Score!

After moaning and groaning about the disappointing clothing options for my 5-year-old, I struck gold at the Gap outlet this week.  I found a cute Christmas outfit, a couple of cute dresses for church, and some tops that don’t require layering!  YAY!  The Gap usually comes through for me.  It just took them a little bit longer this year.

Yesterday I spent the day shopping and chatting and lunching with one of my oldest and dearest friends, D from Forty b4 Forty.  Despite the monsoon that ambushed us, we had a very successful day at the outlets.  Successful for me was NOT spending much oney, and I did quite well, if I do say so myself.  My husband has been reading D Ramsey (Do NOT allow your husband to read D Ramsey, this is a very dangerous book.  No really, I jest, but he doesn’t exactly encourage shopping, which is my favorite hobby after blogging, which fortunately is free, but I digress.) so we are trying to follow the rules which basically means NO FUN until we clear our credit cards and beef up our savings.  So I did a lot of looking and not touching.  Okay, so I touched, but I didn’t buy, so that was good.

But really, the point of the day was to visit and to get away from our collective six kids for some quality girl time, and that is exactly what we did.  We started and ended our day at Panera’s.  I’m afraid I’m a very bad influence because we had a couple of very South Beach UN-friendly desserts and lattes as we sat and chatted like two magpies for hours while it poured rain outside.  I hope D will forgive me for sabotaging her diet.  She’s been doing so well!

In other news, this week I will be live blogging the Generation Huggies events as the Huggies Mobile makes its final stop in Philadelphia!  Follow me on Twitter and in the Generation Huggies Philly circle at The Motherhood to find out the exact locations.  If you’re in the area, I hope you can come on down, say hi, and record a 60-second video about motherhood for your chance to participate in Huggies’ 30th Anniversary ad campaign.  If you’re too shy to record a video, you can enter the sweepstakes to win $30,000.  I mean, who couldn’t use $30,000?

If you’re not a local, you can still follow all the fun at The
Motherhood.  I’ll be posting photos and voice clips throughout the day,
and you can join in by leaving me a comment!  And you do not have to find a Huggies mobile if you want to make a
video and enter the contest.  You can make a video at home and upload
it directly to the Generation Huggies website.

Meanwhile, enjoy all the giveaways throughout the blogosphere this week.  I have a giveaway scheduled for every single day (and don’t miss the one I posted yesterday for Paper Shouts) so don’t go too far!

  1. What fun What Fun! I love to shop. I do most of my shopping online and promptly return what I don’t want or doesn’t fit. I find really great deals this way. Plus I tend to think more about what I buy…I put it in my cart, shop more cart more, review cart – delete stuff…Pick a total price point delete more stuff…and order!
In the middle of figuring out christmas now…trying to Juggle American Girl ($$$), Fish? (AHHHH) and Ballet stuff for my oldest. Is Christmas really just 9 weeks away?
I digress…sorry your blog was NOT about my holiday shopping…I am just in a mood!

  2. I am still recovering from the overload but had a great time. After Saturday I have decided to delay my weekly weigh-in…is that cheating?

  3. I feel your Dave Ramsey pain. My hubby discovered him a little over a year ago. He got so excited that he is now teaching the Financial Peace University class at our church! I hope your hubs doesn’t go to this extreme.

We use only cash or debit card for every purchase and we now have a budget that we do our best to stick to. I have to admit that it has helped. We have cut our (considerable) debt more than in half in a little over a year. Just know that you are not alone!

  4. I am glad you had such a fun day with your friend! Aren’t girlfriends the best? I am scared of Dave Ramsey too : ). Except at our house, my husband is the spender. I am just afraid to see how much money we are supposed to have in an emergency fund because I am pretty sure what we have isn’t enough… 0$ : )

  5. You know, I took my 15 year old daughter to Macy’s the other day and was shocked we could barely find anything appropriate. One sweatshirt/jacket that she desperately wanted only for me to find out it was $79 while paying for it! We then went to Kohl’s which has great stuff. Have you ever tried them? I always have great success there…don’t know what I was thinking going to Macy’s for her!!! The jacket we did buy, which at first I said no, is almost like a coat so I’m trying to justify the crazy high price being that any teenager refuses to wear coats even when it’s zero degrees outside…I learned this last year when I would make her put her coat on only to find have my son find it on the porch as he was heading out to school an hour later! Glad you found some things!

  6. Congrats on your luck at the Gap Outlet. You aren’t referring to the Grove City Outlets, by any chance??
We’ve been working with Dave Ramsey’s plan for about 9 months now. We’ve paid off 2 credit cards, our one and only car, and emptied our emergency savings and replenished it 3 times Not to mention the budget. We’re down to just school loans (we still rent). We’ve really seen the Lord bless our family b/c of the decision not to owe a man anything. Coming from a MAC make-up, Ann Taylor dressed, nails and toes ALWAYS done girl, this has taken some (read TITANIC PORTIONS of) adjustment, but it is worth it.
    Enjoy your day today!
