Pastel Holiday Look with Express

A big thanks to Express and ShopStyle for sponsoring this post!

Happy Friday, friends, and cheers to another weekend! One more week till Turkey Day… it’s hard to believe it’s already here. Of course, we’ve been decorated for Christmas for a week, so in a way, it’s almost weird that we still have Thanksgiving ahead of us.

Speaking of Christmas, today I’ve got a pastel holiday look from Express. Who says holiday outfits have to be red and green? Plus, it’s currently 50% off during their Black Friday Sale that launched today!

This look was actually inspired by this cozy plaid brushed fringe scarf. I just love these shades of blush, ivory, grey, and taupe.

I also appreciate that this scarf is long and narrow. There’s plenty of material to wrap around your neck, or you can let it hang, depending on the look you’re going for and how cold it is outside.

The wool blend car coat I’m wearing is the cocoon style that’s so popular at the moment, and it’s fully lined, with a one button closure and flap hand pockets.

I think this dusty pink is so fresh and fun for winter, and it pairs perfectly with all my favorite neutrals. This coat also comes in grey, and it runs true to size; I have the small.

Underneath, I’m wearing a monochromatic look with a cozy mock neck dolman sleeve sweater and high-waisted washed black skinny jeans.

I can’t get enough of neutrals lately, and I really like the mix of tones and textures in this look.

This ribbed dolman sweater is soooo cozy. It’s a nice, thick knit with some really nice details, and it looks good untucked or with a half tuck.

It comes in four luscious neutral shades. I’m wearing the beige, but I’d say it reads more as an oatmeal grey. The knit is a polyester/nylon/spandex blend, so it’s perfect for those who can’t wear wool, and it runs true to size. I’m in the small.

I’m also wearing the Express luxe comfort knit skinny jeans. These jeans feel amazing against the skin. They’re made of an innovative knit material that’s super soft and stretchy, but they hold their shape really well and are extremely flattering.

In fact, when I got out of the car for our photo shoot, Alison immediately asked where I got them and commented on how much she liked them.

You know what a denim snob I am, and I’m seriously impressed by these jeans. I knew Express had a good reputation for affordable denim, but these far exceeded my expectations.

They have a 28” inseam and about a 10 1/2″ rise, and they run true to size. I have the 6 regular.

These block heel sock booties keep the look event-ready with their pointed toe and 3 1/2″ heels, but they’re also remarkably comfortable.

They have a padded footbed, and the stretchy fabric has a lot of give so they don’t rub or constrict. They run true to size, as well.

Finally, I added a little bling to this polished meets cozy look with these twisted rope chain hoop earrings.

You can also see the details on the sweater a little better in this shot.

We may not have as many events and occasions this year as we usually do, but an outfit like this can work just as well for casual stay-at-home gatherings as it does for dinner out on the town.

The sweater and jeans are so comfortable, you might as well be wearing sweats, but you still look chic and put together for whatever may come up.

And if you do have an occasion to go out, throw on this gorgeous pink coat and add the plaid scarf for an effortless date night or holiday party look.

  1. Happy Weekend Jo-Lynne! I’m ready for some R&R too. Love the black skinny jeans. Great deal! Thanks as always for the great suggestions. Happy Thanksgiving to you and your family!

  2. What a beautiful look!   That color coat is so flattering with your color, and love the skinny jeans with those boots.
Yes indeed, this is a holiday season like no other….Our granddaughter put her Christmas tree up in her room 3 weeks ago!  I did all my outside Christmas decorating last week, when we had that warm spell in PA.  We all need something that makes us happy and decorating early this year is what we needed!  I’ll still wait until Thanksgiving weekend to flip on the lights!
As always thank you for the fashion inspiration!

  3. I really like the jeans and sweater. I have never tried Express jeans so I just ordered them. Thank you. Have a great weekend!

  4. You look so lovely in those colors…and those jeans fit you wonderfully! I’ve always been a fan of Express jeans so I can’t wait to try these. Have a great weekend!

  5. What an absolutely beautiful outfit that you look beautiful in!  If I needed a nice winter coat, that is the one that would be added to my closet.  I need one pair of really skinny jeans, so I’m thinking those might be perfect.  I have a challenge finding pants that fit in the waist while fitting nicely over my hips, so I don’t know if those would work or not.  While the price is good, I might be safer going with brands that I know fit my shape.  I hope y’all are enjoying your Christmas lights!  Have a great day!

  6. I want to order those black jeans! I was thrilled to see they have a tall/long option.
Question: I’m not sure what size to order. I’m normally a 27 in most jeans (28 in Paige). Do you have a suggestion?

  7. Beautiful pastels! I want to know if you have trouble wearing a jacket or coat over a dolman sleeve sweater. That always makes me hesitate because I worry there will be excess fabric.

    1. No, not usually. That is one nice thing about cocoon style coats, they have more room around the arms and in the body so it accommodates bigger sleeves. But this sweater, the dolman sleeves aren’t dramatic, and I think they would be fine under any coat.

  8. Gorgeous outfit! I only wish we could something like that here in tropical south Texas. Ugh – we had a few coolish days and now back to summer.
Question- if I see something on your blog and put it in my cart and it sits there for a while as in maybe days, and I add something else to the cart from somewhere else,  do you get credit for the item I selected from your blog?

    1. No, the last click is the one that counts, and it gets credit for the entire purchase, no matter where you found the products.

I can’t imagine not having all 4 seasons, but it sure would be nice to skip the mucky, icky spring! 🙂
