Short Sleeve Sweater Outfit

Happy hump day, friends! Today I’m styling a short sleeve sweater outfit for a summer date night or girls’ night out.

Short Sleeve Sweater Outfit

This sweater was sold out for a while, but now it’s back and 50% off at LOFT.

I guess they got a bunch of returns or worked out some kinks in their production and distribution systems. Since COVID, I’ve noticed this happening a lot, so I held onto these pictures, and sure enough, it’s back in stock in all sizes!

It has a modest v-neck and cap sleeves, and at 23″ long, it’s the perfect length for leaving untucked.

I also like how it’s cut in the back, with a small v-neck. I have this sweater in the small, but you could size up for a more relaxed fit.

These are my Madewell crop skinny jeans with the exposed button-fly, and they’re currently 33% off. They’re nice and thick with no show-through. These jeans have a 26 1/2″ inseam with an 11″ front rise, and they run true to size; I have the 28.

If you’re not a fan of white jeans, you could swap them out for black. I love olive and black together, as well.

In the summertime, when layering isn’t always practical, accessories are the easiest way to add interest to a simple outfit.

I wore simple diamond earrings, and then I added a statement necklace and one of my Victoria Emerson boho cuffs.

This Lucky Brand necklace is an old favorite, and I like how it fills the neckline on this sweater. My exact boho cuff sold out, but there are lots more to choose from.

I also carried my Clare V. leopard foldover clutch. I’ve had this bag for years, and it was a splurge for me at the time (although I did get it on sale) but I’m so glad I have it.

It’s such a gorgeous piece, and it elevates any simple outfit to date night chic.

Finally, my block heel sandals are from last summer, but they’re at Nordstrom Rack right now, and currently 72% off!

These are extremely comfortable and easy to walk in, and the straps are soft and flexible.

It’s hard for me to imagine having anywhere to go right now where this short sleeve sweater outfit might be appropriate, but I know things will look very different in a few weeks when our area is opened up.

Meanwhile, maybe I should just put this on to sip cocktails on the deck this weekend… why not, right?

Be sure to visit Cyndi and see the summer look she’s styling today!

  1. Thank you for continuing the 22 days of summer. I NEED this diversion more than ever. Everything about the current state of affairs is so sad. There’s enough media coverage, and opinions, that provide information that is factual, yet skewed and fear invoking. I NEED  you and Cyndi and you to continue sharing ideas for summer outfits.   This brings order, calm, hope and peace to my heart, especially now.
What a year this has been.

    1. Here here – no more politics. Please – just fashion and renovations, and puppy love, and kids or husbands, food, IF – anything but no politics!

      1. Hey Penny, I hear ya, but I don’t see what I shared as political. I was sharing my heart, my feelings on a situation we are all living in right now. While this blog is primarily about fashion, it’s also a place where I share my life and what’s on my heart. At least, that’s how it was intended. Thanks for letting me clarify. 🙂

  2. Beautiful outfit.  The green sweater is a nice change from the summer colors we usually see. As usual, your accessories are perfect!  Can’t wait until we can get dressed up again and head out for something …. anything!  Well said yesterday.  Strange times indeed.  I’m so happy you and Cyndi are doing your Summer Fashion series.  Need that feeling of normalcy, since we are at the farthest thing from it…..

  3. Totally love this look!  This is exactly the kind of thing I would wear to work during the summer. I’m on the fence about the button fly jeans….love the fit but do you fumble with the buttons??

So so glad to be back to your regular content.  Any normalcy right now is incredibly welcomed. I barely even recognize the world right now.

    1. Nancy– I have several pairs of the Madewell button blue jeans and they have become my favorite jeans for anything but the dressiest jean occasions. I don’t find the buttons to be an issue as far as getting them on or off and the line of buttons flattens my had-4-babies-and–post-menopausal belly nicely. I also think the buttons take an ordinary jeans and plain t-shirt outfit up a notch.

  4. Great outfit. Yes wear to sip cocktails. I’m going to meet friends for lunch today. Limited seating so I feel safe. Have a great day.

  5. Thank you for continuing the style series.  This is such a classic outfit inspiration.  I can shop my closet here and need to pull out all my jewelry and accessorize!

  6. Thank you for including the reason you chose the necklace (and earrings and bracelet) as I still struggle with what is the best necklace to wear for an outfit. Thank you for bringing normalcy to our daily lives but also thank you for not ignoring what is going on in the world.

