Spring Try-On Haul: White Jeans, Blue Jeans, Spring Tops & A Jumpsuit

Happy Saturday, friends! It’s bright and sunny here, but COLD. I know some of you are getting snow, so I’ll take my sunshine and and cold, thankyouverymuch.

A bunch of packages came in yesterday, so I was able to put together a new Try-On Haul for you.

I’ve had several requests for white crop straight jeans, and I have some of those! Plus a couple pairs of blue jeans, a few fun spring tops, and a great little jumpsuit.

Spring Try-On Haul: White Jeans, Blue Jeans, Spring Tops & a Jumpsuit

SIZING NOTES: I’m 5’5″ and 135 pounds-ish, with a slight hourglass shape. I wear a 28 in jeans, a small in tops, a 6 in dresses/jumpsuits, and a size 8 shoe.

Try-Ons: White Jeans

AG The Jodi Crop Jeans $112 $188

These jeans are a crop flare, and the fabric is thin and very stretchy (50% cotton/41% lyocell/7% polyester/2% polyurethane).

They have a 10″ rise with a 26.5″ inseam and a 15″ leg opening, and they fit true to size. I’m in the 28. These are 40% off at Zappo’s, and you can find a few sizes for 60% off at Nordstrom Rack.

The fabric on these is a little on the thin side, which I’ve found tends to be the case with AG white denim.

The fit is good, and they’re verrrrry comfortable, but I think I just don’t care for a crop flare. Or maybe I just need to chop an inch off… I’m not sure.

The rear view is pretty good too — at least in the derriere. The pockets are a nice size and centered perfectly.

Of course, these are AG, and I always love their rear pocket placement. They’re pretty much made for me. I just wish they didn’t flare quite so much.

If you’re looking for a comfortable white crop flare and don’t mind if they’re on the thin side, these are a solid option.

The raw hem makes them super easy to alter at home if you want them a little shorter. (See how I cut my jeans, if you’re wondering what I mean!)

VERDICT: Returning; I found some straighter styles I like better.

also wearing: LOFT Henley Linen Tee and Nine West Gianna Slides (last year)

L’Agence Nadia High Rise Crop Straight Jeans $255

These jeans are made in the USA of a heavyweight stretch denim (98% cotton/2% spandex). They have a 10″ rise with a 25″ inseam and a 15″ leg opening, and I’d say they run true to size. I’m wearing the 29, but I just re-ordered in the 28.

They’re currently full price and fully stocked at Shopbop, but you can find a few sizes on sale at Saks and Nordstrom.

This is a new brand to me, although I’ve seen other bloggers feature them. They’re definitely a higher end designer, but I thought this crop straight style looked like it had potential, and I was curious to try them.

They have a more polished appearance than the other pairs I’ve tried. The fabric is thick and not see-through, but with a comfortable amount of stretch, and they have a finished hem.

Size-wise, they’re a bit big on me, but otherwise, I like how they look from the front and sides.

Even though they have a 15″ leg opening like the AG Jodi above, they don’t seem to flare quite as much. I’m not sure if it’s because they’re pressed with a seam down the front, or because they’re not as fitted through the thighs.

Okay, I actually measured, and the Jodi has a 16″ leg opening, so that explains it! All that to say, I like the fit of these bit better.

They’re okay from the back, but I wish the rear pockets weren’t set quite so high. They also fit a little looser in the thighs than I typically like… I guess I just need to try them in a smaller size to know for sure if it’s the fit or the size that’s the issue.

The other thing I’m not sure about is the length… I know I don’t like this style when they’re ankle-length, but these are almost too short for a crop. I feel like I need maybe another half inch.

Overall, I’d say these are worth a try if you’re looking for a polished and sophisticated crop straight white jean, but I’m not 100% sold on them. The price point is way up there, so I recommend buying on sale.

