Springtime, you are SUCH a tease!

Every year I dread the spring tease.  I am prepared for it.  I know it’s coming.  But it never ceases to get me.  And this year it got me again.

Up until last week, I really thought spring had sprung.  Most of April was quite nice.  It wasn’t as warm as I like, but it was nice enough for the kids to play outside for most of the month.  I had put away all the winter gear and christened the grill with my favorite gourmet burgers (recipe to come).

And then this week happened.  When the temperatures dropped, I dug out the sweatshirts and long sleeves that had barely been packed away and traded the grill for the crockpot.  And here I sit, the first week of May, wearing double layers, wondering if the warm weather will ever be here to stay.

Despite this weekend’s foreboding weather forecast, yesterday evening turned out to be quite nice.  In fact, last night we even had the first impromptu neighborhood driveway happy hour of the season, as my neighbor Kim brought out a bucket of frozen mojitos and a stack of plastic cups for the adults to pass around, and her kids raided the freezer and shared Popsicles with all of their little compatriots.

But today it is dark and cold, and I even skipped out on my son’s baseball game at the last minute after my husband called from the ballpark to advise me to stay in the comfort of home.  I didn’t need any more convincing.

Next week’s weather promises to improve, and I’m sure I will once again get my hopes up and declare that winter is gone for good.  Please feel free to knock me down a peg or two.  Maybe one of these years, I’ll learn.

Hey, what do you think of the changes I made here on the ol’ blawg?  I’m trying to streamline and de-clutter.  What do you think of the sidebars?  And are the little purses too busy?  I’m thinking they are.

  1. Ha, I was just going to comment and say this looks much better, before I even got to your asking. So now you know 🙂

I hear ya on the weather; we must be within two hours of you…

  2. I like the little purses…they are cute and creative.

    Keep em! 🙂

    Have a happy weekend.

  3. I like the look. In fact, since my free blog design has never happened I’m thinking of asking Husband to buy me a new design from you. We’ll see.

I hope warm weather makes its way to you for good soon. We have had unusually mild weather here, not too hot or cold. Don’t hate me for it. 😉

  4. We have just had a wonderfully mild, sunny afternoon here! It was windy, but it was a warm wind 🙂 Spent it on the beach. Hope the warmer weather comes back to you soon.

    I like the cute purses.

  5. I like it, just may take me awhile to adjust, change is so hard. Our weather has been odd, too. It was windy, cloudy and chilly all day, at least it didn’t rain.

  6. You made the right call on the baseball game. Man, it was CHILLY today there! And I was totally fooled this year as well, as always. I really didn’t think I would have to turn the heat on again!

  7. I hear you! I’m in Texas and you’d think that by the first week in May it’d be safe to put all of the cold stuff away. Apparently not- we froze this morning at my son’s soccer game because I didn’t realize it was going to be 50 degrees at game time. Thankfully I had a blanket in the van.

  8. I know! I’ve learned never to put away the sweatshirts. It was SO nice, and it’s been SO dreary all week long. We even planted some veggies last weekend, and they actually died because of the low evening temps.

I don’t know if I would have noticed the purses unless you asked, but since you did point them out, they are a little busy.

  9. I really like the change and I LOVE the purses. I don’t think it looks too busy at all.

The weather just seems to be crazy this year. Even here in the deep south it was quite cool today. I had my back door open and even got chilly a few times. What is awesome though, is I was able to turn the oven on and the house didn’t get hot! We didn’t need sweatshirts, but it was definitely a bit strange to be this cool in May! But I’m not complaining since I’m the total opposite of you and hate the heat!!!

  10. It must be spring clean up – I cleaned up my sidebar as well. I like all the little purses. I wouldn’t add anymore, I think you have the perfect amount (I think it would be fun if some were sriped, checked, etc.)

We haven’t had the “tease” yet. They just started baseball practice. Glad I’m not the only one who gets phone calls that say – uuhhhh yeah, you may wannna skip this one. haha

  11. It’s like that around here too. In fact today I got a sunburn but sometime this month we’ll still have a dump of spring snow.

  12. Like your changes, can find things better. I think the purses are small enough that they aren’t too much. As far as the spring tease . . . we never had one, it was winter straight through in Minnesota until today. After a blizzard last weekend and the forecast for snow showers this morning, we cheered at the sunny day in the 50’s!
