style? Well, it is now, ha!

To illustrate my signature style, I put together this little style sheet. Super fun, right!!??? Say yes. It took me hours. I know it doesn’t look like it took hours, but I’m completely obsessive when it comes to projects like this. Tell me you can relate. For fun, I should post the 272 drafts I have on my computer right now. Don’t worry, I won’t!

Whether we’re talking fashion or style for the home, I like to be put together but comfortable. Like most of you, I’m a busy mom and I don’t have time to be fussy, but at the same time I like to feel pulled together and polished. In my perfect world, my home would be that way too! As it stands now, it looks that way about once a week for the 30 minutes after the cleaning lady leaves. Ha! Maybe some day . . .

Here are some examples of my Comfy Chic style. This is one of my favorite outfits from last fall. I cannot WAIT to break out my Toms Desert Booties and military jacket again.

Right now, I’m still diggin the summer frocks and shorts. This outfit is from White House Black Market, one of my favorite shopping haunts. They do comfy chic so well. I love dressing up a pari of shorts for a night out with the girls.

But I love a great dress as much as the next girl. C. Wonder has an awesome selection right now, although unfortunately this chevron print is sold out.

Home decor is not where my talents lie, but I know what I like and I try to keep it minimal yet cozy.

We have three kids so it’s a challenge to keep it all organized. Thankfully I have smart friends who help me out. My friend Darla and I whipped my laundry room into shape last summer. You can find how we did it in my laundry room organization post.

If you’re new here, I hope you’ll take some time to poke around! I post daily on all things food, fashion and family. I like to think I help busy moms stay healthy and stylish while they’re juggling the demands of kids, career and home. My blogging schedule looks something like this:

Sundays: Real Food Recipe Roundup, a collaboration with Sassy Moms in the City where we share our menu plans for the week as well as a linkup for healthy recipes.

real food recipes

Mondays: Mondays are a bit of a potpourri. I may post a recipe or a travel-related post. I have a series I’ve been working on called Things To Do With Kids . . . in various cities around the country. I take submissions for these posts so if you have something that isn’t already covered, let me know!

Tuesdays: Beauty Buzz, a collaboration with 3 other lifestyle bloggers to share our beauty tips and host fabulous giveaways. I often post videos along with my makeup tutorials. This is one of my most popular beauty posts, this Easy DIY Eye Makeup Tutorial.

Wednesdays: Daily Mom Style, where I join the throng of women around the web posting photos of my favorite outfits from the week. This is by far my most popular feature. It’s all real style for real life. Sometimes I even post myself in workout gear, if that’s what I wore all day!

Thursdays: another miscellaneous day. This is often the day that my food contributor, Colleen, posts her delectable recipes. Like this copycat Seasons 52 White Bean Bacon & Pesto Soup . . . perfect for the upcoming fall weather!!!!

Fridays: The ORIGINAL Fashion Friday linkup. We’ve been doing this for years, long before anyone was posting their outfit photos. This is where I share the latest trends and how to wear them or post about fabulous sales or deals for clothes and accessories. I’m not really a fashionista. I’m just learning as I go and sharing it with you. For example, last Friday’s post was about fall wardrobe essentials for moms.

Saturdays: Coffee Talk, or a little feature I dubbed “Old School Blogging” — this is when I go back to my roots and write about whatever is on my mind at the moment. My longtime readers like this one a lot.

I often post more than once a day, so I will throw in extra recipes, fashion posts, personal and fitness post, and sponsored posts as I have them. What can I say, I have a lot of interests!

In addition to fashion and food, I love to read (oh yeah, I also post book and movie reviews from time to time!) and run, although I’m currently recovering from multiple running-related injuries at the moment. I’m trying to love biking, and I’m determined to get into a yoga class this fall, but I’m a runner at heart. There’s nothing like it.

I’m a transplanted Virginian living in the Philly suburbs, and I suppose I can pretty much call Philly my home now, as I’ve lived here longer than I ever lived in Virginia. I’ve been married to 19 years to this computer whiz/handyguy named Paul, and together we have three kids and one incredibly spoiled little shih-tzu named Savannah.

Now be sure to check out the other participants in the Signature Style Series. They will be posting throughout the week. And stay tuned because at the end of the week, there’s a fantabulous giveaway!!!!! I will be posting that separately.

Now let’s continue the Signature Style Blog hop by visiting Unskinny Boppy. I have only become acquainted Beth through this Signature Style Series, and I’ve been pouring over her site, take it all in. I love her “flea market fancy” style and how she has the ability to make her home look both fashionable and cozy at the same time. I want her to come decorate my porch for fall RIGHT. NOW.

  1. What a fun series! I’m looking forward to checking out the other blogs. I would love to write a post for you about what to do with kids in Seattle. My boys grew up here, and we’ve done everything! I’m really enjoying reading about your 21 day challenge. I’ve thought about doing something similar, but it scares me. You’re doing great!

  2. Love the comfy chic outfit. You’ve mentioned the Tom’s wedges a couple times and I am so curious if they are comfortable. I share some of the same foot issues that you have, but I love a shoe with some height. Any info you can share about the wedges? Thanks for sharing on your blog.

    1. Hi Karol. They are SO VERY comfortable. Really, I bought them last year when my PF was at its worst. The wedge gives some relief off the heal, and the footbed is super comfy.

    1. Hey Duane, thanks so much for stopping by and taking the time to comment! Yes… Cape May is so lovely. So much more peaceful and charming than most other Jersey shore towns, although I love them all for their own type of charm, lol. So great to “meet” you!

  3. What a wonderful post Jo-Lynne! It’s so nice to get to ‘meet you’ through this fun series! I love your signature style comfy chic!! Wishing you a speedy recover for your running injuries – i spent all of May and June recovering from a leg trauma when I had a mountain bike accident so I literally ‘feel your pain’! Where did you live in Virginia? We lived in Chesapeake VA for 3 years – small world! Heather

  4. So…. I may or may not have finished a bottle of the Oyster Bay on the beach tonight. And I definitely have the Toms ankle boots. And… I grew up in Alexandria, VA. Mean we’re pretty much kindred spirits, right?! Love this!
    xx Charlotte

  5. I love your style. Where did you buy your MIchael Khors watch. I can’t seem to find that particular one. Do you know the name of watch. Thanks.
