New Year, New You!

The presents have been unwrapped, the Christmas cookies have been consumed, and the last tree is coming down this weekend… or that’s the goal anyway. It’s time to get back to routine, and I’m more than ready!

As usual when kicking off a new year, I’m feeling super motivated to get all the nooks and crannies of my life organized and hit the reset button on my healthy eating and exercise habits. Not only do I want to get back on a more consistent running and strength training routine, but I’m also making it a goal to move more during the day.

Working from home, it can be easy to spend hours upon hours alone at the computer, and that’s bad in so many ways. My eyesight suffers, and I get stiff and sore from sitting for so long, plus most health problems are linked to a sedentary lifestyle.

Sure, I run a few times a week and lift weights, but the majority of my time is spent on my hiney looking at a computer screen. #notgood

Fortunately Lord & Taylor‘s New Year, New You Sale is going on now through January 8th, where you can save an extra 15% off regular priced and sale items throughout the store with code NewYear. I used this opportunity to update my activewear and invest in the Fitbit Versa fitness smartwatch to help me track my movement throughout the day, as well as my mileage and heart rate when I’m running.

I can hook up my new watch to my iPhone and get calendar alerts and text messages, and it also stores my favorite playlist so I don’t have to carry my iPhone when I’m out walking or running.

Plus it just looks cool, ha! I love the minimalist design.

Lord & Taylor also has a nice activewear selection. I just added these high-waist sunburst pieced leggings and this cropped mockneck sweatshirt to my closet.

I thought the pattern on these pants was super fun. They’re nice and thick, and they have a hidden pocket in back waistband that’s perfect for storing your house key or a tissue.

This cropped sweatshirt is perfect for throwing on over your workout tank when going to and from the gym or yoga studio, or it’s cute with jeans for a casual weekend look. For size reference, I’m wearing a medium in both pieces.

These Skechers sneakers are great for walking the dog or running errands when you want to be comfortable. Their air-cooled memory foam insole helps keep your feet cool and sweat-free.

I also picked up a new athletic tee and moto high waist leggings for wearing to the gym for my strength training workouts. This tee runs big; I’m wearing a small for reference.

I love the moto detailing on these leggings, and they have ventilated panels to keep you cool when you’re working out.

This is also a good time to refresh the bra situation. I picked up this Bali shaping underwire bra because a few of mine were getting old. If you haven’t updated your bras in the past year, check out the sale section at Lord & Taylor.

  1. I love my FitBit alert at 10 minutes to the hour that tells me I haven’t  moved in that hour! I also work from home, and unless i’m on a FaceTime call, I get up and at least walk the 250 steps it recommends (and tracks as active); but if it is possible at all, I walk the last 10 minutes of the hour in the house. I know it is not a replacement for actual workouts but it has definitely helped my flexibility and even my concentration and productivity. Game changer for me!

  2. I have had the Fitbit alta for awhile now (after having the flex before that.) I love that it “reminds” me each hour to get in at least 250 steps. (Sometimes I want to yell at it – I can’t walk this hour because I am in a meeting, etc. haha!) I check my heart rate at the end of the day, see how I did, and of course I use it to try to meet my goal steps (I walk) every day. Love your leggings (the first ones), but they have no mediums left (only small, large and extra large). Great price! Oh, well!

  3. Good Morning JoLynne! Your post is timely, for me anyways. I hit the reset button two days ago- types of food, bavk to workouts . I fooled myself into thinking once a week was good enough, HA!
I work at home full time so i hear you on the hiney issue. I am always saying to my husband – my bum is numb! Not good. Several of my coworkers have sitting/standing desks so for my new year reset I ordered one for myself. Very excited as it is due to arrive today. Can’t wait to set it up. I’ll let you know how it goes. Because of back issues, i find it best to change positions but that isdifficult with a conventional desk.  Fingers crossed.
I like the recaps. Also thanks for sock tip on the Q&A.

I love this, I don’t make New Year resolution cause I can’t seem to keep them, but I do like the quote its just what I want to do for the New Year. So if you don’t mind I am going to write this down and post it on my lamp shade (that’s where I keep things I want to remember) as a motivation. The workout wear is fabulous I like to look good when going to the gym or walking the track, can’t stand the tee shirt and loose pants thing. Your workout buddy is to cute. Have a Happy New Year

  5. Jo-Lynne, I like the recap of recent blog posts. I find myself rereading posts and it reminds me to go back and look at an item. Works far better than a mental note. LOl. Oh, and I did cave and bought the Mango bag. Can’t wait until it arrives. Happy Friday!

  6. I got a Fitbit too in September and love it. Started back at work on Wednesday and did a class at the gym – Uggg! Amazing what two weeks of nothing does to the body – LOL! Yoga yesterday and hitting the gym again today. I think some new workout gear might be another thing to continue the motivation!

  7. Your precious fur baby looks so cute in these pictures.  As soon as both of us feel better than we do this week, we are going to start using our Wii Fit regularly, to get us in better shape.  My #1 commitment is to get referred to an allergist so that I can get a grip on my allergies, again.  Since I stopped the allergy shots in the fall of 2016, I have had more sinus infections and days that I just don’t feel good.  I’m done!  Enjoy your girls night out and the quieter weekend.

