Saturday Morning Coffee Talk

Whew! What a WEEK. We arrived home late Monday night from Arizona. Fortunately it was a fairly uneventful trip home, despite all the drama of the week in Scottsdale. I still can’t wait to tell you all about the resort, but that’s a post for another time.

My son stayed home on Tuesday to recuperate, although he was feeling much better by then. I have spent the week trying to catch up on work and laundry, but I haven’t been feeling so well, myself.

I admit to spending a couple mornings curled up on the couch binge-watching the first season of When Calls The Heart. It’s a show on the Hallmark channel, loosely based on a series of books I read several times over when I was a teenager. Did anyone else read those? They were written by Janette Oke. I just learned about the TV show, and Season 2 starts in a few weeks so I’m trying to catch up.

In other news, I am just trying to stave of seasonal depressive disorder. The weather this week had been horrendous. I hate April. This is my least favorite time of year to live in Pennsylvania. It seems like spring should be here by now, but it feels more like November.

Today the sun is shining, at least, but the wind sounds dreadful. I know it will get warmer. It always does. But right about now, it seems like it never will.

I’m hoping to feel caught up by the end of the weekend so next week I can start working ahead again. I actually have ANOTHER trip to Arizona planned. I’m headed back to Phoenix for a blogging conference in less than three weeks. I’m half dreading it and half looking forward to it. I hope I can make some fresh, happy memories because right now the area invokes some mixed emotions. I’m sure that’s normal after everything last week, but it makes me sad because I love it out there.

I’ll be staying at the Phoenician this time, which I hear is fabulous. I can’t wait to compare it to the Hyatt Regency, where we stayed last week. I’ll be writing up a post about each for my Travel section.

And that’s about all I’ve got. I need to get upstairs and make something of myself. I’m still sitting around in my pajamas. Sometimes it’s nice to have a lazy day, but I’ve had too many of those this week, and I’m ready to get back to normal.

Have a lovely weekend!

  1. Hoping that your weather improves soon. Here in WI, it is the same way. Enjoy the sunshine when you can! I actually cheered when we saw the sun yesterday! I can’t believe that you’ve read Janette Oke too! She’s been one of my favorites since 5th grade. I’ve read every one of her books at different times in my life and loved each for different reasons. I will have to check out the show, I need something new! Glad you’re home safely and that when AZ arrives again, you’re ready. Have a great day!

  2. Hmm…I will have to check out When Calls The Heart – it sounds like something I would enjoy. I followed your Arizona trip on IG, and I’m so, so sorry that your son was sick. That’s always one of my worst fears when we plan a vacation. Glad he’s feeling better and glad that no one else got sick. It’s pretty wet and windy here today too, and we’re headed outside for a track meet. Yuck! Have a good weekend!

  3. I read the When Calls the Heart series several times over. By far my favorite Janette Oke series. I love everything about those books. I always thought Wynn was so dreamy (even though that’s really a 60s term and I’m a child of the 70s). ☺ I was so sad when the series ended. I just reread the series a couple of years ago on flights to and from Alaska because planning the trip Alaska brought a lot of my visualizations of those books to mind. I just saw that Janette Oke’s daughter Laurel wrote at least one book that actually goes with the TV series. I think I saw one episode of the series but I was expecting it to be about Wynn and Elizabeth and it was a disappointment when the characters were different. I should watch it anyway…I’m sure I would like it.

    1. Yeah, I was surprised the characters have different names. And the storyline is definitely embellished, but I guess it would have to be to make a TV series of it. In that respect, it is very Little House On the Prairie. I loved the TV show and the books, but they were different.

  4. I read those books when I was younger ! I know you said it was a Hallmark show but is the whole series on Netflix or the Hallmark channel?

I read all the “Calder” books too. SIGH. “This Calder Land” “Stands a Calder Man.”

So glad you are back from your trip. As someone who loves to travel, I just felt ill reading about the plague that descended on your trip! UGH.

    1. I bought Season One on iTunes. I haven’t heard of the Calder books. Are they good? I also loved the Love Comes Softly series.

Yeah, the trip was a total bust. It is still depressing to think about, but we are already planning our next one. 🙂

  5. You will love the Phoenician. Admittedly, I haven’t been there in years, but It is my favorite place to stay in AZ so far. Praying your weather funk disappears with more sunshine soon!

Thanks for the TV tip, too. I put When Calls the Heart on my Netflix list. Can’t wait to watch it!
