Red Knot Waist Top Outfit with Cropped Jeans

Can a girl have too many knot waist tops? I think not!

I admit, I’m a sucker for this trend, and I’ve got a few different styles — some that tie and others like this with more of a twist detail in the front — but this one might be my favorite one yet.

This top is really soft and flowy and easy to wear. It’s a little big on me and I have the small, so if in doubt, size down. I’m hoping it fits better after it goes through the washer and dryer. That said, I wore it all day for my son’s graduation party, and it held up just fine.

I think the tab sleeve detail is a nice touch, and I like the shape of the v-neckline and of course the knot waist detail.

It also comes in olive and white and a few striped options. I don’t usually buy duplicates, but I’m seriously debating the cobalt/white stripe — I think it would be so cute with white jeans and shorts.

Here’s a back view — you can see how it hangs a little longer in the back, but the material has such a nice drape that it doesn’t seem to add visual weight.

I’ve shared this top a few times with white jeans, so I decided to shoot this look with blue jeans. I’m fortunate to live in a part of the country with some cooler summer days (or at least nights) so I wear jeans year-round, but I particularly like a cropped length for summertime. I don’t think they keep me any cooler than full-length jeans, but they look more seasonally appropriate.

STYLE TIP >> The key to styling cropped jeans is to make sure your proportions are in balance. I like to wear a slightly shorter shirt than I do with full-length jeans, or I do a front-tuck to shorten the top. Heels look best, but flats can work too for a more casual look.

These mid-wash cropped jeans are super flattering and very comfortable, but they run small. For size reference, I have the 30, so I recommend sizing UP one full size from your normal. They have a little bit of give to them, but they don’t bag out at all.

I got these jeans on sale, but they’re still spendy, so I like to link to this Loft pair as a more budget-friendly option. I’ve tried the Loft pair, and they’re really cute on, but they do stretch out some with wear so I recommend sizing down.

These shoes were a recent splurge. I had my eye on them ever since they debuted earlier this spring, but I didn’t want to pay full price. I watched them go through a few different promotions, but when the price finally dropped under $200 at Bloomingdale’s and I saw my size, I snatched them right up.

I wasn’t sure I’d wear blue sandals enough to warrant the price tag, but I also know how well Stuart Weitzman shoes hold up and how well they fit me, and I have sooo many neutral sandals that I decided it would be a good idea to add a blue pair to my closet.

I love the color — they’re not really navy, not really denim blue — something in between, and I can already tell they’re going to be a lot more versatile than I had originally thought. I love how they pair with blue jeans.

For jewelry, I wore this large monogram pendant because I like how it fits the wide v-neckline. Then I added chandelier earrings and this coil wrap bracelet.

I love this red and blue combination, but when pairing these two colors you always run the risk of looking like the American flag, so while it was my natural inclination to grab my ivory saddle bag, I grabbed my cognac hobo instead.

STYLE TIP >> Carrying a brown or beige bag with a colorful outfit helps tone down the look and keep it grounded. You don’t have to be wearing brown anywhere else in the outfit for it to go.

I really wanted to carry that straw circle bag from this post — I think it would look cute with this outfit, but it’s already packed away for the move.

I’m loving the color combination of this outfit, and I hope it inspires you to shop your closet and put things together in new ways. The red top is amazing with white, of course, but I also love the way it pairs with the medium blue denim.

  1. How funny, because we are wearing red, white and blue on my blog today too, although we went for crazy today!!
I love those sandals, Jo-Lynne. I bet you’ll get more wear out of them than you think. I have 2 pairs of blue sandals that I wear a ton. Maybe because they go with jeans so easily? Or maybe I just wear a lot of blue??

  2. I really like the top!  I sure wish I needed more tops in my closet.  And those shoes, they are great.  Have a fabulous day!

  3. Love this oufit and those shoes!! 😍

It’s an easy, breezy outfit that works well for cool summer days or nights.

  4. Let me put a word in for Talbots high waist Jeans. Barely boot or straight for over 60 women. Got 2 pair when they had 40% off. They fit great. So comfortable too. Try if you have not already. May even be a brand for younger women who like the higher waist.

  5. I did get inspired to shop my closet after this post but I got the most inspiration from the shoes… oh my gosh..

  6. Love the outfit and wow nice shoes. Such a different color as we do tend to stay neutral or go to the silvers or golds. I have a pair of red wedges with the blue /white heel( very nautical looking) but haven’t worn them in ages. They just stay in the bottom of the shoe bin. Also love the tie knot top. I had bought one in a short sleeve but returned it because the front was just too full the way it hung and felt like it added extra weight. Oh well maybe a xs would have been better. I’ll keep trying as I love that look.

  7. Those shoes!! They look awesome with your pedicure and I’m thinking they would look wonderful with a red dress.

  8. Where is the red knot top from?  I didn’t see that on your page.  I’d love to see if I can find it.  💕
