Nordstrom Anniversary Sale 2016 Dressing Room Selfies #NSale

Instead of an Instagram roundup this morning, I thought I’d share some of the dressing room pictures I took during my Nordstrom shopping spree. For all of my #Nsale recommendations, see my Guide to the Nordstrom Anniversary Sale. (Why did no one tell me my Handbag picks and the Coats & Jackets weren’t showing!?! I have fixed that now. There are SO many great handbags and jackets this year… make sure to take another look at that post now that it’s complete!!!)

My First Impression & What I Learned

I was seriously so impressed with this #NSale this year. It is the first time I’ve ever shopped it in the store, and I didn’t know what to expect. I was able to get in the day before the sale to preview it, and I spent almost three hours trying on clothes on Wednesday night with the help of a lovely sales associate named Dorothy.

She held my selections until Thursday when the sale officially opened to card holders. I wrote my #NSale Guide early Thursday morning, and then I headed back to the mall to shop shoes, handbags, and jewelry.

Thursday, my store was a madhouse. I could not believe how many people were shopping. There were waiting lines for the dressing rooms, and the shoe department was handing out numbers and calling them on an intercom system when a sales associate was available.

I was so grateful to have Dorothy taking care of me again. She made sure I had a dressing room and brought me different sizes and even ran down to the crazy shoe department to get the styles I wanted to try.

If you ever go to Nordstrom to shop the Anniversary Sale on the first day, make sure to make an appointment with a stylist! It is a free service offered to all guests, and SO worth it on big sale days when the store is crowded.

If you don’t have an appointment, go early and start in the shoe department. Even with Dorothy’s help, I didn’t get to try on all the shoes I wanted, and I never made it to handbags. It was so crazy, and I’d been there so long that I just came home and ordered more online.

I know, it sounds insane, and it sort of is! But the deals are truly magnificent, and the prices won’t be this low again until at least late October, at which point, sizes will be selling out and fall will be half over.

Ultimately, it is easiest to shop online. That is one reason that I studied the catalog and went to the store first thing — so I can share the best styles and deals from the sale and report back on quality and fit, and YOU can avoid the madness and shop from your living room couch! When you shop through my affiliate links, I made a small commission, but it doesn’t cost you an extra penny. Just consider me your virtual stylist!!!

HINT: Choose Store Pickup if you have a local Nordstrom so you can get your stuff sooner! I did some of that, and other things are coming to the house when I get home. I feel sorry for the poor postman who will deliver all of the mail they’re holding through the week… ha!

The other thing I do is follow the coverage of other fashion bloggers. For one thing, I find it fascinating to see how they cover it and what pieces they deem worthy of their recommendations. But it’s also a great way to discover products I might have missed. Because, y’all. There is SO MUCH. I had no idea there would be this much merchandise in this sale.

So, let’s get started!

Shop With Me!

This is by no means comprehensive. I was also snapchatting from the dressing room, and I forgot to take pictures of many of the items I tried, but I can at least share what I have, as well as some Instagram posts I have shared with clothing I brought home with me.

For size reference, I am 5’5″ and 140# and short waisted.

I love this Two by Vince Camuto Sleeveless Slub Cowl Top. It came home with me! It’s simple, but I feel like it is flattering and it will be a nice transition piece for those warm fall days, plus it would be cute layered under a cardigan or fitted jacket. It’s on sale for $38. After the sale, it will be $59.

I did not care for this Pleione Sleeveless Tunic, but maybe you would like it. I felt like it just hung straight down and didn’t flatter my curves very well.

In both of those pictures, I’m also wearing these Two by Vince Camuto Seamed Back Leggings. They’re on sale for $31, and after the sale they will be $49. I love these! They are super thick, and they have some really pretty seaming details on the front as well as the single seam up the back. They’re available in regular and petite.

leggings

They’re a nice alternative to plain leggings, especially for those ladies who are worried about leggings being too see-through and showing cellulite. There’s more to them, and they would be more work appropriate, if you need work wear. Just make sure to wear a top long enough to cover the crotch area. Yes, I said it. I hate that word, but it needs to be said! Leggings are not pants — especially at the office!

