February 2018 Stitch Fix Review + $1200 Stitch Fix Giveaway

Greetings, friends. Happy Friday Eve! Today I’m super excited to team up with a bunch of other bloggers for a $1200 Stitch Fix Giveaway. That’s right, $1200 — I did NOT accidentally add a zero! I’m also sharing my most recent Stitch Fix Review.

February 2018 Stitch Fix Review featuring 41 HAWTHORN Valentina Faux Leather Trim Blouse, BANCROFT Marcia Leaf Drop Earrings, FRENCHMAUVE Melanie Knit Tunic Blazer, 41 HAWTHORN Poppi Textured Pullover & LE LIS Maura Zip Pocket Detail Skirt | Jo-Lynne Shane | Fashion for Women Over 40 | Stitch Fix Outfits

I will be honest, over the years Stitch Fix has been hit or miss for me, but lately they’ve been trying to up their game, and I like some of the changes they’ve made so I decided to try it again. For one thing, you can exchange things now when they’re the wrong size. That’s a nice edition. They’ve also added some higher quality premium brands to their lineup, as well as Stitch Fix for Men.

I updated my profile and ordered a box, and they did a pretty good job. I was hoping to see some higher end styles, but what the did send is cute and affordable.

I did a try-on session over the weekend and shared it on my Insta Story, and I also took pictures so I could share them with you. Also, you can make requests from your Stitch Fix stylist if you like anything you see here, so I’m including the names of these pieces for you.

Stitch Fix Review February 2018

The first item I tried on is this 41 HAWTHORN Valentina Faux Leather Trim Blouse in a medium. It has a nice shape to it and a modest v-neck, and I like the faux leather trim, but it’s a size too big and I don’t think I love it enough to exchange it, but I bet it would look good tucked into a black pencil skirt with a blazer or cardigan on top if you need work wear. I just threw it on with black jeans and pumps, which is how I’d be more likely to wear it.

The sent me these BANCROFT Marcia Leaf Drop Earrings that are really cute. They have all 3 metals — rose gold, yellow gold, and silver. They’re lightweight and just enough bling to stand out without being too statementy. #istooaword

I hemmed and hawed and debated about this FRENCHMAUVE Melanie Knit Tunic Blazer. Opinions were mixed on my Insta Story. It’s cute and I like the 3/4 sleeves, but it’s kind of long in the back. Some called it matronly, but others thought it was flattering. What do you think? For reference, this is a medium.

I knew as soon as I opened the box that I’d love this 41 HAWTHORN Poppi Textured Pullover, and I do. For size reference, it’s a medium. It’s a great neutral oatmeal color, and I love the pattern in the knit. It’s soft and comfortable and skims the body without being clingy. I can totally see this under a utility jacket this spring.

Finally, this LE LIS Maura Zip Pocket Detail Skirt is SO cute. I usually struggle with having the right top to pair with skirts, but right now I happen to have a black sweater that works perfectly with this little a-line number. The skirt is flowy and soft, and you just pull it on. Best of all, it has a really cute red pocket detail. Sorry, you can’t see it very well in these pictures. Red shoes or a red bag would really pop this look.

Overall I think they did a really good job, and I’m pleased. I was very specific about wanting structured pieces that work best for my body type, and they definitely tried to accommodate that.

If you don’t already have an account with Stitch Fix, you can join HERE. I assume most of you are familiar with how it works, but basically it’s an online styling service. You fill out your Style Profile, and a personal stylist selects pieces to fit your tastes, needs, and budget, and mails them directly to your door. At the time your Stylist selects your items, you will be charged a $20 styling fee. That $20 will be applied as a credit toward anything you keep from your shipment.

Each box contains five items of clothing, shoes, and accessories for you to try on at home. Take three days to decide what you’ll purchase and what you’d like to send back. Buy what you like and return the rest in a prepaid USPS envelope. Shipping and returns are free—even for exchanges, and you’re only charged for items you choose to keep when you check out.

WIN A $1200 Stitch Fix Gift Card!

  1. Love the skirt! That one sweater is cute, but not a color which attracts me. The jacket — I think it’s pretty cute. I think it depends on how you style it, it didn’t come off as matronly to me. I haven’t been wowed in the past by Stitch Fix, but I will have to say this post tempts me to give them a try.

  2. I really liked that black blazer that’s longer in the back. It looks really good with those skinny jeans. Very flattering!

  3.  I love the poppy textured sweater and the skirt! I hope you’re keeping those for sure! I think the blazer was really cute and I don’t think it looks matronly because it supposed to be a little looser I think. But maybe for you you need to go down a size? I’ve tried Stitch Fix before too and kind of the same thing it’s really hit or miss. I don’t know how many times I told my stylist no sleeveless and I think in every single box they sent something sleeveless. ???? But I do like that the majority of their pieces are at pretty affordable price points. I had quit using them but after seeing your stuff maybe I’ll give them another shot. Thanks for sharing your try on session.

I hope everything‘s OK with your daughter and that all went well at her appointment. Bless you!

