Summer Wedding Guest Dresses

It’s officially wedding season, and I’ve got requests pouring in for spring wedding guest dresses, so C and I are teaming up with Nordstrom today to share some summer wedding style inspiration with you.

Summer Wedding Guest Dresses from Eliza J and Astr The Label

After going years without attending a wedding, I have three weddings coming up this spring and summer, so I’ve actually been on the hunt for wedding guest attire myself!

I started my quest for spring wedding guest dresses at Nordstrom because they have such a wide selection of styles and price points. I can almost always find what I need in their dress department.

While I enjoy shopping in store, it can be overwhelming when you’re looking for something specific. I actually find it easier to find what I’m looking for online because I can drill down by style, price point, color, etc.

Nordstrom even has a whole section dedicated to wedding guest dresses, so that’s where I started.

The dress I’m wearing in this post is starting to sell out, so here are a few other styles that would look great with the accessories I paired with it, as well as a few jumpsuits:

This cap sleeve floral print sheath by Eliza J was one of the first dresses to catch my eye. The combination of teal, pink, and royal blue is unexpected, but it works.

I love the way the ruching is designed with flattering draped folds, and it’s stretchy and comfortable and so easy to slip on and go.

There’s a hidden zipper in the back, which keeps the dress simple and understated, and allows for a perfect fit. This dress runs true to size; for reference, I have it in the 8.

My first inclination was to pair this dress with nude shoes, but I love the striking contrast these bright pink shoes create.

There’s just enough pink in the dress to pull it all together, but these pumps are definitely a little bit unexpected, which is fun — especially for a special occasion.

I also found the perfect accessories at Nordstrom. These hammered metal drop earrings in the bold geometric shape add just the right amount of drama without competing with the dress.

They’re part of the new Kendra Scott summer collection, which is full of bold and beautiful pieces that can be dressed up or down. I love that I can wear these with casual outfits as well.

And this gorgeous bracelet is another piece from Kendra Scott’s summer collection. It comes with 4 different stone options, and I love the modern details — the abstract petal shape, subtle ridges, and easy hinge closure.

I was tempted to go with the Ivory Mop because it’s so versatile, but I couldn’t resist how well the Azalea Illusion complements my dress.

Finally, the white glazed leather clutch with optional drop-in chain strap is the perfect bag for all of your formal summer events, or it can be easily dressed down with jeans and a cute top for those occasions when you want a small bag.

I love this classy, colorful look for a spring or summer wedding, but it can also be worn for other occasions as well.

C also found the perfect dress at Nordstrom for the weddings we have coming up. She immediately honed in on this gorgeous lace midi dress by ASTR the Label.

This dress comes in a myriad of colors, but she was drawn to the lavender, which I think is a beautiful complement to her fair coloring.

It definitely runs small, as indicated on the website. She’s typically an XS, but she’s wearing a medium in this dress, and it’s a great fit.

She paired her dress with a pair of nude patent pumps she already had in her closet, but I can also see this dress with a pair of strappy sandals.

Her pumps came from Nordstrom just a few months ago, but they seem to be gone now. This pair is similar, and these are cute too.

She kept her accessories simple with gold hoops and a tiny gold pendant.

The pièce de résistance, however, is this adorable Kate Spade rattan bucket bag. Isn’t it such a sweet complement to her lace dress?

It was definitely a bit of a splurge, but with several special occasions coming up, as well as church and other events, I know she’ll get a lot of use out of it.

If you have a wedding or other dressy event to attend this summer, don’t forget that Nordstrom offers free shipping and free returns, and if you need your order quickly, you can always opt for the store pickup option. It’s super easy, and they’ll even bring your purchases out to your car for you if you text them before you arrive.

  1. What a great post! I love that you featured your daughter!! You both look gorgeous and special occasion ready 💙

  2. You two look beautiful! I love the dresses you both chose and the styling for them. I actually started to order the lace dress Caroline is wearing for a wedding I attended back in March. The weather was so iffy here then that I wasn’t sure what I’d wear over it if it happened to be freezing that night. What would you wear over it for a wedding? Either way, it’s a gorgeous dress and looks amazing on her!

    1. Two options I’ve seen used with a dressy dress are a pashmina shawl for cool temperatures  and a hip length sherpa or faux fur jacket for cold temps. I would have thought a sherpa jacket would be too casual but it worked in the light brown color that read “fur” when you saw it. The new faux fur jackets are a bit dressier than the sherpa jackets and have a kind of fringe-y look to them. This would be my first choice for colder weather.

  3. I am 58 and I also have episodes of labyrinthitis. No cause has ever been found. I always keep Bonine, a motion sickness medicine in my purse. While it doesn’t cure the vertigo, it helps a little for the dizziness. The main ingredient is meclizine which is what my MD would prescribe.
My most recent episode was 10 days ago.
    Hope you are doing better!