K. Moving on.

Another Two by Vince Camuto piece that I’m excited about is this Sleeveless Waffle Stitch Cowl Neck Sweater. It’s on sale for $45, and it will be $69 after the sale. The website advises to size down, but I’m wearing a medium. I probably should have tried on the small for comparison sake, but I didn’t want it to be clingy, and you never know if it will shrink when it’s washed, so I figured I’m better off safe than sorry. This isn’t long enough to wear with leggings, but it would be super cute with colored jeans this fall, and you could certainly wear it with slim dress pants for work.

This Colorblock Scuba Sheath Dress is absolutely stunning. It would be perfect to wear to a fall wedding or other dressy event. I did size up to a 10 in this dress. It’s on sale for $98, and after the sale it will be $148. I didn’t buy this because of the cleavage — I’m just not a fan of that, but it would be great on someone who isn’t quite as well endowed. I still think it’s a super flattering dress for curvy figures, but I found another dress I liked better that I actually think I will get some wear out of this fall, so I decided to leave this one in the store.

Colorblock Sheath

The dress I did bring home is this Eliza J Grid Print Ponte Shift Dress. It’s priced a bit lower — $78 now and $118 after the sale, and the 8 fit me perfectly in this one. I can totally see wearing this with ankle boots this fall and tights and tall boots this winter.

I totally fell in love with this Chelsea28 Suede Moto Jacket. It is on sale for $199, and after the sale it will be $299, which is still a decent price point for a suede jacket, but if I’m going to buy an investment piece like this, I’d rather get it on sale!!! I’m wearing the medium, so it runs TTS.

This is almost sold out, but keep an eye on it. They usually restock some of the more popular items before the sale goes live to the public. That’s July 22, and if you are not a card holder, definitely make your list and mark your calendar! It will be here before you know it, and sizes will go fast at that point and may not be restocked until they are back up to full price.

This Print V-Neck Blouse was a big no for me. It’s $51, so a nice price for a work wear piece, but I’m not sure who it would flatter.

This Vince Jumbo Cashmere Hoodie is pure luxury, and I love the styling. It is on sale for $183 and will return to $275 after the sale. This is an AMAZING piece, but I didn’t bring it home because I’d rather put $183 towards that suede jacket or a pair of great shoes.

vince sweater

This is another Vince piece. I loved this Side Zip Ribbed Knit Wool Turtleneck. It looks like a basic ribbed turtleneck, but the fit is fantastic, and the zipper detail on the sides adds interest. Of course it feels amazing on. But again, I prioritized shoes and handbags and jackets over sweaters at this price point.

This Fringed Striped Poncho is a great statement piece. Throw it on over a t-shirt and jeans and instantly look chic while staying cozy and warm. It’s on sale for $45, and it will be $78 after the sale.

Unfortunately, that’s about all I have from the dressing room. I know, it’s not as much as I’d like. I’ve seen other bloggers posting full outfits, down to shoes and handbags, from the dressing room, and I just don’t know how they did it. I guess Dorothy would have brought me all those pieces if I’d asked. I was shopping more for pieces than for outfits, but maybe that’s not the best way to do it — at least for a blogger who wants to be able to show outfits with the sale pieces. I’ll remember that for next year!

When I get back home, and everything I ordered has been delivered, I will have more than enough pieces to create fall outfits, and I’ll definitely share a few ideas with you just in time to shop the last week of the sale.

#NSALE SHOPPING TIP >> During the last week of the sale, be sure to check back on pieces you wanted that sold out before you could get them. As people make returns, sizes will be replenished, although it will be hit or miss so you’ll want to watch closely. I will do my best to keep you informed on the hot items.

Anniversary Sale Outfit Ideas

I put together a couple of outfits with the items I brought home before I left for Maine yesterday so I could share them on Instagram throughout the weekend.

This seamed pullover is $28!!! It is seriously the softest, most comfortable sweater I have ever touched that isn’t cashmere. I am wearing a medium. Dorothy agreed that it is the right size, as it is supposed to be oversized and baggy. I’m also wearing the seamed leggings I mentioned above and the Kendra Scott Rae Pendant.

