Red, White & Blue Edit: Fashion for the 4th

Good morning, friends! I was planning a different post for today, but I didn’t get approval yet from my sponsor, so I whipped up this Red, White & Blue Edit for your 4th of July fashion inspiration.

one // two // three // four // five // six // seven // eight // nine // ten // eleven // twelve

We’re having a pool party for the 4th and combining it with my 50th birthday party, so I definitely plan to look festive. I haven’t finalized my outfit yet, but I’m thinking about it. Meanwhile, I hope this little collage gets your creative juices flowing!

What To Wear for the 4th

one // This red maxi dress is just begging for blue and white accessories to complete your patriotic outfit. It’s cool and comfortable, and it runs true to size.

two // I love wearing white and denim and accessorizing with red, and these red raffia statement earrings would make the perfect completer piece.

three // White Birks will look good with just about any casual red, white, and blue outfit, and they’ll be comfortable all day long. Perfect for those going to a 4th of July parade or a fireworks show where there will be lots of walking involved.

four // Planning to spend the 4th by the pool? This navy and white striped suit is just the ticket! Top it off with a sheer white coverup and paint your nails with OPI Big Apple Red!

five // This cute little straw bag makes a subtle nod to the American flag with the red, white & blue scarf tied on the handle.

six // Like I said above, I often wear blue and white for patriotic holidays, and a red nail is a great way to add a pop of red to your ensemble without looking too much like a walking American flag.

seven // Just a nice, simple white tee to pair with denim shorts, or dress it up with a pair of red sailor shorts.

eight // And these are the perfect cut-off denim shorts I keep mentioning. These have a 4″ inseam and run true to size. Need a longer pair? Try these.

nine // These white puffy slides are right on trend, and they pair perfectly with dresses and dressy shorts. They would look great with that red maxi dress (#1 above.)

ten // I love how they paired this tie front cami with white cut-off denim shorts. Such a fun, summery look for a backyard BBQ or parade.

I would wear the rattan earrings (#11) and carry the Mar Y Sol stripe tote (#12) to complete the look.

eleven // I like adding natural elements to a red, white & blue outfit — or really any summer outfit. These rattan earrings are a nice way to add a summery element when you don’t want more color.

twelve // I’ve always been drawn to these Mar Y Sol totes, and I finally got myself one for a great deal at Saks OFF 5th. Unfortunately, the one I bought sold out, but this blue and white one is perfect for the 4th, but of course you can carry it all summer long.

  1. Well that will be a great celebration! Welcome to the fifties:) we of course don’t have the 4th of July but Canada Day (July 1)so these ideas can still work using the red and white!
    Have a great day!

  2. All the 4th of July posts work out nicely for us Canadians as well since our country’s birthday is July 1…just remove the blue aspects and red and white it is for Canada Day.
As for Lancaster County- I’ve been there many times with my job as a Tour Director and you can never go wrong with a show at Sights and Sounds Theater. The Riehl farm shop is also very nice and of course Kitchen Kettle Village.

    1. Oh good point, I hadn’t thought of Canada Day. Sorry, it just isn’t on my radar, but I should remember to mention that too in my future 4th of July posts. And July 1 is also my birthday! 🙂

      1. Happy Birthday to you – one year you should make that trip to Old Quebec City or Niagara Falls for your birthday – they will roll out the fireworks for you…lol…since it would be a fun joint celebration lol.
Also…50….ok Jolynne – you MUST make Paris work this fall…what a great way to celebrate the beginning of the decade for you!!!!!

        1. Quebec City is definitely on my bucket list. The year my Paris trip was canceled due to Covid, Becca was supposed to go to Quebec and Montreal with her 8th grade French class. Of course, it was also #canceled. She was so disappointed. Covid… the gift that keeps on giving!

  3. I liked how cute-yet-classy the nautical pattern of that suit was (and, with the Birks as well as the number 12 big tote!), but: (unfortunately — ugghh!) when I saw the back of it being all thin spaghetti straps, I knew it would not do my backfat any favors (sigh! — and: I have, actually, just gotten back down to a 10 after two years; my cravings for budget chocolate snacking, I realized, were the thing contributing to my pandemic weight gain and also making my skin frequently break out — so I just stopped it cold because I was more tired of dealing with the allergic intolerance reaction from it while, the weight loss turned out as an added bonus!).

      1. It would have been a riot, lol!, to have shown one of those string bikinis like an American flag(!). THAT would’ve covered all the bases (but not much else — ahem!). Thanks for your blog!

  4. I really enjoyed your post and fun ideas for the 4th! I was wondering if the Catherine Boyfriend Jean Shorts run TTS? Sometimes ‘boyfriend’ translates to baggy on me. Thank you!

  5. Love dressing in red/white/blue! Thanks for the inspiration. As for Lancaster, we were just there last weekend to see DAVID at Sight and Sound. It’s a time commitment, but excellent! Doubt if you could tickets this late ☹️ Is your dad a train enthusiast? Strasburg would be a must with train museum. We ate at the Casey Jones Restaurant and walked around the cute Main Street of Strasburg. So picturesque.

  6. Take your dad to the Sight and Sound Theater in Lancaster to see “David”. Just got back. It was awesome and will not disappoint.

  7. Wellllll, Happy B’day to you coming and how fun to have a big pool party celebration for you and the 4th of July. Love all your patriotic post. I tend to do denim, white with pop of red or navy top. I wish you could have done your Paris trip, but when you do, I’m sure it will be the perfect timing. Covid for sure keeps on giving in our family. My grown daughter just got it yesterday. 🙁 She has a really bad immune system, so I’m pretty concerned for her. We were suppose to go there this weekend for Father’s Day….they live 3 hrs. from us……but of course now we can’t. She had an endoscopy procedure scheduled for Tues. for her stomach from her immune problems worsening and we were staying through then to watch our grandson. I’m really sad for her and I was so looking forward to seeing my grandson. I haven’t seen him since the first weekend in May. He’s 2 yrs. old. I can’t tell you the trips we have had to cancel to see my kids/grands because one of us has had covid. Now all 11 of us have, so hoping no redo’s. Thanks for your great post as always. Always enjoy opening my mail and seeing you. How are you feeling?

    1. I’m so sorry to hear that. How we have avoided it thus far is beyond me. It seems to be everywhere. I hope she doesn’t have it too badly. I’m feeling better every day!
