Spring Stripes in Savannah

Happy Tuesday, friends! Today I’m sharing an outfit from our Savannah trip last weekend. Stripes are having a moment this spring, and I’m having a hard time resisting the call.

This crisp blue-and-white striped cotton poplin top with its subtle ruffle detail and keyhole back with tie closure was begging to come home with me when I saw it at J.Crew last week.

In fact, I was so eager to make it mine that I didn’t even bother trying it on in the store, so I didn’t find out until I got home that it’s a little snug through the chest area. I think it would be fantastic on someone who is slightly smaller up top. For size reference, I’m wearing the 6.

I really like the slightly shorter length of this top, and the tie in the back is another cute detail.

It was my natural inclination to pair this top with white jeans, but when I saw it on the bed next to my new pink skinnies, I loved the combination.

I have the size 29 (I wear 28 in some brands and 29 in others) and they’re comfortable, but they feel like they may stretch out. Still, I find that I prefer to size up in my white and lighter colored jeans because they aren’t as forgiving as typical bluejeans, and when they’re snug, they sometimes don’t look very good in the thigh area.

By the way, Bloomingdale’s is having a Friends & Family Sale right now, and most of their premium denim is 25% off!

SALE ALERT >> Take 25% off a great selection of items at Bloomingdale’s. Plus Lloyalists get a $25 reward card for every $100 you spend on almost everything else!

I kept my jewelry simple and wore these pearl drop earrings and my silver link bracelet.

I almost wore flat sandals, but then I decided to go with these espadrille wedges. I thought the color worked in nicely with the colors of this outfit, and the added height is always nice.

This outfit would be perfect for a casual Easter gathering or another spring event that doesn’t require you to be too fancy. I would also wear this out to lunch or to have coffee with a friend. I can always swap out the heels for flats if I’m going somewhere that requires a lot of walking.

I hope you all have a fabulous day!

  1. I’m glad you chose the pink jeans, Jo-Lynne—they are perfect with this top!
I don’t think this top looks too small in the photos–maybe it’s different in real life??
Do you keep the tags in so you can return it?? I’m one of those that always takes the tags out right away and then sometimes regrets it…

    1. Yeah, I was pleased it photographed okay. It is just a TAD snug, ya know? That’s why I’m not sure the 8 would work. I did leave the tags on in this case, and I only had it on for about 5 minutes. We went downstairs to the front of the hotel, took the pictures, and came back up and changed for our day in Savannah. 🙂 I usually leave tags on until I move things to my closet, and then I remove them. I keep a hanging rack outside my room with clothes I plan to style for the blog. Sometimes I never even get to use them b/c they sell out before I photograph them, or I change my mind, or whatever. I keep tags on in case.

  2. This outfit and the beautiful spot you choose to take your pictures, saids “Spring” to me! Love those pink jeans.

  3. Hi Jo-Lynne! Kudos to your husband, this set of photos is beautiful…especially the flower gardens! Oh, I loved your pink jeans and striped top as well. I find I need to go up a size in anything J.Crew. Enjoy the sunshine that is promised this afternoon (I live near you, in New Jersey!)

  4. Love the top! And thank you for sharing that you size up sometimes on white or light jeans. I’ve thought about that as well, so I’ll give that a try and see if I like my legs better that way. Ha! Have a great day enjoying your 70 degree weather!

  5. Love the pink jeans and your shirt honestly doesn’t look too tight at all but since it’s cotton it could shrink. I would LOVE, LOVE, LOVE to see pics of your dining room and living room once finished. I’ve been redoing my dining room as well and recovering the chairs and getting a new chandelier are my next steps. Happy Spring in Philly…it’s super warm and pretty here in Jax although we had a ridiculous thunder storm last night. Thankfully it’s moving out and the sun is starting to shine. 🙂

  6. Love the top. I too am loving the stripes. You look great in that size. I think the size 8 top would look too sloppy. It may feel tight in the bust, but doesn’t look that way at all in the pictures. I love how you paired it with the blush jeans. It would look great with white jeans also, but love the different look with the blush. Great job. 🙂 Love your hair in the pictures. Perfect amount of curl.

  7. Our son and his wife were in graduate school in Charleston, South Carolina. On our last visit with them before they moved back to California, we went to Savannah, Georgia. It was hot but we took the open air bus and it was pleasant with plenty of air passing through. The coastal cities are not for the faint of heart in the summer. Savannah is so pretty with a lot of history and interesting sights. Your outfit is darling I love the pink pants and blue/white strips. You look great as always. ( I thought it was always sunny in Philly). Ha

    1. Oh I WISH it were always sunny in Philly! I think I need to move to San Diego, but I’m sure I’d miss the seasons. I was in the Savannah area back in October and it was SO hot and humid. I remember thinking then that I should be happy where I am. Everywhere has something that is less than ideal, I suppose!

  8. So cute!! But if not comfy forget it! Pics are really excellent. My compliments to photographer!! Glad you had a nice trip. We love it down here. ( except for that little humidity and heat issue!!! HA).
Thanks for the inspiration to consider other colors as more “neutral”! Julie L

  9. Love the pink skinnies!  Do you know the color of your jeans? Are they “pink sunrise”? There are multiple shades of pink in the seven jeans and I can’t tell which are the ones you’re wearing.