  4. First, so glad that your test results were good but you just have to listen to your body and know when to slow down. For now you can feel blessed to know that it was nothing serious. You and your daughter look beautiful in your dresses  and I love that she is willing to do these posts with you. I don’t wear dresses often but my daughter will be graduating in Dec and we have a wedding to attend in September, so I do need to start looking.

  5. That teal floral dress is gorgeous! I once read that teal is a universally flattering color on most complexions. So glad to hear that your MRI rules out anything serious or scary. Since your symptoms are annual around spring time, are allergies a possible factor? You may want to see an allergist to get some advice. Allegra keeps me going during pollen season.

    1. This is the only time it happened in spring, but I do think allergies played a part this time. I suppose if I’m prone to it, different things could trigger it each time? I dunno… just glad I don’t have anything serious going on. 🙂

  6. Two beautiful dresses!  And you both look so beautiful wearing them.  It makes me wish I had a dressy occasion coming up to need one!

  7. You both look so beautiful! I LOVE that you did a bright pink shoe with your dress 🙂 Have fun at all your weddings!

  8. Both of you look lovely in your pretty spring dresses. I love the colours and ruching details in your dress. It’s very flattering! Your daughter’s dress is perfect for a young lady. I think you’re right. Little strappy sandals would be perfect with the delicate lace.
I’m on the lookout for a lace one myself but I’d like a bit of a sleeve otherwise I feel chilled in air conditioned places. Now that you mentioned it, an online search might be the easiest route to go.

  9. Beautiful dresses and I love the pink shoes,, so nice that your daughter got to do the photo shot with you, following in her mom’s foot steps.

  10. That teal dress looks like it was made for you ! It fits you perfectly and those pink shoes make that outfit! Of course the nude shoes would look fine, but I think the pink ones make the outfit look much more interesting. Your daughter has great taste in clothing–she looks beautiful! Thanks for all the updates on items that are on sale.

  11. So glad to hear your MRI results came out ok! I’ve been thinking about you and wondering. I also have occasional vertigo, but I’ve never investigated it. Yours is probably more pronounced. Anyway, love both of these looks today! You both look great & very springy! Have a great day!

    1. Mine isn’t terribly severe, but it lasts a month each time it happens so it definitely gets old after a while. 🙂 I’m just relieved that there’s nothing serious to worry about.

  12. Caroline is lovely. I like it when she makes a guest appearance. It’s great to he able to point to your blog as a style and shopping reference for my own three daughters and my nieces.

  13. I, too, have a crazy number of weddings this year. Two this summer, and three in the fall. I am also on the hunt for wedding guest dresses! Thanks for the info!

  14. I’m so glad you styled a white clutch. My son is getting married in four weeks. I found a cobalt blue dress months ago, but finding shoes has been a real challenge! I have back/hip and foot issues so I need a low heel. I looked at a pair of white and silver shoes, but the salesperson said you can’t wear white to a wedding. I thought it was that you shouldn’t wear a white dress.

The dress you styled is lovely! The pink shoes with it, is brilliant! The dress I bought for the rehearsal is very similar to this—style wise, but has a blush background with splashes of florals in pinks, blues, green and a bit of red. Since the venue is booked for another wedding the evening before, we’re having it in the bride’s parents’ backyard. I hope I’m not overdressed?

    1. Hm, I would definitely not wear a white dress to a wedding, but I never thought about the shoes and bag. I think that should be okay.

I don’t think you should worry about being overdressed. You are the hostess. Have fun!

      1. Thanks so much for your input, Jo-Lynne. I truly appreciate it! BTW, you gave your daughter a very pretty name. I often get called Caroline, rather than Carolynn and I don’t mind. 😊

  15. Love both the dresses, and those pink pumps are gorgeous with the teal dress.  Your daughter is adorable, and definitely the strappy sandals over those patent beige pumps, as those pumps look too matronly on her.  Love that your daughter joined you with the dress pics!

  16. I was wondering if it’s okay to wear a nice skirt and blouse with a cardigan. I have a very hard time finding a dress that I like and fits me well. I’m petite (size 2-4) but 1-2 sizes smaller on top. To make it worse I don’t care for anything without at least cap sleeves (even thick straps I feel too bare in), anything lower than a v-neck style is usually too low that it’s inappropriate, and lastly I don’t like anything above my knee. If I can even find something that fits those specifications, it usually goes wrong on the color and does not complement my pale coloring. Ugh! Dress shopping is the worst and I’m about giving up and going for a nice navy pleated midi skirt with a blouse. I wished there were more dresses with more coverage.

    1. I think ultimately you need to wear what you feel good in. As long as the style of the outfit fits the formality of the event, there’s nothing that says you have to wear a dress. 🙂