VERDICT: Undecided; exchanging for 28. I’ll report back!

also wearing: Banana Republic Soft Satin Ruffle Top with Nine West Gianna sandals (last year)

Levi’s 724 High Rise Straight Crop Jeans $98

These cropped, straight-cut jeans are made of a thick stretch denim (97% cotton/3% elastane) with one destroyed knee and a subtle distressing at the hem. You can find them at Shopbop, Nordstrom, and Revolve.

They have a 9 1/2″ rise with a 25 1/4″ inseam and 12″ leg opening, and they run small. That’s typical for Levi’s, so I ordered the 29, and it’s a perfect fit.

The material on these is very thick and not see-through at all. They even have full front pockets, but you can’t see them.

The back view checks out too — the pockets are a nice size, a little far apart, but it’s not a deal breaker. They fit close to the body, and the length is perfect for a cropped fit.

I also really like that 12″ leg opening, as it gives them a true straight fit without any flare.

The subtle distressing keeps them ultra casual, making them the perfect jeans to throw on with t-shirts and flip flops all spring and summer!

VERDICT: Winner, winner, chicken dinner!!! Definitely keeping. I love these!

also wearing: J.Crew Linen Rolled-Cuff T-Shirt and Sam Edelman Bay Slides

AGOLDE Toni Mid-Rise Slim Straight Jeans in Radiate $111 $158

These slim, straight ankle jeans are made of a thick white stretch denim (98% cotton, 2% elastane) with a classic 5-pocket design and a finished hem

They have a 27″ inseam with a 9.5″ rise and a 12″ leg opening, and they’re currently 25% off at Revolve.

I tried these in my usual size 28 in a Try-On Haul a few weeks back, and I liked the fit but they were really snug in the waist, so I re-ordered in a size 29. As predicted, the 29 is too big everywhere else.

They have a 12″ leg opening with a slim straight fit, so “on paper” they should fit as well as the Levi’s, but they just don’t. It probably has to do with the longer length. These are a good inch and a half longer than the Levi’s.

I don’t care for the rear view at all — the pockets are huge and set too low. On the plus side, the denim is nice and thick and not see-through at all.

VERDICT: Returning; I can do better.

also wearing: LOFT Floral V-Neck Mixed Media Shell and Stuart Weitzman Cadence Wedge Sandals

7 For All Mankind Roxanne Raw Hem Ankle Jeans in White Fashion $169 + 25% off

These jeans have a straight crop fit with raw-edge hem, and they’re a stretchy cotton/polyester/spandex blend.

They have a 9″ rise with a 27″ inseam and a 12″ leg opening, and they’re currently 25% off at Bloomingdale’s.

I’d say this fabric is very close to the AG pair above — thin and stretchy and comfortable, but a tad see-through.

The pocket placement is pretty good, although the pockets are on the larger side and they don’t seem to quite match.

But the main issue I have with the rear view is how thin they are. Otherwise, they fit pretty well for a slim straight style.

Even though they’re more ankle-length than cropped, I sort of like the fit. (And of course, I could chop off an inch if I liked them that much.) Unfortunately, they’re just too thin.

LOFT Patch Pocket High Rise Crop Flares $79.50 + 40% off

These crop flare jeans are made of a soft and stretchy white denim (98% cotton, 2% elastane) with a 11 1/4″ rise with 26 1/2″ inseam and a 17″ leg opening.

They’re currently part of the LOFT weekend promo: 60% off 4+ full-price styles, 50% off 3 full-price styles, or 4% off 1 or 2 full-price styles.

They have a slim leg with a pretty dramatic flare at the bottom, and the front patch pockets are a fun detail if you don’t mind having attention drawn to that area.

The rear pocket placement is pretty good and I don’t mind the large pockets on these, but I’m just not a fan of that dramatic flare leg.

If you like a crop flare, these are worth a try. The price is certainly nice!

