When The Calendar Says Spring But The Weather Says Brrr!

The days are getting longer, the trees are starting to bud, and I can hear birds singing outside of my office windows in the mornings. It’s as if they’re trying to usher in the spring weather we’re all so eagerly anticipating.

Even though it’s still chilly in the mornings, spring has definitely sprung, and it’s time to ditch the dark colors and heavy layers in favor of lights and brights.

A chunky sweater in a pretty pastel paired with white jeans and neutral wedges is the perfect spring transition outfit for those of us living in cooler climates.

Even if you’re down south where it’s already warmed up, you could easily pair this sweater with shorts on a cool evening, and of course white jeans are great to wear all spring and summer long.

To kick off the arrival of spring, Lord + Taylor is having their Friends + Family Sale with 30% off almost everything and 15% off almost all beauty! This is a great time to invest in a few new springtime pieces or stock up on your favorite beauty products.

White jeans are a springtime closet staple, and these Joe’s Jeans classic buttoned jeans are a classic skinny jean in a nice, sturdy fabric that isn’t see-through. #hallelujah

As you may remember, I’ve been looking for high waisted white jeans. These have a 10″ rise with a 28″ inseam (the perfect ankle length on my 5’5″ frame.) I also like how they have fake pockets, so you don’t see those through the front of the pants.

They have a really nice fit and feel, and while they’re definitely more of a splurge purchase, the quality is fantastic and they will last many years. If you’re looking for an investment pair of white jeans, I highly recommend giving these a try. They also carry a cropped pair, if you prefer a shorter length, and both are 30% off with code FRIENDS.

For size reference, I have the 29 in these jeans, which is my usual size in Joe’s. I can sometimes wear a 28 in other brands, so I’d say they’re TTS or size up if in between.

I paired them with this textured boatneck sweater by French Connection. I absolutely love the chunky knit, the flattering boatneck, and the cuffed sleeves.

I don’t even mind the dropped shoulders because they work with the boxy shape and boatneck. It’s slightly cropped, so perfect for wearing with high waist jeans, and isn’t this shade of periwinkle blue positively divine?

This sweater is true to size (I’m wearing a small) but you could size up for more length and a slouchier silhouette. If you don’t like the cropped length, take a look at this textured cotton blend sweater. It’s a little longer and also comes in a pretty shade of blue.

Best of all, both of these sweaters are almost half off the original retail price with the Friends & Family discount!

Statement earrings are a big spring trend right now, and I couldn’t resist these white rope circle drop earrings. (I also picked up this gold pair that I’ve worn a couple times recently.)

I tend to keep my jewelry more classic and understated, so it was really fun to wear these for a change. I think I’m going to have to get more daring in my accessory choices.

These earrings are very lightweight and don’t bother my ears at all, and they’re a great price for a trendy style that you may only wear for a couple seasons.

And if you’re wondering why I’m wearing them in some pictures and not others, I forgot to put them on at first, and I had to run back to the car and get them mid-shoot. I’m just so glad I remembered before it was too late! They add such a nice touch of whimsy to this classic look.

Finally, I picked up these gold leather espadrille sandals because so many of my wedge sandals have a super high heel.

I love my high heels, but sometimes you need something you can walk in for more than a city block, and these are perfect for that. The style is on trend, plus they’re good quality and very comfortable.

Best of all, they’re 30% off with the Friends & Family discount. For a leather sandal, you can’t beat it. I’m wearing my usual size 8, for reference.

This is the perfect outfit for these chilly spring days we’re having right now, but all of the components can be mixed and matched with other pieces in my closet and worn well into spring and summer.

Even the sweater will be nice to have on chilly summer evenings — I can see throwing it on with shorts to hang out on the deck with friends or wearing it to the boardwalk when we’re at the beach.

  1. I love this on you! I just can’t wear white jeans until summer. Maybe I’m old school, but no one in my circle does it and I’d feel awkward. Oh well!  Are you ever able to add plus size alternatives? I think there are quite a few of us.

  2. Love this from top to bottom and those earrings how fun🤗. I noticed when I started taking out spring clothes I had very few sweaters .. like if any…  lol that were spring colors. Needless to say I’m working on changing that. We normally go from winter to summer but we’ve already had some nice spring days. So maybe things are changing for us who knows? Even so, if it’s cold I’d like the lighter colors by now anyway. Have a great weekend

    1. Oh and I just turned on the weather -7 degrees Celsius with windchill brr is right.. but a Lovely afternoon of 4 degrees Celsius (38) my my what shall I do lol…  sweaters … you’re right .

  3. Such a pretty spring look.   Those shoes are fabulous!  Lord and Taylor is one of my favorite stores.  Thank you for featuring them.

  4. That sweater is a beautiful color, and I’m so proud of you for wearing a pair of larger trendy earrings!  They look great.  I’m glad you were able to run a little yesterday.  Rain moved in last night and we will have on and off wet weather for the next 5 days.  Have a great weekend!

  5. I am absolutely loving lavender this spring and that sweater is so dang cute. It’s perfect with the white jeans. Okay, I’m just going to ask and I’m embarrassed because I probably missed a post where you said, but have you quit hosting your Friday link up?

    1. Oh, don’t be embarrassed! I’m sorry, I usually mention it in my newsletter when there’s no linkup. I can’t put the linkup on sponsored posts, and lately I seem to be having a lot of sponsored posts on Fridays. The linkup should be back next week!

  6. You look fabulous. That blue is such a great color for you. As for running I think you are smart to take it slow. Glad your vertigo is gone.

  7. Such a pretty outfit!  I just returned from my family visit to Texas (sorry you had to cancel your trip) and I’m hoping it doesn’t warm up too quickly here in Ohio so I can wear the Caslon sweater(s) I bought through your recommendation.  Love spring sweaters in light colors!

  8. Beautiful outfit!  I love the shoes and plan to order them however the link takes me to a 3.25 inch heel.   You mentioned enjoying the lower heel height.  The pair you are wearing appear to be around 2 in in height.  Where did you find the lower heel height?  Thank you

    1. I’m linking to the ones I’m wearing. I guess they do have a 3″ heel. They feel lower to me b/c I often wear higher ones with more of a platform. Because of the platform on these, the heel drop is closer to 3″ or 2.75″ — they don’t feel super high.

  9. I know this is off topic but I was wondering if you were still using the Monet Black Hair Care System?  I have fine thin hair and was wondering if you have found something you’d recommend.  Thanks!

    1. I am! I don’t know that it has helped, but my hair is finally getting thicker. Honestly, I think it’s a cyclical thing with hair growth b/c mine seems to go through phases, and I used Monat for a long time with no obvious changes, and just recently it seems to be doing better. I do like the product, though, so I keep using it.

  10. Love the look, and the color of that sweater! Sadly, it was 91 degrees yesterday, so no sweaters for me. I did keep wanting you to put on a necklace, but you really didn’t need it with the pretty earrings.

  11. Hi Jolynne, I am so glad to hear that your vertigo is doing so much better and you were able to get a run in. You mentioned that you run for your mental health.  It is amazing what those endorphins can do for you. I just wanted to share with you that my daughter is a mental health therapist and has started a new blog. It is based on our general mental health, and common thoughts that apply to everyone of us. Therefore the blog is called

    Hope you enjoy.🙂

  12. Beautiful outfit! I love this color combination.
I’m also liking the shorter sweaters you’ve been featuring lately. This one is lovely.
