NyQuil

Isn’t NyQuil supposed to make you sleepy?

So why am I sitting here, bright eyed and bushy tailed, and feeling rather agitated, I might add, two hours after medicating my flu with the trusty green stuff?

It must be that daggum store brand my husband insisted on buying.  "It’s the exact same ingredients," he said.  No.  It is NOT the same.  I’m here to tell you.

I want my NyQuil.

Is there a rule against mixing NyQuil and Unisom?

  1. Sometimes that stuff can do the opposite and keep you awake and jittery, from my own experience anyway. Sometimes it is best to buy the name brand stuff. I hope you feel better soon 🙂

  2. Actually, NyQuil did change not too long ago. It is no longer the sleepy medicine. Some kids were using the medicine to make drugs so they changed the recipe. That sounds like an urban legend I know, but my hubby claims this is true and also that he checked it out.

  3. I clicked the comments to tell you the exact thing Angela did – that the formula changed. Just like they changed Sudafed that you can still buy on the shelves. You can get the real stuff from the pharmacist once you sign your life away (which, by the way is the last thing I want to do when I’m feeling bad enough to have to buy it – to stand there and go through the process to buy it!) Too bad they don’t do the same thing with NyQuil. It really sucks that it changed. Once upon a time I could take half a dose and be knocked out cold for 8 hours at least. I miss those days!
