Springtime Makeup Tutorial

burts-bees-1

I don’t know about you, but in the spring and summertime, I don’t want to deal with heavy makeup. If I go out at night during the warmer months, I definitely wear full coverage foundation and do up my eyes, but for my daily makeup routine, I’m all about lightweight products that give more of a natural glow than a heavily made-up look.

Today I’m teaming up with EcoTools® and Burt’s Bees® to share an easy daytime makeup routine for spring and summer featuring Burt’s Bees® NEW BB Cream with SPF 15, Burt’s Bees® NEW lipsticks, and EcoTools® makeup brushes.

First of all, I have to say, I’m thoroughly impressed with these brushes. I’ve spent a lot of money on some of my makeup brushes, and these affordable EcoTools® brushes are right up there in the quality department. Plus, they are hand-crafted with soft, cruelty-free bristles and sleek bamboo handles, and even the packaging is made with 100% tree-free paper.

You can purchase the EcoTools® brushes and Burt’s Bees® makeup products in the Beauty section of Walmart stores.

For this natural makeup routine, I start with Burt’s Bees® BB Cream because it provides instant, lightweight coverage, plus it firms and conceals fine lines and wrinkles. It is available in 3 mineral-rich shades — Light, Light/Medium, and Medium. I’m wearing the Light/Medium, but when I start tanning, I will probably want to change to the Medium.

I start by applying the BB Cream with the EcoTools® Skin Perfecting Makeup Brush. This brush is specifically designed to smoothly and evenly apply the Burt’s Bees® BB Cream, and the rounded edge is ideal for precise coverage around the eyes and nose.

I apply the BB Cream all over my face in light strokes, and then I go back and apply more of the product in circular motions to cover up the areas that are red or discolored. I have some rosacea and sun spots, so I like to go back over my face and apply a bit more in those areas.

The nice thing about the Burt’s Bees® BB Cream is that it includes moisturizing and skin firming proprieties as well as SPF protection, so there’s no need to apply a moisturizer or sunscreen first. You can put the BB Cream right on your freshly washed face and continue with your makeup routine. Plus, their products are free of parabens, pthalates, petrolatum, and SLS, and they are never tested on animals.

I tend to have dark circles and bags under my eyes, so I always follow up the BB Cream with a concealer. The EcoTools® Pointed Concealer Brush is perfect for this task, and blends the concealer right into my skin so it looks natural.

This brush comes in the 6-piece EcoTools® Day-to-Night Brush Set, which includes five brushes that come packaged in a small clutch bag.

Next I use the EcoTools® Highlighting Fan Brush to apply highlighter to the tops of my cheekbones.

Then I apply bronzer under the cheekbones and into my temples with the Blending and Bronzing Brush. I also like this brush to blend the entire face after applying blush to the apples of my cheeks.

After that, I fill in my eyebrows and apply two coats of mascara. It’s important to let your mascara dry between coats; otherwise your lashes get gloppy. Yes, that’s a technical term. Ha!

I may or may not add eyeliner, depending on how much time I have.

The final step is lipstick. Burt’s Bees® new lipsticks are available in 14 full coverage, satin-finished shades that hydrate and moisturize the lips with a natural formula featuring beeswax, moringa oil, and raspberry seed oil.

I love how smooth and easy these lipsticks go on. I combined Lilly Lake and Tulip Tide to achieve this natural color.

And that’s it!

This casual, lightweight spring and summer makeup routine should take you no more than 10 minutes, and you will feel polished and put together all day long.

  1. Thanks for the post about Burt’s Bees BB cream! I love their products and have been wanting to purchase something light for spring and summer. Brushes look great too.

  2. Saw the photo above where you’re putting the cream directly on the brush and thought, “Whoa…what!?”

How have I lived half a lifetime and escaped all this knowledge?

    Thanks for sharing!!

  3. You look lovely! I, too, would like to know exactly what you use for concealer. I have a problem with dark circles and combined with dark hair, they are hard to disguise without getting the “raccoon” look! =}

    Love the make-up tips!

    Pam

  4. You look like you are not wearing a heavy foundation. Everything looks very natural. The lip color is one I want to try.

  5. Your makeup looks great! Thanks for the tips! I hope you will share the other products you used, the blush, bronzer, eyebrow, eyeliner and mascara!

  6. Love this post. Can’t wait to try Burts Bee products. Thank you. I use blush & bronzed. What exactly is a highlighter?

  7. I have had my eye on these brushes at Walmart and just haven’t purchased them yet. Now I will! Your tutorial was helpful.. Some brands have a gazillion different brushes and it gets confusing and overwhelming on how to use them.
Also the 10th photo down…..those lower lashes! I wish mine looked like that. What brand of mascara do you use?

  8. Just got back from Walmart. I bought the Burt’s Bees BB cream, the lipstick in Lily and the Radiance body lotion. I’m going to be rocking the natural, healthy look tomorrow ????

  9. How does the Burts Bees BB compare to Goop CC cream that you’ve reviewed in an older post? I use the Goop and love it but may want to try the Burts if you think it wears better because I can buy it locally but the Goop I have to order online.

Also, do you “set” the BB cream and concealer with a powder and if so what do you use?

Thanks for another helpful post 🙂