    1. Ginger,
Have you tried doing nasal irrigation with a saline bicarb solution using distilled water (never tap water) twice a day? It helps me. The Neil Med sinurinse bottles at Wal-Mart are easy to use; easier than a Neti Pot. I believe you live in Texas? Texas has the worst allergy rates in the USA unfortunately. Hopefully an allergist can help you more. Good luck!!

      1. Hi!  I actually live in GA.  I have been allergic to mold, dust mites, rubber, and gold for years, and up until the fall of 2016, I received allergy shots, which worked miracles.  I have used sinus washes in the past.  I appreciate your suggestions.

  8. I just put my FitBit HR back on yesterday…gotta’ get up off my butt during the day. I love those leggings. Super cute and if they are thick, woohoo….hide all the bumps!!!! Happy weekend! XO

  9. I discovered Miranda Esmonde-White’s Classical Stretch on PBS in March.  23 minutes a day of what feels like (usually) easy movement has transformed my body and energy.  I have always been thin, but in the past 10 years or so have really lost muscle tone even with walking miles every day.
I encourage anyone to check it out.  I recorded a whole season’s worth of shows but you can buy DVD’s or just do it live whenever it’s on your local PBS channel.  I am not a sponsor although I sound like one!!

  10. I love my Fitbit. The desired 10,000 steps is a real motivator. It seems like a lot but it’s not really. Getting your text messages, while out is another perk. I check my heart rate on it, as well. I think you’ll really enjoy your Fitbit! I’m motivated and will lose the extra pounds I gained over this year due to a torn meniscus.
The Moto workout pants are really cute!

  11. Having cute work out clothes helps to motivate me to work out. Love the graphic design on the black leggings; helps to hide my lumps and bumps. I have a Garmin fitness tracker watch and love it! Its really motivating to track # of steps, my heart rate, stress levels and minutes of exercise in my target heart rate zone. It keeps me honest and accountable!!

I like the recaps that you added. Always nice to refresh my memory.

Have fun at your girls night out!

  13. Love the workout wear, and what great deals on each piece! You know, after having some major back pain (due to years of sitting on a piano bench, practicing, teaching, etc.), my physical therapist informed me that “Sitting is the new smoking in the U.S.” She also told me that Americans have more orthopedic issues than any other nation on the planet….because we all sit too much! My husband and I are trying to move around more and we’re including walking and hiking into our routines. Hoping for a healthier and pain free 2019! Happy New Year to you and thanks for all you do! I look forward to reading your posts every day!

  14. I love the recaps.. it’s also nice to see different ways of switching up current pieces where we may not feel like purchasing new winter clothes right now. Although I did buy a new coat yesterday but the price was too good:) My radar is on new workout wear. I started back to my exercising this week and it felt good but my arms are dire today… But I’ve been re organizing and purging which feels great. I work from home as well and that’s why I try to have an exercise plan in place; They say at this age 80% is what goes in our mouths so I want to become even more conscious of the food choices ( no diets) 😉 I fully believe there are many health advantages in exercise so for me that’s a given.. I hope to have our tree down this weekend too it’s the  first year for an artificial so we’ve enjoyed leaving it up longer…
    happy weekend

  15. In the post, I see you are wearing Skechers.  I have always been an Asics girl.  I don’t run anymore, but I do walk 4 to 6 miles a day.  Like you, I have issues with my feet so a good athletic shoe is important.  Does Skechers give you enough support for serious walking?
Also,  I am want to up my daily beauty routine.  I would love to use some of the products you use, like Colleen Rothschild, but they are out of my generally out of my budget.  I am considering using the Olay line.  I know you have done comparisons on Olay products.  Would you say the Olay line is a good budget friendly product to use or is there another option?  Thank you for sharing your opinion.

    1. I wouldn’t run in the Sketchers, but they have a lot of cushion and are really comfy for walking. I don’t know that you’ll find they have the support of Asics, although that depends on the model you had. They make all different ones, and I like a stability sneaker when I run.

  16. Very timely post! I am training for a bodybuilding competition scheduled for April so I will be spending much of my time in workout gear. This sale has so many fabulous things to help me stay comfortable while I am in training.

  17. Hey Jolynne!! Happy New Year!! I love me some active wear. These outfits are really nice. I wear active wear more than I should. Even if I dont get to work out. It kind of inspires me to do so. And, of course, Sketchers is my go to work out shoe. Been wearing them for years. I really enjoy your blog. Never stop!! Another question, change if subject, what is your Home Decor Style? All I see is Farmhouse style or Cottage. I have a Split level. 3 Levels which includes a basement. So my house is not farm style. We are almost done remodeling the Kitchen. We have taken up carpet in the bedrooms. Getting ready to paint and redecorate. We are going from an antique whihe to Olympus White, which is a really pale grey. I’m not sure if my decorating style is Eclectic, Contemporary or what. I just want it to be comfortable, with soft lines. Hardwood floors with rugs. No leather. I do like color. I know this crazy but you have mentiones you like to decorate and I thought by would just ask. Have a Wonderful weekend!

    1. Hey Linda, I’m not sure what to call my decor style. Traditional/Transitional? Not farmhouse, for sure. 🙂 I like it to be comfortable but I’d say it leans a little formal. I do plan to do some room reveals soon!

  18. I purchased a Fitbit Versa in early January as a need to track my heart rate due to some health issues (ugh). I really love that 10 mins to the hour reminder to move! Working a desk job, it’s so easy to just sit for hours on end. I really like all the features it offers!

I am awaiting nicer weather so I can get out and move more. For now, the elliptical has to suffice.
