My Latest Obsession: Light Neutrals

Hello, friends. TGIF!! How’s everybody’s week going?? We decided to take the girls out to eat last Saturday night at a local bar & grille type of joint. It was a last minute decision, and I was already in my sweatpants, ready for an evening with the Gilmore Girls, so I ran upstairs and threw on this easy outfit. I wanted to be sure to share this outfit today because right now all sweaters at LOFT are 50% off!!!

This cowl tunic sweater had arrived in a rather large LOFT order the day before, and I was dying for a chance to wear it. It comes in 7 colors, and I ordered the Black and this Muted Mocha Melange. The black one is going back because I didn’t like how you can’t really see the details of the stitching, which is largely the reason I was drawn to this sweater in the first place.

The Muted Mocha Melange, however, is a keeper! I am such a sucker for this color paired with a light wash denim (bonus points for some light distressing!) I don’t know what it is about this combination of neutrals that I find so appealing, but it makes me so very happy.

This sweater feels incredibly luxe and the material seems a lot more expensive than it is. It has a great drape to it, and the sleeves are nice and long. For size reference, I’m wearing the Small. It definitely has an A-line shape, but it drapes nicely. It’s a tad too short to wear with leggings in my opinion, but if you’re shorter than I am, it might work. I’m 5’5″.

Note the ribbing on the side panels and the hem. It’s details like these that set one sweater apart from the next. You may pay a little extra, but it’s worth it. That said, the price point on this tunic is fantastic. It’s currently on sale for $29.75.

I wore it with my new favorite distressed jeans and these taupe booties. I love the chic simplicity of this look. It’s also cute with my burgundy suede ballet flats and my leopard ballet flats, but I prefer to wear heels with a longer top like this because it creates a better overall proportion.

If ankle boots confound you, see yesterday’s post about How to Wear Ankle Boots.

For similar jeans at a lower price point, these BLANKNY Distressed Skinnies are $88 and come highly recommended, although I see the sizes are getting depleted. Another pair to consider are the Vigoss Chelsea. If you don’t care for the distressed look, these DL1961 Emma Skinnies are on sale for $117 at Bloomingdales.

I’m so bummed that these Feina Booties are selling out. They’re so comfortable and they work with so many outfits. Because they’re very close to my skin tone, they look as great paired with dresses and skirts as they do with skinny jeans. These Faythe Booties are the same color, and I also like the Lucky Brand Eller Bootie in Brindle Oiled Suede for a little Western flair. It’s marked down to $99. Payless also has this Martinez Western Bootie for 44.99 and they’re BOGO 50% off right now.

I kept my accessories simple. These pearl studs are my new favorite earrings. You can’t really see it, but I paired a pearl spike cuff bracelet with my watch for a mini arm party, and my nail color is CND Fedora.

Finally, I carried my burgundy suede Covet Sunday Bucket Bag for a pop of fall color. I love how it matches my nails and ring. Little things like that make me happy. Ha! This outfit is super simple, but the combination of colors make it pleasing, and the details on the jeans and sweater take it up a notch.

You can totally adapt this with pieces in your own closet, but if you’re looking to add a new sweater or two to your fall wardrobe, LOFT’s 50% off sale is a great time to do it! This Side Tie Poncho that I styled last month is included, and I’m totally crushing on this Reindeer Sweater. I ordered one because I think it will be so fun at holiday time.

  1. This is exactly the kind of look I’ve been gravitating toward as well, I love it. And I love the handbag with it too. If I could justify one more sweater, I would jump all over this one. You mentioned a couple bootie alternatives to the Feinas..I actually have 2 pair of Ellers and love them. Not quite as comfy as the Feina, but my heels don’t slip when I walk and the price was fantastic (50% off). 🙂

  2. Love the cowl neck sweater. I checked it out online for sizes/colors as well as the reindeer sweater. We do have a Loft in our area (shocker), so I can see if its available & try one on for size. The burgandy tote really sets it off. The ice melted late yesterday up here. Now we are having downpours of sleet and yup, snow! BUT, it’s supposed to warm up to the 60’s, a gift for sure! I’m so excited to be going to an all day Croptoberfest scrapbooking event tomorrow, this Grammy needs a day off! Sunday, our 8 month old grandson will be dedicated in church, followed by a family dinner. Enjoy your family time today & sending prayers for a good race, no injuries!

  3. I agree that the detailing on the sweater is what makes it unique!!
Although, you know, as a accessoryaholic—I’d have to have put on a necklace or scarf—-I wish I could have a little more restraint like you—because you look marvelous.
I think the purse really adds a nice touch!
It’s nice to be spontaneous and be able to grab a great outfit without having to agonize over it!!

  4. Love that sweater! I just bought a similar sweater in that color myself after seeing it on another blogger. I would never normally reach for such a bland color…I usually want to grab something more colorful. But when I saw it styled with a colorful scarf and purse, I was in love. The sweater brought such a nice neutral base to add color too.

  5. I just bought this sweater in the royal blue color and can’t wait to wear it! So soft!!! Have a great weekend!

  6. I’ve always loved you in bright colors, but you look stunning in neutrals as well! I think with your dark hair color and skin tone it works so well. Just gorgeous!! Have a great weekend! <3

  7. You look great in that outfit! So comfy and pretty! I just got some distressed girlfriend jeans, so not as tight as skinnies….would you style them with a fitted top so you are not loose fitting on both top and bottom? I love the jeans but I’m not sure how to style girlfriend jeans. Thanks!

  8. You look awesome in this outfit! I would have passed this sweater up in the store, until I saw your post. I just stopped by Loft and tried it on. Wow! It feels so luxe and is very soft and flattering. It looks great with my off white skinny cords (and the plum colored ones that just arrived in the mail.) Thanks for a great suggestion. I’ll wear it this weekend! 🙂

  9. Love this look! I’ve also been drawn to lighter neutrals this year. Love the color of the handbag with the outfit.
