Saturday Morning #CoffeeTalk

coffee talk

I’ve once again started waking at the ungodly hour of 4am. I don’t know what is going on with me. Maybe it’s just age? I suppose I shouldn’t complain. I feel like I get a lot done in those wee morning hours, but then I’m ready to crash by 7pm so I don’t know that the trade-off is worth it.

Re-entry from our Turks & Caicos adventure hasn’t exactly been rough, but then again, yesterday was the first day I wore makeup or dressed in pants that buttoned since I got home so I’ve certainly been in recovery mode.

Did you see my Beaches Turks and Caicos Review? If you’ve been considering it, you might find my experience helpful.

Last night we went out to dinner with friends at one of our favorite restaurants, the Birchrunville Store Cafe. It was nice to hang out and relax and have really good food and wine. I had an arugula salad with goat cheese croquettes, a crab cake that was swimming in this delectable lobster bisque, and then for dinner I had a venison dish. I think that was my first experience with venison, and it was lovely. I wanted to take photos, but it was too dark inside the restaurant. Bah.

It occurred to me that I should start writing restaurant reviews. I know that not a large part of my audience is local, but there is definitely a local contingent and it would be a nice addition to my travel section. Is there any interest in that?

Speaking of local interests…. okay that was a rough segue, but anyway.

Newsies is coming to Broadway Philadelphia this week at the Academy of Music downtown. Funny, I was just this week looking at what was coming up because I often buy show tickets for Christmas gifts, and then yesterday I got invited to go.

Again, I know this is only really relevant to local peeps, but if you’re interested, there’s a special Kids Night on Friday 10/31 and you can save 50% on select seats. This is a great way to take the family without breaking the bank. Kids Night is hosted by BEN-FM’s Marilyn Russell on the steps of the Academy featuring a photo booth, Halloween goodies and a performance by dancers from the Philadelphia High School for Creative and Performing Arts. Use THIS LINK to get 50% off. This brings the tickets down to $45 each. That’s a steal, yo.

If you’re not familiar with Newsies, here’s what they say:

They delivered the papers, until they made the headlines… Direct from Broadway comes Newsies, the smash-hit, crowd-pleasing new musical from Disney. Winner of the 2012 Tony Awards® for Best Score and Best Choreography, Newsies, has audiences and critics alike calling it “a musical worth singing about!” (The New York Times) Filled with one heart-pounding number after another, it’s a high-energy explosion of song and dance you just don’t want to miss.

Based on true events, Newsies tells the captivating story of a band of underdogs who become unlikely heroes when they stand up to the most powerful men in New York. It’s a rousing tale about fighting for what’s right…and staying true to who you are. Newsies was brought to the stage by an award-winning creative team. It features a score by Alan Menken (Beauty and the Beast) and Jack Feldman (The Lion King II: Simba’s Pride) and a book by Harvey Fierstein (La Cage Aux Folles), with choreography by Christopher Gattelli (South Pacific) and direction by Jeff Calhoun (Big River).

In other news, I posted my 2014 blog reader survey yesterday. I shared it over on my Facebook page. If you’re following me there and didn’t see it, be sure you have clicked “Get Notifications” so Facebook knows you want to see it in your feed. Facebook is stingy with what they show in your feed… did you know that? You don’t see every post by every page you “like” — and you will up your chances of seeing my posts if you have clicked “Get Notifications.”

So anyway, if you have 5 minutes to take my survey, I’d really appreciate it.

Finally, I wrapped up my eBay guides this week! Whew! That was a project. There are 20 total — I don’t know why it only lists 19. I have 20 in my spreadsheet. Hmmm… Anyway, I hope you enjoy them! The last one I did was on Must Have Boots for Fall. That was a fun one.

I’m always amazed at what you can find on eBay, and much of it is brand new. Which reminds me, I have some handbags I want to put up for sale. That sounds like a good Saturday project, dontcha think?

Between that and the Halloween decorating that I promised my kids, I will have a full day.

  1. Yes to restaurant reviews! I feel like we end up going to the same places all the time, and half of them places where I feel like I could have just made the same thing at home and saved my money. If I had my way we’d go out less often to nicer places. But, then of course there is the 15 month old, so she does limit our options somewhat.

  2. I’m right there with you wide awake at 4:00 AM! No matter what time I go to bed, the past few nights, I wake up at 4. I don’t get up, I lie that and think about all the things I have to do for the day (I teach kindergarten). My mom is going to see Newsies when they come to Toledo in a few weeks.

    1. What is UP with that!? I have been getting up, but I can nap later on if I need to. Which I rarely do but sometimes…. in fact, this morning I went back to bed for a couple of hours. I’ll be curious to hear how your mom likes Newsies!