  7. Thank you for continuing to post fashion. You and Cyndi provide a level of normalcy and routine to life that is indescribably comforting. COVID was bad, yet 2020/seems to hold no bounds as it continues its roll downhill.  In the grocery store I saw a poster for the new shingles shot. It reminded me that at the beginning of the year I was worried about getting a bad reaction (which I got with part I but not part II)  to the vaccine. I looked at that sign and thought “that was it?”  Wow!
So, yes, please continue to brighten my days with fashion finds. It provides us all with light at the end of this seemingly unending tunnel called 2020. You are appreciated so much.

  8. I did not comment yesterday but I too want to thank you. I appreciate that you want to maintain some normalcy with regular posts. But your comments about what’s happening in the world are always appropriate and unbiased. Keep it up Jo Lynne. We are slowly getting back out down here in New Orleans and its definitely nice, but a little scary too. Stay safe.
    😊 Courtney

  9. Awesome outfit. I think Olive is my favorite color (I am wearing it today – olive pants and a navy t-shirt with gold pineapples on it 🙂 ) I could totally recreate this look minus the purse. Thanks for the inspiration 🙂

  10. I always enjoy this kind of series and all the great outfits and styling tips that you provide. Your blog is always a bright spot in my day.
    And you look fabulous btw!

  11. Thank you for continuing the Summer Series today. I was upset and disheartened yesterday. No one is standing up for the victims of the looting and rioting. No one is standing up for the small business owner whose business was destroyed. No one is standing up for the little old lady crying because her neighborhood has been destroyed. Thanks for listening . . .

  12. Great look JoLynne! And YES thank you for the distraction, we need it! Love seeing what you ladies have for us in June. You always have a great outlook and your blog is refreshing. Keep doing you, love reading all of your posts! Blessings to you!

  13. First Jo-Lynne, I want to say how much I appreciated your courage in not posting yesterday. I would have supported your choice either way, but when I saw your email, I thought “Good for you!”. I actually started an email to you and then decided maybe you needed a break from us. Lol.
Anyway, I LOVE this outfit. Green is my color and this shade of green is unexpected with white. How stretchy is the top? It looks like it’s ribbed and I tend to stay clear of ribbed fabric. It is not all that forgiving on me these days.

    1. I couldn’t have said it better, Colleen! I thought the exact same thing, when i saw Jo-Lynne’s message yesterday. I don’t want to go on too much, but i don’t feel that her message yesterday was political.  It was out of respect for our communities who are hurting.
Thank you, Jo-Lynne for always being authentic. Your sentiments showed us what’s in your beautiful heart. To me, it wasn’t at all political, but a response to humanity. Your children are very lucky to have you for a mother.
I’m happy that you’ve decided to continue with your 22 days of summer fashion.  You have impeccable taste and teach us so much about fashion, trends, etc.  You’re also a beacon of light to so many!

    2. Thanks, Colleen, it just didn’t feel right. Sometimes I have to go with my gut, and let the chips fall where they may. The top is very stretchy, you may want to size up. In looking at these pictures, I probably should have tried the medium.

  14. I am so thankful for your posts. The world is so heavy right now, it is nice to have a happy place to visit for a few minutes a day.

  15. I am grateful you and Cindy will be continuing to post the 22 days of Summer. Yes, there is a lot going on … and I think there is still space for fashion and everyday life. So, thank you for doing what you do and continuing to do it in a thoughtful and honoring manner.

  16. Hi Jo Lynne, Love that you are continuing the 22 days of summer, we definitely
need a light diversion  Along the lines, not a big fan of modeling the face masks.  I know that’s our reality now, but it’s just a downer seeing it on your website, but that’s just my opinion. Love the rest of your content.

    1. Hi Claire, thanks for your feedback. My purpose in posting the mask pictures was twofold:

      a) It was sort of a joke – a way to start out this series that is taking place during a global pandemic. When we look back at 22 Days of Fashion 2020, we will remember right away this crazy time we were living in.

      b) I actually had multiple requests for fashionable masks, and some have asked to “style some” with my outfits.

I don’t plan to make them a regular accessory in my outfit posts, but I felt like for this first post in the series, it was rather appropriate. 🙂

  17. Thank you for the diversion.  I needed it.  After reading this blog post, I shopped my closet and assembled this same outfit in the same style and colors.  I even found the same accessories in my closet.  Three years ago, that would not have been even remotely possible.  You look great and you helped me look great.  You and Kelly of AYW, whose course I took at your recommendation, are good teachers, Jo-Lynne.
