New Year’s Eve Outfit Inspiration

I know it seems like Thanksgiving was just last weekend, but New Year’s Eve is going to be here before we know it, so I’m teaming up with two other style bloggers to share some New Year’s Eve outfit inspiration!

I hung out with Tania and Jennifer at the conference I attended last month in Nashville, and we had the best time! I haven’t laughed so hard in years as I did with these ladies.

Not only are they a blast to hang out with, they are super stylish ladies who are killing it with their blogs, and today we’re each styling a New Year’s Eve outfit.

I always tend to forget about this event all the hubbub of the holidays, and who wants to go shopping for a New Year’s Eve outfit the week after Christmas? Not me!

So when I saw this metallic sweater when I was at Nordstrom last week, I snapped it right up. I knew right away it would be perfect for NYE as well as other festive events between now and then.

I was immediately drawn to the white sparkly knit, and then I noticed the ballet neckline and raglan sleeves — so much more flattering on those of us with broad shoulders than the crewneck with drop sleeves that is so popular right now.

Plus it has more of a date night vibe since it shows a little more skin than a typical sweater — I like the way it’s cut a little more open around the back of the neck as well.

This sweater has a relaxed fit, but it’s not super long over oversized. This is definitely a trendy sweater, but it’s still very wearable for those of us over 40.

I was also happy to note the extra long sleeves. Besides being cozy for winter, I feel like they’re slimming.

Fit-wise, it runs true to size; I’m wearing my usual small. It also comes in grey and red, if ivory isn’t your favorite.

Because my New Year’s Eve celebration is usually quite casual, I styled this sweater with medium wash blue jeans.

These are the AG Farrah, and they’re pricey but so worth it. The fit is amazing, they’re incredibly comfortable right off the rack, and they have the perfect casual medium blue wash.

I also like the raw hem — it adds to the casual vibe.

These have a comfortable 9.75″ rise, and the 28″ inseam is just about ankle-length on me. I’m 5’5″, for reference. They’re currently 15% off at Bloomies, but I’ve seen them as much as 30% off (that’s when I bought mine.)

You can also find other AG Farrah ankle jeans on deep discounts at Nordstrom Rack.

So these shoes . . . I wanted a heel, and I was looking for something with a little sparkle. I could use a pair of sparkly heels in my wardrobe anyway, and I figured this was a good opportunity to buy a pair.

I ordered a couple of options, and these were by far the most comfortable. I could walk in these all day. But I’m not sure I love the design… at least not with  jeans.

I think they could look good with the right skirt or dress, but with these jeans, they’re just not doing much for me.

This outfit definitely needs a high heel, though. I wanted this pair in the nude suede champagne, but they were sold out of my size at the store the day I was shopping. I ended up ordering them online in my size, and they arrive today. I can’t wait to try them with this outfit! I’ll take a mirror selfie and share it with you later.

I could also wear my Yaro sandals in the jute with this outfit… or maybe OTK boots? That’s another option, if you have the right color.

While the neckline of my sweater is fairly plain, I didn’t want to wear a necklace with it. I prefer a simple, uncluttered look so I added a little bling to my casual New Year’s Eve outfit with these pave drop earrings.

And this clutch is one I’ve had for years. I wanted to keep everything fairly in these light neutral metallic hues, so it’s perfect with this outfit.

This is exactly the type of thing I like to wear to a casual New Year’s Eve party at someone’s house… which is usually what we end up doing. In fact, we may be the ones hosting again this year.

The shimmer in the sweater has a festive vibe, but it’s still casual and comfortable and pairs perfectly with my favorite blue jeans. The strappy pumps and the sparkly pave earrings elevate the look and keep it holiday-appropriate, and the champagne leather clutch is the perfect finishing touch.

It’s getting late, but a lot of items are still available for shipping before Christmas! And you can definitely get most of these pieces in time for New Year’s Eve. This sweater is available in some colors and sizes for Christmas delivery, and with Zappo’s 24-hour shipping, you can get my pumps right away as well.

  1. Great post! We stay in New Year’s Eve these days but I enjoy looking. I started following Tania after your readers recommended her and she’s hysterical. I want to be her friend too 😃

  2. What a perfect NYE outfit!  It’s festive but comfortable – my kind of outfit ( although I must confess most NYE’s I’m at home in my pj’s).  😉

You’re right about those pumps you’re wearing in the picture. But the champagne ones you ordered- yes!  😍

If you’re not waking up at your usual time it could be your body is just telling you that you need to get a little extra rest – so listen to it.  Enjoy your Bible study.  What are y’all studying right now?

  3. That is a very pretty sweater!  I agree with you about the heels not completing the outfit, but I am very confident that you have the perfect shoes in your closet.  We usually are in front of our tv, welcoming in the New Year home alone.  The weather and our health will determine whether or not we gather with some of the neighbors for a bonfire on NYE.  Our attire is super super casual due to the sandy soil and living in very rural America.  Have a great day!

  4. I love the outfit! Casual, dressy, comfortable and fun! (BTW, I am going thru that slump too where I cannot get myself out of bed. Must be the weather!)

  5. Perfect outfit….as usual!  We USED to host the family New Years Eve get together.  But as we all got older, everyone seemed to be asleep in their respective chairs by 10:00!  (Of course, our kids were good for at least another 5 hours…) Now the hubby & I go out for a nice early New Years Eve dinner, come home & watch some TV, fall asleep in the recliners by 10, wake up to ring in the New Year, then hit the sack!  I think these dark mornings are messing with us, as I’m usually up by 5:30 as well. Lately I’ve had to set the alarm so I can be up before the grandkids come!  So nice that you’ve found a Bible study group!

  6. I enjoyed your blog! Tania sent me! I like your styling ideas, I may be able to shop my own closet to mix and match.

  7. Our News Years Eve is a House party at our friends. There’s usually anywhere from 60-80 people, it’s become our tradition:) nice part is it’s just up the street from us and that normally means we are part of the group that stays too late😉. This outfit is pretty much a go to for news years or a pretty top or blouse with the jeans( it gets a little warm inside).. thanks for sharing.

  8. I appreciate your heart for women and your classy style. I am 5’2” and I would love the name of a blogger who is also short,  Thank you so very much!!

  9. I like the shoes with your jeans! They’re a little unexpected which I think is fun. I’d buy them in a second if I could handle the 4 inch heels. Sadly, I don’t do higher than 3 anymore.☹️
