Scarf Weather

Scarf weather is finally here, and for a girl who hates to be cold, I’m kind of surprised by how excited I am about it! I think fashion blogging has changed me. It’s so much more fun to style fall and winter outfits because you can add layers and patterns and textures.

I know I’ve been saying I’m going to focus on holiday party looks this week, but this probably isn’t something I’d wear to a holiday party — at least not with the brown ankle boots. I haven’t been able to shoot all the looks I had been planning to, and a couple of things sold out (like a great red cardigan… boo!) so bear with me. I will have some more holiday party looks, but for today, this is more of a dressed-up casual winter look that I might wear to the mall or for running errands on a chilly day.

I pretty much styled this outfit around this gorgeous scarf. Best of all, it’s only $19.50! It comes in a bunch of other colors too, but I really loved this combination of navy blue, pink, and white. It’s super soft, and I like how it’s long but not too wide so it’s easy to wrap around your neck and go. Some scarves I have are so bulky, it’s hard to style them, but this one is very wearable.

This off-white sweater is from Madewell via Nordstrom. It’s carried at both retailers, and before the weekend it was fully stocked, but now I’m noticing the sizes are really picked over. It is pretty slouchy and probably doesn’t create the most flattering silhouette, but sometimes I’m willing to overlook that for other details — like the perfect v-neckline, the pretty knit details.

I’ve actually been wearing this sweater quite a lot. I wore it on Thanksgiving with skinny jeans and leopard flats, and I’ve also worn it with my olive green skinnies, but it also works well with these bootcut jeans because they help balance out the extra volume in the sweater.

I always wear bootcut jeans with heels, so I pulled out these brown suede ankle boots from last year because they’re the perfect height. I realize you can hardly even see them in these pictures, but that’s fine because they’re no longer available anyway. I’ll link up some similar options below.

My pink bag is also old so I don’t feature it often, but I thought it was the perfect addition to this outfit. I love how it coordinates with the scarf.

I got mine for a steal on a mega clearance sale a couple years ago, and now the only thing I can find in the same color is this cutie. I’m sure there are other fuchsia handbags out there, but the blush and burgundy tones have really taken over in popularity.

Without the scarf, this outfit is fine, but I think the scarf adds the perfect finishing touch!

  1. Love the scarf – wish we had more scarf weather here. 🙂 A post with last minute gift ideas would be good or stocking stuffers for all different age groups. Thanks!

  2. I agree – stocking stuffers for men and teens would be great! We are trying something new this year in an effort to not spend so much over the holidays – would love to see ideas for baked goods/plates cookies or treats to bring when we visit our families over the holidays!

  3. I love that scarf idea for my hairdresser. Good price too. She has red hair so what do you think the best color is. They don’t usually wear red or pink.

    1. I’m a redhead, Mary. The green blue is beautiful and would go great with her hair, but so is the navy. Because it’s just a pop of pink, the no red or pink doesn’t apply. What a great gift idea.

  4. Such a pretty scarf! I I think I’m going to have to order it at that price! I would never have thought If carrying a fuchsia handbag in the winter but it looks great! I own a fuchsia Dooney & Bourke plus all the other elements in this outfit so I’ll add the scarf and have a fun outfit to wear in January and February! Be blessed today and have fun being pampered!

  5. I absolutely love this outfit! The colors look gorgeous! What is the name of your bag so I can look on EBay or Poshmark? Thanks sweet lady!

  6. beautiful outfit! that color is gorgeous on you…and since I’m a fair-skinned brunette also it should look pretty darn good on me too!

  7. Loving the bag – I seem to put my more colorful purses away for the winter. I am digging them out again.
I enjoyed the tween/teenager gift ideas — any other ideas would be great.

  8. I guess I need to go up in the attic and pull out my fuschia purse.  Dang how I wish my neck didn’t get hot so easily, so I could use scarfs to jazz up an outfit!  And that sweater is fabulous.  Enjoy being pampered today!  You have definitely earned it!

  9. So glad to see you back in jeans and a sweater. I love the holiday looks but don’t get to many holiday parties anymore, so glad you styled a cozy scarve today. I have had two cream petite sweaters in my cart for a few days and you inspired me to order them today. There’s just so many ways to wear them and they are a basic fall/winter item you can dress up or with jeans. Thanks for the inspiration and enjoy your pampering today ????

  10. Love the scarf!

For a girl that hates to be cold you’re not living in the right place.  ????. LOL  But I’d bet the Fall there is to die for  and so worth it!

    1. So true!!! I have only moved north. I grew up in VA, went to MA for college, then got married and settled in PA. I’ve always thought I’d like living in NC or SC where they still get fall and winter but spring comes early.

  11. Love the scarf! I always feel like they take over my body, but I love how you have it around your neck. Darling! Stocking stuffer ideas would be great for a sister, teen, man!

  12. Um…wow…these photographs are just beautiful! You’re so lovely.
Oh yeah, and the outfit is pretty great too. That sweater would be a great addition to my winter wardrobe. I already own three sweaters in that shade but as far as I am concerned a girl can always use another cream colored sweater.???? And I have only mentioned this a hundred times but boot cut jeans are my favorite so all in all this was a pretty exciting read!
    Enjoy your day!

