Spring Cargo Pants Outfit

Are you guys tired of cargo pants and white denim yet? I hope not, because it’s pretty much all I want to wear right now. Bonus when I can wear them together!

I put together this spring cargo pants outfit with some of my favorite wardrobe basics, but there are so many possible variations.

After I shared three ways to wear cargo pants, I had some requests for more budget-friendly options so I started poking around to see what I could find. I was surprised that there weren’t more options out there, but what I did find was pretty good: these Wit & Wisdom Flex-ellent high waist cargo pants.

Wit & Wisdom is a Nordstrom-exclusive brand that makes clean, classic pieces at mid-range prices. These pants retail for $68, and they come in 4 colors. I ordered the thyme, and I agree with the sizing notes on the website: Size down if in between. For reference, I’m wearing the 6.

The material is nice and sturdy but not stiff at all, and it has a good amount of stretch for comfort and movement.

They fit my short-waisted 5’5″ frame extremely well, and I really like the pocket design. Flaps on the thighs can add visual weight, but these flat pockets are in keeping with the cargo styling but don’t draw undue attention to this area.

They have a 30″ inseam, so I cuffed mine 3 times to get the length I wanted. I think they’re flattering just above the ankle bone, but you could wear them shorter.

In other words, if you’re taller, no worries. If you’re shorter, you may need to roll them more than 3 times.

On top I wore a pink tee and my white denim jacket. I love the combination of the pink with the muted green/grey pants, and the white jacket gives the look added interest and more structure.

I wore white espadrille flats to bookend the look, but I almost wore my black ones. Either would work. I would also wear nude or grey shoes with this outfit, or white sneakers would look great with it too.

I’ve talked about these flats before, but I find myself wearing them more and more now that the weather is getting nicer. They’re super lightweight and flexible and so easy to wear.

This spring cargo pants outfit is perfect for casual work environments or weekend errands.

  1. I am all about the cargo pants with pockets that don’t add bulk! I have a pair I love from Caslon that are a few years old and thank goodness I haven’t had to replace them. You are reminding me I need to pull mine out for spring!

  2. I love this outfit on you and for myself.  There are times that I like my skinny jeans/pants, but the times that I want pants that don’t hug my legs are increasing.  Because I am having more and more skin cancer places to pop up on my legs, I cannot wear tight fitting pants due to the tenderness and sensitivity of the spots, but I still want to look put together and feel confident in what I’m wearing.  I love all of the Wit And Wisdom pants that are in my closet now, so I am going to look into their cargo pants.  Since I live in a warmer climate, I see them as a year round closet staple.  We are heading to Vidalia, GA, today for the Vidalia Onion Festival and a concert tomorrow night.  Have a fabulous day!

  3. It makes me glad I didn’t throw out my cargo pants from years ago!! Now I need to go see if they still fit…ha ha!!
As for the white jacket…LOVE it!!

  4. I have a question about the Rebecca Minkoff bag that went on sale for $121. The link takes me to the pink one and still is $325. I see a code for $25 off each $100 spent but that still more than $121. What am I missing?

  5. Nope! Not tired of this combo at all! BTW I was drawn in by the white Rebecca Minkoff bag in your email but the link goes to a pink one. I think maybe the white is already sold out? Bummer.

  6. Great post, Jo-Lynne. I love these cargo pants and the way you styled them. How do they compare in quality to the ones you bought earlier? Just curious? Do they stretch out with wear or keep their shape?

  7. Love the cargo pants!  I have a question from your email…I love that Social Threads cover up, but won’t order it because it is made of rayon.  I find rayon looks great … until you wash it, then it’s never the same.  Does anyone else have this issue?

  8. Sorry this isn’t a reply, but I’d like to know what your fave is in strapless bras? I’ve seen you post this before, but I didn’t save it.

    Thanks!

  9. These are so cute and really flattering on you. If I didn’t already have 10 pairs of green pants, I’d definitely be ordering! My green cargos are several years old, but I still wear them heavily every spring and summer. I’m so relieved to know the trend is still going strong!

  10. Thanks for all the information on garment details. It’s quite hard sometimes to see some of the features of an item in the photos online or in a catalog, or to know if a certain bottom needs to be cuffed more than once. It’s handy to know these things before ordering; saves having to return something.
Hadn’t ever noticed your give-away. Love that and hope I’m a winner someday!