VERDICT: Returning.

also wearing: LOFT Chevron Stripe V-Neck Top with Sam Edelman Bay Slide Sandals

Try-Ons: Blue Jeans

PAIGE Hoxton High-Rise Crop Skinny Jeans in Atterberry  $157.50 $225

These light wash skinny jeans are made in the USA, and the fabric is 95% cotton, 4% polyester, 1% elastane. They have a 10″ rise with a 26″ inseam and a 10″ leg opening.

They’re fully stocked for 25% off at Bloomingdales, and there are a few sizes for 30% off at Nordstrom.

I think Nordstrom sums these up perfectly with their description: Luxuriously soft and svelte, these high-waist jeans with an ultra-skinny silhouette and cropped, destroyed hems make a great base for any laid-back look. #yesplease

These jeans are so comfortable right out of the box — they feel like I’ve had them for years, and you can see the craftsmanship in the fading and whiskering.

I think the destroyed hems are really fun too; I like that so much better than a destroyed knee.

Paige jeans tend to have small pockets, and these are perfectly placed.

I’ve always preferred smaller rear pockets, but ladies who carry more weight in their hips seem to like the larger ones. It’s all a matter of body type and personal preference.

They’re listed at both Nordstrom and Bloomies as having a 10″ rise, but they didn’t feel that way at all, so I measured, and mine are definitely 9.5″. Either is fine with me. Being short-waisted, a 9.5″ rise is actually a little more flattering.

The 26″ inseam is the perfect crop length for wearing with sandals or sneakers this summer.

I styled these two different ways because I took pictures for this post with the sandals and tee, and then I switched into the sweatshirt and sneakers and wore this outfit for the rest of the day.

VERDICT: Keeping! Already wore them, and I love them.

also wearing: LOFT Henley Linen Tee and Vince Hazen Sandals OR Wildfox Baggy Beach Crewneck Sweatshirt with P448 John Sneakers

I love Wildfox sweatshirts, by the way. This one is old, and there is only the large left, but I would recommend any Wildfox sweatshirt if you want a luxe, sporty top for pairing with your jeans while sheltering in place… or running errands if you’re lucky enough to be out and about!

rag & bone Cate Mid-Rise Ankle Skinny $168.75 $225

These mid-rise skinny jeans are made in the USA from premium Japanese stretch denim (42% cotton 29% lyocell 15% modal 12% polyester 2% elastane) with a dark indigo wash.

They have a 9″ rise with a 27″ inseam and a 10″ leg opening and a clean, finished hem.

I ordered these directly from the rag & bone website because they’re running a site-wide sale, and I’ve been wanting a shorter pair of darker wash skinnies.

Unfortunately, sizes have gotten quite depleted, but I found a similar pair at Nordstrom Rack. These are definitely a darker wash, but they should have the same great fit, and the price is great.

I really like the fit and feel of these and the dark wash with just a hint of whiskering and distressing.

The finished hems are nice for a change, as most of my jeans right now have a raw hem. The rise is in the lower side for today’s trends, but still considered a mid-rise style.

It’s hard to see the details in this shot, but the pocket placement is pretty much perfect.

I like these a lot. I have another pair of the Rag & Bone Cate, and I know they wash and wear well and feel great on. I just think these might be a little too big.

They look good, but they felt roomy, and with this fabric content, I have a feeling they will stretch out. Generally, you want your jeans to fit pretty snug out of box because they will stretch a bit, even if they don’t bag out.

VERDICT: Undecided; I’d like to try the 27, but they’re sold out. I will try them again and see what I think after wearing them around for a little while.

also wearing: Madewell Tomboy V-Neck Tank in Etruscan Clay

LOFT Henley Linen Tee $34.50 + 40% off

This 100% linen top is has a flattering V-neck and feminine cap sleeves with a front Henley placket, and it’s 25 1/2″ long.

It comes in 5 colors, and it’s part of the current LOFT weekend promo: 60% off 4+ full-price styles, 50% off 3 full-price styles, or 4% off 1 or 2 full-price styles.

