Saturday Morning #CoffeeTalk

Well, here we are. Another Saturday, another week behind us.

My 12-year-old said to me yesterday, “This year has gone pretty fast, but now every day seems like it will NEVER end.”

Ahhhh… childhood. I remember it well — those last few weeks of school before summer break. Every day was agonizing in its eternity.

But here I am, almost 43, mother of 3, running a business and a household, ready to start exploring colleges for my oldest, and the days seem to end before they begin. Life is weird, isn’t it??

This weekend my parents are in town, and we spent yesterday strolling through Longwood Gardens, where we took in sites like this.

It was the PERFECT day for it. The sky was blue. It was warm, but not hot. There was a gentle breeze. We even splurged on lunch in their 1906 Fine Dining Room, where we feasted on a lovely salad and this amazing chard wrapped trout.

It was nice to walk around the gardens and chat without the interruption of the kids. Here at home, it always seems so chaotic, with everyone needing something and talking over top of us.

In other news, I’m trying to get back on track with my clean eating. When I was in Arizona, I ballooned up like a blowfish. I came home incredibly bloated with swollen ankles. I don’t know if it was the flight, the heat and altitude in Scottsdale, certain monthly hormones, or a combination of all of that, but for a few days I was wondering if there was a medical issue I should have checked out.

Then, I suddenly deflated and it all went away. Bizarre. Maybe it’s just age, but I can’t help but wonder what was going on. I guess I just have to wait and see if it happens again.

Meanwhile, I’ve gone back to wearing my FitBit and keeping track of my diet on MyFitnessPal, and I’m trying to avoid sugar, processed carbs and alcohol while I get myself back on track. Good times!

I sure do miss the days when I could eat what I want, diet for a couple days, and be right back where I started. Getting old is for the birds, but as my mother always says, “It beats the alternative.” Truer words were never spoken.

I’ll leave you with this gorgeous photo of wisteria from Longwood. I took tons of photos, but this is one of my faves.

I know that this weekend can be hard for some. Some have strained relationships that make this weekend difficult, some have lost their mothers, and some wish desperately for children, but no matter how you view this holiday, I hope you have a beautiful weekend.

We are just starting on the “finding a college” journey. I have ordered the newest college guides, and am working on possible day trips to visit this summer.

How the heck did that happen?!?

In any case, it will be an interesting journey!

    Happy Mother’s Day to you!
