Saturday Morning Coffee Talk

coffee-talk-2015

Today I get to pick up my baby from sleepaway camp! I am so excited. I have to admit, this week has been so busy, I haven’t really had time to miss her, and I hope she has had the same experience. She was nervous to go away for the first time, but she really wanted to do it, and she’s with a good friend so I’m sure she did fine. I just can’t wait to hear all about it.

I feel like I should have a lot to share with you since I haven’t written one of those posts in a while, but I can’t even remember what I’ve done this week, it’s been such a blur. I’m kind of feeling burned out, to be honest. I’ve been debating some ideas and different directions to take my blog, but at the end of the day, I think I’m just burned out and need a break — which is crazy because I just had a long vacation when I didn’t work much at all. And we are headed into the busiest time of year, so I think I’m just going to have to buck up.

I have had some fun this week, though. I went to the mall with a friend for the first time in ages. I like the ease of online shopping, but there’s nothing like going to the mall and getting into the stores to get a tab on the latest trends and how people are wearing things, and there’s just something about the cool tranquility of the shopping mall on a weekday that makes me happy. That probably doesn’t say a lot for my character, but there you have it.

The weather has also been glorious this week, so we’ve enjoyed taking some of our dinners outside on the deck. That’s been nice.

Band camp is in full swing for my teenage son, and that’s been… interesting! He got bumped up to the tenor drum (as a sophomore, that’s pretty unusual, but they needed one more, and they chose him.) It’s an honor, but it’s turning out to be quite challenging as well. He’s been going to practice early and staying late to work on his part with the other tenor drummers. I hope they get the hang of it soon.

My older daughter is getting prepared to start middle school (hold me!) and my younger one… well, she’s been at camp. While she was away, we did a little bedroom makover for her, and I can’t wait for her to see it.

So yeah, that’s about it for me! Life is good. I can’t complain. What are y’all up to on this fine August weekend!??

  1. It’s my last weekend before I go back to work on Monday morning! A week of inservice and getting ready before the kids come in! Trying to get the house straightened up and all my work clothes ready…yippee. So excited that the temp here only got to the upper 90’s yesterday!

    1. You’re probably right. 🙂 I do love summer, though. I hate to think of it being over, but on the other hand, I think the routine of fall will give me a good refresh.

  2. I get an actual weekend this weekend! Off today and headed to a friend’s party in a minute, and then off again tomorrow for hubby’s family reunion. And now I hear possibly breakfast with a different friend on Monday to celebrate a birthday before going back to work Monday afternoon. Should be fun!

  3. Your blog is one of my faves. I read just about everything you post and I look forward to the fall/seasonal posts. Be encouraged! Your readers wouldn’t enjoy it if you took a break (unless your family needs you to, of course).

    1. Aw, thanks, Yolanda. I’m not going to take a break, but I’ve been toying with narrowing my focus a bit. I guess I’m just feeling pulled in so many directions — fashion, food, family, travel, etc. I dunno. Maybe I just need for school to start, lol. But I really love summer. I am not wishing it away. There is just a lot to balance, and the kids are at an age where they are independent, and yet they sort of take over and the house doesn’t feel like my own anymore. It think that’s why purging and organizing felt so good. 🙂
