Saturday Morning Coffee Talk

Last night was my daughter’s 10th birthday party. That’s one down, two to go! All three of my children have fall birthdays, so I usually feel like I’m running a marathon from now until Christmas.

This is a big year for all three of them. They’re turning 16, 13, and 10! Usually they take turns having big birthday celebrations, but this year we want to do something extra special for each one of them. Fortunately, they each have a very different idea of what “extra special” means, and my youngest is the only one who wanted a full-on birthday party. I think it is safe to say that a full-on birthday party is what she got!

I have a strict policy about never having a birthday party in my home. I also try not to spend a ton on pricey birthday party venues, but this year I decided to make like Elsa and let it go…

No, I did not have the party at home. I’m not that crazy. I went ahead and reserved a spa and dance party at a local party venue. R has been to many parties at this place over the years, but she’s never had her own. She was over the moon when I told her about my idea. She has been eagerly anticipating this evening for weeks.

Well, last night was The Night, and 7 of her friends came out in the rain to celebrate with her. They had an absolute blast. They each got to pick out a fancy dress to wear. Then they had facials, hand treatments, and nail polish. After that they danced and walked the runway. It was loud, it was fun, and it was VERY pink.

Here are a few of my favorite pictures of the birthday girl. She is a total ham, this one.

My goals for today are to recover from last night and clean out our master bedroom closet. Then tonight we have a family reunion to attend, and we hope to get back home in time to see my son’s high school band perform at their cavalcade at 9:15. Here’s hoping the wind and rain calm down. Right now it looks like a nasty day for outdoor activities.

I hope you have a restful and productive Saturday!

  1. L-O-V-E the cake!! I started playing piano @ age 6 & am still “tickling the ivories ” @ 58! My my children also have fall birthday’s. Wish there had been something like the spa venue around when they were little. Both are girls & getting ready to turn 21 & 27! How time flies!
Thanks so much for joining Cyndi in the 26 days of fashion. I have just joined your blog, am from the south (nc) , and started running about 2 yrs. ago. Look forward to checking in everyday!

  2. What a cute party theme and venue! It looks like your daughter had a very special birthday and the time of her life!

  3. Your daughter is a natural model, just like her mama! It looks like it was a fun party and I love the cake (I am also a pianist). I have really enjoyed your 26 days of fall outfits. I have ordered a gray leopard scarf, an olive utility jacket and striped long sleeve shirt because I liked the outfits you put together and thought these would be good pieces to add to what I already had in my wardrobe. I will wear the leopard scarf with some gray and plum like you had and I liked the utility jacket with the striped shirt as well. I can see the utility jacket going with a lot of different shirts I have. I have only been following your blog for a short time, but I get great fashion inspiration from your outfits and look forward to more in the future. Thanks for sharing!

  4. What a special and fun 10th birthday celebration! Your daughter is a doll! I love the very last photo you posted. The cake is beautiful!

I hope y’all are having a blessed weekend!

  5. Looks like a great time was had by all. Love the cake! And the pic of her with her hands by her face which is aglow from the candles on the cake is so special. These are memories your children will hold close to their hearts! Enjoy!!!

  6. Love the cake. It is just about the best I have ever seen. I played the piano all during my childhood. I have never regretted it.

Curious about why no party at your home. I am the child of a Pastor. I grew up with people always in our home and have done so as a married woman. Am I missing something here?

    1. Oh, I entertain for other things, but something about throwing a kid birthday party is more than my nerves can take. 🙂 The pressure, the planning, the corralling of children, the mess, the noise… LOL!! I host church events and neighborhood gatherings and small get togethers with friends and family. But big holidays and kid birthday parties stress me out! 🙂

  7. What a beautiful birthday cake! Your daughter is cute. It looks like she truly enjoyed her birthday party 🙂
