Sleeveless Mock Neck Sheath

I realized yesterday that I still have these pictures of the Sleeveless Mock Neck Sheath outfit I wore at the Mazda event in South Carolina. We shot this look a few weeks ago and almost forgot about them.

I think subconsciously, I wanted to forget about them. This is the picture I took the night I got the dress. It fit beautifully, and I felt great wearing it in South Carolina. I got quite a few compliments.

When I got back home, I remembered how hot and sticky it had been that night, so I threw it in the wash. I washed it on cold and laid it flat to dry, and then I hung it up in my closet. The night we went to do this photo shoot, I was in a rush and didn’t pay attention to how wrinkled it was, and it definitely was fitting a bit tighter than it had originally. I’m sure a few minutes with my handy-dandy steamer would have solved both issues, but the pictures were taken, and I hate to waste a photo shoot, so here we are!

If you’re saying to yourself, but it doesn’t look that wrinkled… That is because I took these pictures into PicMonkey and used the Wrinkle Remover tool on them. I think that tool is really intended for faces, but it worked pretty well on this dress! Ha!

So anyway, let’s discuss this outfit. I found this Sleeveless Mock Neck Sheath at White House Black Market. I had already tried on half the store by the time the sales associate finally brought this in and basically forced me to try it. I don’t know why, but I didn’t think I’d like it. The second I had it on, I was sold. It helped that it was also on sale!!! Amazingly, it is still available in a few sizes, and it’s on sale for $81. It also comes in Petite. They picture it with a belt, but that is not included with the dress. For size reference, I’m wearing the 6.

It’s made from a heavy, stretchy ponte knit, plus it’s fully lined so the quality is excellent. I’m really liking the midi length for a change, and the side slit is flirty without being too revealing.

The exposed zipper in the back is a fun, trendy detail, and the gorgeous wine color is rich and sophisticated. I realize I may have a wine problem — and I’m not talking about the beverage! I think half the clothes in my closet are this color right now, and I’m not sorry about it.

I love how these shoes work so well with the bangles. They’re a little hard to walk in, as they’re quite high, but the ankle strap keeps them on my feet and the chunky heel makes them stable. The sand color I’m wearing is almost sold out, but there is a taupe color that is a fantastic neutral — in fact, it would match my snakeskin clutch better than the sand.

I thought suede sandals were the perfect accompaniment to this dress because the weather was hot the night I wore it, but it was fall. Suede sandals are a great transition shoe, although you can wear them all summer long. When it gets cold, I’ll wear pumps with this dress and throw a leather jacket around my shoulders for warmth.

I carried my snakeskin clutch, and I wore the tiger’s eye stretch bangles and teardrop earrings that you’ve seen before. Unfortunately all of these accessories are sold out, but I’ll link to some other options below. I tried on a few necklaces at the store, but I decided they took away from the detail at the neck, and I rather like the simplicity of this dress without a necklace. I really hope I get a chance to wear it again this fall. (And I’ll be sure to steam it first. Ha!)

  1. Now that was brilliant to use the photo wrinkle remover Jo-Lynne—I may have to try that next time!
You know I’m the hugest fan of yours for wearing a dress—and this is exactly why!! You really look so stunning—almost like a pin up girl!!!
That color is wonderful on you too!!
I’m definitely a team dress girl for you!!

  2. Yet another home run! The style and the color of the dress fit you perfectly. Also like your color choice for the heels. All around perfection! Can’t imagine all the behind the scenes work of running a blog, and the frustration when technology has a hissy fit! I get a bit annoyed when my little old ipad has a hiccup!

  3. You look gorgeous in this outfit! I think the color and simple lines of the dress look so elegant on you. This dress could also work for the office with the right blazer, don’t you think? I’m not much of a “dress” person, especially in the winter months for some reason. But….you are changing my mind! 🙂

  4. What a beautiful dress on you Jo-Lynne! Everything about it is perfect. That is an awesome color!

    Have a great day!

  5. You look amazing! That dress is not at all revealing, but you’re right: it has a very flirty vibe! Cyndi beat me to the right adjective…stunning!

  6. It’s a gorgeous dress, and the color looks great on you! The problem I’ve always had with dresses is I’m a size 6, but my bust is a size 10. In order for a dress to fit me through the chest it bags on me everywhere else, or if I get it to fit my body it’s too tight through the chest. It looks like that dress may not have that issue. I just may have to go try it on!

    1. That is frustrating. Conventional wisdom states that you should buy the dress to fit the biggest part of you and get the rest tailored, but that can be expensive and time consuming. It’s so much nicer when they fit correctly off the rack. 🙂 I’m fairly evenly proportioned so sheath styles tend to work well for me. My wide hips balance out the chest, ha! I hope it works for you. It’s a great dress!
