Spring Has Sprung at Talbots!

Hello Monday! It appears that Spring has decided to hibernate for a few days here in Philly, but I know it’s on its way. The forsythia told me so.

Speaking of forsythia, I’m totally crushing on this utility jacket from Talbots. It’s such a happy shade of yellow, and who doesn’t need a little extra sunshine in their life right now?

I’ve had a few requests for spring jackets, and I think a lot of you will like this one. It’s such an easy way to elevate your casual spring outfits.

This jacket is made of a lightweight stretch cotton, so it’s comfortable and breathable and fits easily over your spring tops and sweaters.

I like how it has a drawstring in the waist so you can cinch it for a more fitted look, and it hits just below the hip, which is very flattering. (You never want your jacket to end at the widest part of your hips.)

It’s cut generously, and I probably could have gone down a size, but I’m wearing the small. It’s available in regular, petite, plus, and petite plus sizes; and it also comes in navy, white, and tan if yellow isn’t your jam.

Underneath, I’m wearing this fun stripe cut-out back top. It’s a lightweight cotton/poly blend, and it almost has the texture of linen, but you can wash and dry it.

Besides the cut-out in the back, it also has an exposed seam up the middle of the back for added interest.

I also like how the neckline is rounded, but not super high, so it’s both flattering and modest.

I’m wearing the small, and the fit is easy, but I wouldn’t size down. I’d say it’s true to size. It’s also available in regular, petite, plus, and petite plus sizes.

I kept the rest of the outfit fairly neutral with light wash jeggings and tan chain link loafers.

These jeans are stretchy and comfortable, but I definitely could have sized down. I’m in the 6 here, but I have the black ones in a 4, and the fit is much better. They have a comfortable high rise and I’m guessing about a 29″ inseam.

This is such a nice classic look for running errands or meeting up with friends, although it will be a while before we are doing any of that. We shot this look before our area went on lockdown. It’s also great for those working from home who still want to look nice for teleconferencing and remote learning.

While I was putting the yellow jacket outfit together, I also came across this animal print sweater that I couldn’t resist adding to my cart.

I think this is such a pretty print, and I like the rounded v-neck and elbow-length sleeves — such a classy piece to wear alone or layered under a blazer or denim jacket. I can see myself getting a lot of wear out of this sweater this spring and summer!

Once again, the fit is easy, and I actually think I might prefer the XS in this one. You may want to size down, if ordering.

This sweater pairs perfectly with black jeans or pants.

My new tan loafers also work really well with this look.

I used to wear a lot of Talbots shoes when I was a teacher back in the day. They’re typically well made and comfortable, and these loafers did not disappoint.

The suede is nice and soft against the foot, and while they were a bit stiff at first, they broke in quickly and easily with a few hours of wear.

I also like that they have just a slight heel. My podiatrist always tells me it’s better for my finicky feet to wear a low heel (as opposed to a flat.)

I really like the light neutral shoe with the black pants and the lighter top. I could have gone with black or a pop of color (red would be fun!) but I think the tan bookends the look nicely.

The longer length of the black jeans works well with these shoes.

A darker shoe would chop up the look, whereas the tan is low contrast against my skin, which allows the black jeans to make my legs look longer and leaner.

Talbots also has a great jewelry selection.

These two-in-one charm hoop earrings are a really versatile, and I’m always a fan of mixed metal jewelry. It takes all the guesswork out of mixing and matching. I’ve been wearing them with everything lately.

I also grabbed this textured gold bangle to complete the look. It has an easy hinge opening and a magnetic closure, and it’s lightweight and easy to wear.

You could add a complimentary piece like this linen blazer or a denim jacket, but this outfit also looks great on its own.

I was pleased to discover elevated pieces at Talbots that are classic yet modern and top-notch quality. They also offer an incredibly diverse range of sizes. Whether you need regular, plus, petite, or plus-petite; they have it all, and it’s all available online.

I’m also excited to tell you that Talbots decided to extend their 40% off sale! That’s right. Everything I’m wearing in this post is 40% off with free shipping (although there is a $5 handling fee for single item orders.) No code needed.

  1. Love the striped top! That’s exactly the kind I’d love to have for spring. Sadly, no Talbot’s in Austria and having them ship overseas (plus paying for customs) rules it out for me. Probably better for my wallet right now anyway.

      1. Everything is shut down except for grocery stores, pharmacies and health services. Next town over from ours is under complete quarantine, which is scary, but we’re hangin’ in there. Thanks for asking. Always look forward to your posts.

  2. I really like both outfits, but the tops are awesome!  If I were in need of more tops, I would add the leopard print one to my closet.  To err on the side of caution, I am canceling every doctors appointment that I have, that can wait.  I was supposed to have a Prolia injection in the hospital mid April, but that’s the last building I want to enter, so I canceled it.  While I’m not fearful, I am doing my best to make smart choices to reduce the risk of exposure to myself and especially Larry.  I plan on placing an order with Amazon today for some non perishable items that we need, so that I don’t have to go into a store even in our little town.  I hate hearing that friends of friends have it.  You know, they are saying that the number of people 20-49 getting it is increasing, as well as the # of males in that age group is surpassing the # of females.  I hope y’all have a productive in the house day!