In a nutshell, I love this tee. It’s soft flattering and comfortable and has a nice drape.

I’ve had good luck with LOFT linen tees over the years; they tend to wash and wear very well… and I can’t always say that for LOFT products.

I have a hard time with their sweaters and cotton tees, but their linen is usually really good.

I like the straight hem, and the length is pretty versatile.

I will probably front tuck it most of the time.

I’d say this top fits TTS, but you could size up if in between. I’m wearing the small, and I like the fit, but if it shrinks at all, it could get tight across the chest.

I will wash in cold water on the delicate cycle and lay flat to dry, as I do all my linen tops.

VERDICT: Keeping!

also wearing: PAIGE Hoxton High-Rise Crop Skinny Jeans in Atterberry and Vince Hazen Sandals

BR Soft Satin V-Neck Top in Black Floral $41 $69.50

This satiny floral top has a double layer of ruffles at the sleeve and a flattering v-neck, and it’s 24.5″ long.

It also comes in petite (23.5″) and tall (26.5″) sizes, and it’s currently 40% off at Banana Republic.

The straight hem makes it perfect for tucking, and this floral print pairs beautifully with white jeans for summer. It also comes in several solid colors, if you prefer.

I really like the double ruffle on the sleeve, and it fits well around the armholes. The v-neck is deep enough to be flattering without sacrificing modesty.

I will say, it doesn’t have the best drape, but I still like it a lot. It just needs a good ironing before wearing it anywhere.

VERDICT: Keeping!

also wearing: 7 For All Mankind Roxanne Raw Hem Ankle Jeans with Stuart Weitzman Cadence Wedge Sandals

BR Soft Satin Ruffle Top in Black Floral $32 $64.50

This satiny floral top is similar to the one above, but this one has flutter sleeves and a drawstring hem with ruffle, and it’s 23″ long.

It also comes in petite and tall sizes, and there are some other color options available.

I thought the drawstring hem was fun for a change, but it’s a little too long on me, I think. I don’t like the way it bubbles over my muffin top… like I need any extra volume there! If I tried a petite, it would be too short around the arms and in the neckline.

It definitely needs to be ironed, so maybe I should try that before returning it, although I like the one above better and don’t really need both.

VERDICT: Returning.

Gap Softspun V-Neck Jumpsuit

This casual jumpsuit is made of a super soft jersey knit, and it has a straight silhouette with a relaxed fit. The fabric is 47% polyester, 47% rayon, 6% spandex.

It’s available in black and olive green, and it also comes in petite and tall sizes. It’s currently 40% off with code GAPFRIEND + extra 20% off with code ALLYOU.

I haven’t been a big jumpsuit fan, but this one I really like. For one thing, it is suuuuuper comfortable. It’s more loungewear than date night, but you could definitely wear this out and about.

It fits really well length-wise, without being too baggy or too short in the inseam area, and the back view checks out okay.

I don’t usually find elastic-waist jumpsuits to work well for me from behind, but this one is pretty good.

The short sleeves are almost a flutter sleeve, and the v-neck is flattering without being super wide or deep. It has a tie-belt at the waist and front slant pockets, and the elasticized cuffs just skim the ankle.

At first, I threw it on with black strappy flat sandals, which I like a lot, but I also like it styled with sneakers…

I wish I’d thought to throw a denim jacket on top, but I was short on time.

VERDICT: Keeping!

Marc Fisher Zala Pumps in Tan Suede $160 + 25% off

These 3″ block heel pointy toe pumps have a suede upper, leather and synthetic lining, and a leather sole. The clean lines and structural block heel keep them classic yet modern.

I already have these in black, and I ordered the tan suede when I saw them on sale. I love this pump because the pointy toe keeps it dressy, and the block heel keeps it walkable.

This is pretty much the perfect tan color, in my opinion. It has cool undertones, but it really should work for almost anyone.

There are a few left at Nordstrom for 40% off, or they’re 25% off at Bloomies. They run TTS; I have the 8.