And those shoes . . . these are one of my personal purchases. I say personal because SO many things I buy are for the blog, but these are simply because I love them. Last year I was wanting some silver or pewter ballet flats. I felt like I had outfits that needed them. These are snakeskin so that adds another extra special punch to an outfit. When I saw them in the store, I knew they were coming home with me.

They look gold online, but they are silver in person, and they are called Pewter. They are on sale for $164, and they will go up to $250 after the sale. They are quite comfortable, but I sized up to a 9. I usually wear 8.5 in ballet flats, and I wear 8.5 the Sam Edelman Felicia Flats, but I needed a 9 in these Tory Burch Heidi Flats.

For the 2nd outfit, I styled this Lush Blouse. This is sort of a sister to the Lush Tunic, but I like it much better. I’m really excited about this piece. I ordered this is 3 colors! It is only $27, and I love the fit. Perfect with jeans or dress pants, and it should be okay with leggings, but to be safe, you might want to size up. The Lush Tunic is probably still best for leggings.

Lush Blouse

I’m wearing my old Hudson Krista Crop jeans but I ordered the Paige Verdugo from the sale because I already know I love that style, and this classic dark wash is so versatile. They are on sale for $99, which is an AMAZING price for these jeans. Snatch them up NOW.

Paige Verdugo

And that’s all I’ve got! I’m writing this post from my SIL’s house in Massachusetts. She lives in the cutest little beach town, and I’m excited to spend the day by the water.

Have a great weekend!!

  1. I love the Nordstrom anniversary sale guide. It’s a nice way to organize the best of the best. Thanks for taking the time to put it together for your readers.

    Enjoy the beach! #beachdaysmakemehappy

  2. Thank you for sharing your no’s! I think it’s a great reminder that we need to try things on in order to discover new styles and brands. Can you tell me what shirt you were wearing under the poncho? I loved the detailing. Have a wonderful vacay!

  3. Thanks so much for the work it must have taken to put this post together! One question, what size is the Vince sleeveless top that you have on in the ivory first pic?

  4. Hi Jo-Lynne, you must’ve been worn out after trying all that on in the chaotic sale atmosphere (Dorothy too). Thank you for all your work on this. Great info. The Paige crop jeans: do they stretch out? I can’t stand when that happens. Also, do you think they would work with riding boots? Thank you again for your work on this.

  5. Thank goodness for free shipping as I just placed order #4! Added that poncho – had been considering it but I’m 5’4″ and figured it would swallow me not being tall but saw it looked good on you and decided it’s worth a shot!

  6. Oh my goodness that Eliza dress looks amazing on you!! I still haven’t pulled the trigger on the Chelsea jacket but seeing it on you here makes a better case! So cute!!

  7. Thanks for all of your work on this! I loved the waffle Stich cowl neck sweater on you- very, very flattering. I also always enjoy your writing style- I always feel like we are having a conversation!

  8. Yay! Terrific post! It really does help to see the things you didn’t like and your explanations about why you thought they didn’t work for you. It looks like you found some great bargains. (and I also enjoyed your facial expressions…you can tell by the look on your face which items you think are duds! LOL!)

  9. Thanks for all of the work you did for this!!! I appreciate how you do your posts :). Have a wonderful trip!!!!!

  10. I’m so glad you tried on the Pleione top. I was considering that one, but think with my larger bust that it wouldn’t work at all. I’m glad you went with a different dress than the Colorblock one. It’s a beautiful fit, but all I can see are the arrows pointing to the crotch area (sorry I said the word!). The suede jacket is so fabulous. I hope you are getting it.

  11. I cannot tell you how disappointed I was this year in the sale. Each year I buy at least 1 sweater/cardigan, shoes and jeans. This year nothing! Not one item. Much of the stuff you highlighted in your previous post were either sold out or not available. In the men’s dept where I get my boys a lot of back to school items it was also slim pickings. No graphic tees. No hoodies. Jeans were very expensive even at the sale price. Sneakers not great selection. Really disappointed overall.

  12. Thank you for all the pics and info on the #nsale. Thank you also for the heads up on the sizing of the TB flats. I am usually an 8 but sized up to an 8.5 , which fit perfectly. I ordered the wine suede ( called borscht) ..and I also ordered the pewter. They may be the most comfortable TB flats I own!