  3. Hi Jo-Lynne! I had to smile at your comment about waking up to rain because I woke up to snow! I really like the shirt that you are wearing and it looks MUCH better on you than the model on the website. Is the dark stripe black or navy blue? You hit it out of the ballpark with both outfits. Have a great day!

  4. I keep forgetting about Talbots… we have one in our mall and I must go in when we are back to normal to see what size I would be. I forget they have petites so that may prove to be useful. I have bought things from them years ago but felt they were more of an older store. You have proven me wrong in this post. That yellow jacket is a nice change from the olive green utility jacket that we see ourselves coming in.

  5. Love, love, love Talbots! You look great in everything, and the yellow jacket says Spring! Stay home and stay healthy!

    1. Thank you for the post – something new and different! The leopard top looks perfect for a simple work outfit – agree to pair with neutral/taupe shoes! Did you think the neckline was a little wide at the top, generally? Looks wider on the model than you. Your outfits looked great.

  6. Great post. ‘Course I’m a Talbots’ girl from way back. Partial to them mainly for their petite selections. 👍👍👍

  7. Cute, cute outfit! I have 2 of those utility jackets (army green and faded rose), and they are worth their weight in gold, so versatile. It’s always cold in the office where I work, so I wear them a lot. They’re just right. Love the shirt, too, and the way you put the blue stripes together w/ the yellow jacket.
I am so grateful for you and other fashion bloggers I tune in to every day, bright spots in the constant round of dismal news we are receiving.

  8. When I went to order the striped sweater, the 40% discount applied BUT no free shipping! Do I need a code for free shipping??

    1. Hey Paula, I just looked at the fine print, and I found this: Free standard shipping with no minimum merchandise purchase valid 3/23/20 on orders shipped by standard delivery (3-7 business days on in-stock items) to one shipping address within the continental U.S. or Canada. There is a $5.00 handling fee for single item orders. No offer code needed.

So evidently there’s a $5 handling fee for a single item… I wasn’t aware or I would have mentioned it. I’ll edit my post.

  9. I’m really liking the short sleeve leopard top. For some reason I always think of this as a fall to winter color but do like it with white jeans for spring and summer and looks great with the black jeans and tan loafers as you styled it. I use to think Talbots was for older women as the ladies in the senior community I work in, like to wear Talbots but I’m really not far from their age and do see a lot of cute items on their website. Thanks for sharing.

  10. Hey Jolynne! Hope you are having a great day, considering. I don’t mind staying at home. I am sort of a homebody now since I have retired. But, I love to shop and never have had much luck with the quality part in shopping online. I really love to try on my clothes before I buy. But I really love Talbots and never had a problem with them. I do love the outfits you posted today. They are definitely my style. I feel an order coming on!! Ha! Hope you have a nice day! Stay Safe and Healthy!! …LW 💜🌷

  11. I just ordered the yellow jacket and the striped long sleeve too!! I hope delivery is still happening in my area. I was just shopping last night for a yellow jacket. I found a different one by chicos off the rack but it was not quit right for me. I hope this one I just ordered fits and works for me!! thanks for your suggestions.

  12. We had similar weather here in central Texas for several days and it made things harder. Today the sun is back and it is all of a sudden early summer here. The sun and warmth helps calm the nerves during this difficult time. While one of my kids and I were drawing in chalk on the driveway and walking through our school garden we got to see several of our friends and bible study buddies…from our new social distancing parameters of course. 😉 It was good for the soul. Hopefully the sun will return to your area soon. Thank you for your posts! Wishing you and yours good health.

  13. I worked at Talbots on holidays and summer breaks during college (and my first couple of years out of college, too), so I have a soft spot for them. (They never required that I buy and wear their clothing to work, thus shrinking my paycheck…that’s right, I’m looking at you, GAP.)

The yellow jacket is darling. I might have to think about getting it….

  14. When do you choose shoe color to “bookend” your look or add a pop of color? And when do you choose the same color? Wouldn’t black shoes extend the leg more than matching your ankle color? I love the outfit you put together but trying to understand so I can implement. I think nonblack shoes add interest and make the outfit not boring at all. Black shoes wouldn’t look quite as sharp.

    1. Hey Marie, both would work. I just kind of liked the neutral shoe with this. There really is no right or wrong. Black is rather expected, so the nude looks a little more modern. But black paired with black is also classic, and there are plenty of times I wear a black shoe with black pants or jeans. I just try not to always do the same thing, if that makes sense? And it sometimes the shoe choice depends on what I have in my closet at the time, what heel height I want for the activities of the day, etc.