  1. Great post! What size are you wearing in the BR soft satin ruffle tee? Thanks and Happy Mother’s Day!

  2. When you measure the rise of your jeans, do you measure from the crotch seam to the top of the front of the jeans, or do you measure from where the jeans fold in the crotch 🙁 to the top front of the jeans?  Hope that makes sense.

  3. hi and good morning! I was surprised your SIP was extended to June 4. That’s the first I’ve heard of anywhere going into June BUT here in CA were in until May 31st and it seems to extend once we get to a couple says before the expiry date. I don’t think we’re going anywhere in June.

I liked the Levi’s best on you. I love the color and non see through aspect and pocket placement.

    How is IF going?

    How are Ozzy and Savannah?

Last. I tried the foot mask based on someone’s recommendation and its been icky peeling. I’d love a post on nails hands and feet since it seems nail salons are community spread Hotspot and therefore not opening anytime soon in CA. Pls include color selection for warm and cool tones. Im warm, and selecting color feels like brain surgery complexity. I never know what to pick.

Happy Mothers Day and THANK YOU for your consistently high quality posts and information. You never lead me astray.

    1. I’m not doing much at all to my feet and hands right now. My daughter does my manicures with her gel light, which is awesome. I just lotion my feet and call it a day.

Ozzy and Savannah are still not exactly friends. They tolerate each other most of the time, but when Ozzy is really playful, they get into barking matches and we have to split them up.

IF is still going. Happy Mother’s Day to you too!

  4. When I took the AYW course, I tried multiple brands of jeans. Every pair had ripples, especially under the butt and in the thigh and knee. I was told to never buy jeans that rippled. I tried bigger sizes and smaller sizes. and couldn’t find a perfect fit. I need a 34” inseam so many brands are not long enough. I see you wear jeans that have ripples, so I am wondering if I should just ignore Kelly’s advice?

  5. Happy Mother’s Day weekend and I’m sorry to hear your stay at home as been extended. Things are starting to open in parts of Texas and since my daughter has to work this morning she asked if she could take me to breakfast and luckily our favorite breakfast restaurant was open for 25% capacity. There was no line and we got a table outside as were having a beautiful spring day today with temps in the 70s. It was the first time I’ve sat in a restaurant in six weeks or longer. It was a really nice treat. They had us put our phones on this barcode to view the menu so we didn’t have to touch menus and wait staff were wearing masks but super happy to be back at work. Okay on to the crop white jeans. I’ve ordered two pair, one from JCrew that Cyndi styled and the pair you got from Loft. Both in petite since I’m short and both going back. At first I thought it was just me, as they looked like they were too flare for my body type or height. But you had the exact same opinion on the Loft pair. So thank you! I’m going to try those Levi’s as the flare doesn’t look so dramatic. Maybe the 3rd time will be a charm. Otherwise I’m giving up. Lol

  6. I have that Banana Republic top and it “bubbles” around the midsection on me too. I will likely just wear it to work and will always have a blazer or top layer to hide the fluff it adds so I kept it. I got it for almost nothing with rewards and a sale so I didn’t want to hassle with returning it.

  7. Great post, thanks! Like the Levi’s the best too. Boy, Levi’s have gone up in price the last few years, haven’t they? Totally off subject but was wondering if you had suggestions for graduation gifts for the Class of 2020. For me, I’d prefer something geared towards young men and smaller, so I can ship. But I’ll take any suggestions. I searched your older posts and found the Christmas list for boys and that was a helpful but looking more current and for grads. My heart goes out to them for missing everything. Thanks!

  8. Your post prompted me to dig the Nordstrom email out of the Trash into my Inbox and read it…so glad I did. I scored an olive pair of high waisted Wit and Wisdom crops half price. I already had the grey and I love them. They wash to a very soft feel, almost like my husband’s cherished million years old 501s. He was doing distressed before distressed was even a name. Great finds and great haul.

