Spring 2014 Handbag Trends #FashionFriday

spring-handbag-trends

A few weeks ago I wrote a post about wearable trends for spring 2014 and I promised to break them down into their own posts. Of course I’m going to start with my favorite topic . . . handbags!

Spring 2014 Handbag Trends

The one trend I’ve seen mentioned over and over again in the fashion magazines is the bucket bag. I generally prefer a structured bag for ease of use, but I do love the casual vibe of a bucket bag or hobo style. In fact, I just this week ordered this Portobello Indio Leather Bucket Bag on Zulily.

But structured satchels are also very hot this year, and I will always be a sucker for the clean lines and sophistication of a bag like this.

I’m also seeing the backpack making a comeback. Just today I’ve noticed cute backpacks being promoted in three different places. You can’t beat the convenience of hands-free, especially when you’ve got little ones to hold onto. I think this Julian Backpack by R Minkoff is PERFECT for the hip mom on the go!

Here are some of my best picks at every price point.

Budget Handbags (Under $75):

LOVING this Nine West Satchel. That cobalt is one of my favorite colors, but the Mushroom and Luggage are so versatile that I’d probably go with one of those. It’s $51.99 PLUS an extra 20% off this weekend only, bringing it down to $42.

Zipster

Target has this Bueno Backpack Handbag in an assortment of fun colors for spring for $29.99.

This bucket bag at Target is only $26.24.

Mid-Priced Handbags ($75-200)

How cute is this coral Tignanello satchel at Macy’s? It comes in about 6 different colors, all perfect for spring/summer, and it’s $118 plus 20% off this weekend.

Or if you prefer a neutral, this one is only $87.99 PLUS 20% off, bringing it down to $70.39. I think I like the thinner, longer straps on this one.

Tignanello Satchel

Tignanello also makes a backpack, on sale for $107.99 + 20% off.

Or this red nylon Dooney & Bourke backpack is $139.

And this Calvin Klein Drawstring Bucket Bag in the light gold is really gorgeous at $170.

Splurge-Worthy Handbags ($200+):

If I were the type to carry one bag all year, I would buy this Marc by Marc Jacobs Classic Q Fran Small Shopper. This really doesn’t fall into any of the above categories, but it’s just an all-around gorgeous bag.

For some reason, I seem to keep seeing it everywhere — on Pinterest, in fashion mags, on blogs. It’s definitely spendy, but if I were the type of girl to carry one bag for a few years, I would snatch this one up.

I love it in Minty, but I’d probably go with Smoked Almond because it’s more versatile. Black is too severe and not good for summer, but Smoked Almond would work all year round, it would go with any color. The color I’ve really been crushing on is this Warm Zinc.

Isn’t. That. Gorgeous?

Talk about a color that would go with everything all year round. I can’t believe they’ve discontinued it. I’ve been meaning to write about it for weeks, and I almost cried when I sent to grab a link for it just now and discovered that they’re gone! I don’t know why, as it truly is out of my price range. I change bags far too often to drop $450 on one. But. Look how cute to carry . . . sigh.

If you’re looking for an investment piece, snatch one up in the currently available colors!!!

Okay, moving on. Bucket bag? Not really something I would recommend paying over $200 for, and I didn’t find any I would even waste my drool over. Ha!

The Julian Backpack that I showed above, I stand by that recommendation. R Minkoff can do no wrong in my eyes, and she nails mom chic with that bag.

For a satchel, once again, I have to give it to R Minkoff for this classic satchel she calls Amorous. I’ve got my eye on the Minty, but this Pale Gunmetal Gray is subtle and ladylike, and if you’re looking to invest in a timeless handbag, you can’t go wrong with this.

Well, that was FUN! At least, I thought so. Did you???

Before you go! I want to tell you about something fun we have in the works for next week!

      1. I think they are getting more popular, especially in NYC where we tend to carry a lot on the go. I bought the Rebecca Minkoff backpack today in poppy red, a great burst of color for spring/summer. Can’t wait to use it for everyday, as well as when riding my bike.

  1. I was happy to see this blog post. I’m actually looking for a nice handbag. I was thinking of splurging a little and going with a classic Michael Kors. But I can’t decide now. LoL. I have Coach and D&B…….so maybe I should go less name brand? Hmmmm. Decisions, decisions…..