  13. I love this outfit!  I’m even willing to accept that you’re wearing bootcut jeans, because it ties together so well :).  Is the scarf itchy at all?  When I click on the website it links to a scarf that says it is navy – is that what you’re wearing?  I like navy, but I would prefer the lighter color it looks like you are wearing in the pictures.  Also, that sweater looks great on you.  I think I have the same one, although mine is a weird pinkish color.  Yes it’s shapeless, but I don’t think it’s unflattering at all, especially with more fitted pants.

    1. Too funny, most people tell me I wear way too many skinnies. 🙂 The scarf is super soft, not at all scratchy. And it’s navy, I think the pictures might make it look lighter than it is.

  14. Beautiful outfit. I love it all. Thanks for styling a bright colored handbag, I am not good at thinking about my handbags as accessories, but they can really make a difference!

  15. Hi Hi — I’m not finding these: (also check out DL1961 Bridget Bootcut at 50% off) when I check the link the Holly Wash is showing a discount; but not close to 50%…. Have a beautiful day!

    1. oh my — nevermind; it just took going to the end & typing the discount code; my apologies — you can cancel my question 🙂 BGR

  16. Oh My……Love scarves.  You are killing me. I’ve been trying to be good and not order anymore for me right now.  I had 2 items in my Loft cart last night and almost ordered them 2 times and then didn’t. 🙂 LOL  I have been looking at the White Juniper color scarf you are styling.  I have so many times almost ordered it for that price, but if you saw my closet full of scarves. I really don’t need another one.  I’m short 5’3″, so I don’t like really big, bulky ones. You mentioned this one isn’t?  Do you have it wrapped twice?  I think it would be fun for you to do a video for us on scarf tying.  🙂  Also, I’m looking for a forest green cardigan.  Do you know of any?  I’ve looked but can’t find one.  Not too long.  I have a navy, forest plaid blouse I don’t wear much, as it needs a sweater. I probably should have just ordered my Loft order last night.  It had a Winter White fleece coat.  Would really lighten up the blouse.  Okay…I better end and maybe go order.  Ha Ha.  Thanks Jo-Lynne……love your look. I agree with the other lady.  The last picture is so beautiful of you.  :

    1. Yes, this scarf isn’t as wide or thick as some. It’s nice. I do think a video on scarf tying would be good – maybe a FB Live. I poked around for a forest green cardigan and didn’t really find much. You’d think that would be easy!

  17. Lovely! Your pictures are just amazing. Whoever photographs you is doing a great job, too. 🙂 Thanks for all you pour into your blog – just a treat everyday! 🙂

  18. Love the look. I really like blue with fuscia/purple/pink/lavender etc. In fact, I’m wearing white jeans with a long denim blue sweater today with fuscia shoes and all those colors in a scarf. It makes me happy.

If you’re looking for another gift guide to do (and I’ve really enjoyed the others), I’m always struggling with what to get office mates. I don’t work with anyone, but I do have some volunteers I’d like to get gifts for. And I always need to get something for my husband’s staff – secretaries, custodians, fellow ministers, etc. So I’d really like some suggestions for co-workers, I guess. 🙂

  19. I love this look for everyday, and I think the bootcut jeans really flatter your cute figure.
Thanks for trying to make us all happy 🙂  blessings

  20. Loving that scarf! The pink it really lights up your face.
A hair cut and nails on the same day is my idea of pampering. ???? You’re definitely having a more fun day than I.

  21. I love the pink purse, though I do also love burgundy and blush.  A gift guide covering best beauty buys would be great if you can fit it in!  Thank you!

  22. A pink purse is always a good idea, if you ask me. 🙂

My suggestion is gifts for teachers. I have to get something for the kids’ classroom teachers, piano teacher, choir directors, etc. I hate to give chocolate/cocoa/food gifts or nice candles again because I did that last year–and you never know if someone can’t have sugar or gluten or whatever.

  23. I would love any ideas you have for belts.  There are just those pants that continually need to be pulled up unless you are wearing a belt.  Mine are outdated and I am not sure what the style is nowadays.  Thanks for all you do!

    1. Hm. I’ll see what I find. I don’t really wear them, but a lot of bloggers are tucking in and wearing logo belts now. Not that you want do to that, lol. It seems like they’re fairly conservative otherwise.

Like this is a nice one — not too thin, not too thick, not too $$$ 🙂 https://rstyle.me/n/cvckt5gthw

This black one is nice — https://rstyle.me/n/cvckwbgthw

A leopard belt is always fun to have. I always forget to wear mine, but I like it: https://rstyle.me/n/cvckvtgthw

  24. Jolynne, beautiful pictures of you!!!  You really need to get a print of the closeup and frame it.  That’s a keepsake!   Love the fashion look too.  Perfection!

  25. I love that scarf! And I have banned myself from buying anymore scarves, but you know I have that pink bag too….so I might have to break the ban. I still need to find a couple of yankee swap gifts in the $25 range but have not had any luck finding something fun or nice enough, yet I can certainly find plenty of gifts to give myself! LOL!