  9. Thank you for the “Made in the USA” jeans options. Prefer to support local businesses. Sorry about your shelter in place till June 4th. Honestly, to make you feel better, our lives haven’t changed that much here even with tiny, gradual reopening. Still feels like shelter in place for us here. I went through Starbucks drive through which was the best coffee in ages! That was my “excitement” for the week between working and going home. Happy Mother’s day!🌸

  10. Hi Jolynne, What size are you wearing in the Paige jeans. Do they run TTS or stretch out? They are so cute on you! I finally got my BR slub cotton scoop neck t’s. Very cute but so glad I sized up as you recommended. I feel you on the SIP! I’m in the No. Cal Bay Area and our counties are not reopening; I will not be surprised if our SIP is extended, too, past May 31.

    1. I forgot to add that I’m pretty sure I have the Rag and Bone Cate’s that are at Nordstrom Rack right now. I think they are the ones featured at the Anniversary Sale last July. They fit TTS and are a really nice dark blue, no distressing or whiskering.  The fabric is pretty lightweight as it’s a blend.

  11. I was so excited to see a try-on haul! Am I the only one wondering if I should be buying spring clothing? We had a frost last night in Delaware with a high of 48 today. And for the last few years, it seems like we go from a chilly spring to a HOT summer. Will I have the opportunity to wear any spring clothes in public before it gets hot? I ordered the Gap jumpsuit this week. I have a sleeveless knit one that is almost identical that I bought to wear on a trip to Portugal last year. I wore it there multiple days and then home a lot so if this fits right, I know it will be a great purchase.

  12. Great Try-On Jo-Lynne! Thanks for trying  so many white jeans. I agree with you on the Levi’s, they look the best! I’m sorry your Stay at Home  order has been extended. We are supposed to start Phase 1 after May 15 which means there’s hope of getting into my salon before the month is over! Yay! Happy Mother’s Day to you!❤️

  13. Bloomies also has Extra10 that can be used on the Paige jeans to make the price even lower!  I got them for $151!

  14. Thank you for all the effort you put into creating these posts. Just my opinion here, but sometimes it seems maybe there are too many of the same thing in try on hauls, and how many people realistically are going to pay 125.00 for a pair of jeans? I really enjoy all your suggestions on how to make sure its a good fit etc. but more affordable options would be much more helpful to alot of us who want to look put together, but just simply don’t have the money (or desire) to spend on the clothes at the price point you show. Just a thought.

  15. You have me really curious about trying the Paige jeans. I just got in a super similar pair (Hoxton crop w/ torn back hems) and I love every single thing about them but the wash (Skylee). It’s very light, which is what I wanted, but it’s pretty flat with no whiskering and no dimension. I’ve worn a similar pair SO much this last year, I knew my next investment pair would be same style and fabric content. They are the perfect fit and feel for me. I may mull it over a couple days before I decide since there’s such a price difference, but I really love the wash on yours!

  16. Hi Jo-Lynne,

I ordered the Gap jumpsuit earlier this week and am eagerly awaiting the arrival. It looks great on you so I’m hoping the same. Thank you for always doing such a great job with your posts.

  17. Hi Jo-Lynne! Great Post! What size is the Gap jumpsuit? I think it would look great with a jean jacket!

  18. Boy, you definitely tried on some good items.  Thanks for taking the time to do this for us!

  19. Hi Jo-lynne,
I ordered the Paige Hoxton crop jeans you featured here…thank you for featuring them.  I have found that they are my go-to jeans for fit & fabric.
I have a question about the Madewell white high rise button front crop jeans you featured a couple weeks ago. I love the fit & fabric however the belt loops are very large & add bulk where I don’t need it nor do I ever wear a belt that wide…about 2.75” wide!  I have a couple other pair of Madewell jeans that aren’t like that.  I’m tempted to snip them off! 😅
Thank you for being creative during this shutdown!