  4. I love the sweater! I do Stitch Fix and nownthey learned to only send me higher end brands.  I usually only buy one piece per Fix but i have splurged when I loved it all!   I have a Fix coming in a day or 2 with things from Splendid, Bella Dahl and Bailey 44.  Last month my keepers were a pair of DL1941s and the cutest Vince Camuto booties. I think you just have to get them to know what you like and are willing to spend.
Great post ! Thanks for sharing!

  5. I love the outfit with the blue top and the longer jacket.  The top, while a size too large, is nice and flowy.  The jacket, because its longer in the back helps elongate your body and you look taller than when you wear shorter tops that cut your body in half.  I know it’s personal preference.  I’m 5’9″ and still try to get that longer look… and covering my bum is always a plus!
    Have an awesome day!

  6. I’m on the fence about that blazer. I think it looks really flattering from the angled view, but I’m not as crazy about it from the front. In my last fix (I usually get one every 2-3 months), I requested 1-2 premium items, and I got three, two of which were Splendid. I’m wearing the Splendid hoodie today, as a matter of fact. Love it! I didn’t keep the sweater because of price, and I didn’t love it. For the price, I needed to love it. Really excited about the give-away! 🙂 And btw, that oatmeal sweater looks adorable! I may have to pin that. 😉

  7. I love all the pieces you received in your box. I really liked the skirt. I know you rarely wear a skirt or dress. I only wear these on a Sunday and I don’t every Sunday. But….that being said I do believe women look better in skirts and dresses. I think men prefer that look. As women age I notice we wear more pants. If you go to an event with mostly women over 60, you will nothing but pants. lol That fact makes me feel guilty for wearing pants all the time. Am I the only one thinking this way?

  8. Hi! I’ve wanted to try Stitch Fix but I have such a hard time fitting myself sometimes, I can’t imagine they would get it right! Maybe one day I will try… I love the oatmeal sweater with the jeans and boots and the skirt! It looks so good on you. I’m not crazy about the blazer… if you needed a blazer, then it’s a more modern take, but I don’t really like it for casual wear. Thanks for all you do to help us look and feel our best! Have a great day!!

  9. The Blazer did give you the matronly look, just not you. I did like the rest of the looks. Didn’t realize there was so many fashion and tips bloggers, enjoyed checking them out.

  10. I loved the black blazer on you. I thought it was very flattering and not matronly at all. Very chic looking!

  11. I think the knit blazer is cute. Pair it with a lace cami for date night or a tee for daywear. But, you have to go with how you feel in it.
This was a good stitch fix unwrap. I like it all!

  12. Okay, I see the blazer is getting mixed reviews … but I happen to REALLY like it on you.

I’m also liking the idea of a more budgety box, but I just followed your lead and finally ordered one from Trunk Club… After seeing what they’re sending me, I may already need to begin money laundering.

  13. I love all these items. Love your posts! I can’t seam to get the links for the stich fix items on this post today to work.

    1. They aren’t links. They don’t have a traditional e-commerce site. You only get their clothes as a part of their box service. I just shared the names in case anyone wanted to request them. 🙂

  14. I have recently started stitch fix and didn’t have a great experience either box I’ve gotten.  I’ve gone back into the stylist page, adjusted sizes (I’ve lost 43 pounds, gone down almost 3 sizes) and yet not one thing changed in my sizing.  I was not happy with their lack of “paying attention” to the size detail.  So I’m not sure I’ll continue on with them, but IF I win the $1200….that would work.  LOL!

I did think the blue top and the jacket were super cute; loved the skirt.  So looks like you may have had a very successful box.  Congrats.  Thanks for all you do to keep us girls looking as good as possible.  You’re amazing.

  15. Not a fan of the blazer.  Too long.  Looks like you are trying to hide something.  You have too great of a figure to hide anything
     —  I think your leather jacket styles are more spot-on.  Everything else is nice, but especially like that oatmeal sweater–would look great with some leopard heels 🙂

  16. I’ve never tried Stich Fix before but have always been soooo curious about it all and may just give it a try????

  17. I voted no on the blazer on instagram but didn’t comment as to why….. I think the blazer looks good on you but I don’t think it’s “you”. I think you might wear it once and then it will get donated so that money is better off used toward a great pair of shoes. 😉

  18. I think your mo eye would be better spent on something other than the black blazer.  I love everything else on you, especially the oatmeal sweater and the skirt.  Have a blessed day!

  19. I really, really like the oatmeal sweater. Not a fan of the knit tunic jacket. Maybe it’s the tank worn under it. I’ve never tired Stitch Fix and I’m not on Twitter or Instagram. Can you enter the contest via email or by commenting on your Blog?

  20. Cute top, pullover, and skirt. Jacket not so much. I received stitch fix as a gift and the first time was disasterous, 2nd time OK, 3 rd time OK. I feel their price point is higher than I like to pay.   It us a great service for people who have limited time to shop.

  21. LOVE the oatmeal pullover. Have actually been looking for a structured but interesting sweater like that in creme or blush. Too bad you can’t order it separately. 🙁

    1. I know, but maybe that will change some day! 🙂 Or I wonder if you can ever find their stuff on ebay. I’ve never looked, but if people buy something and decide they don’t like it… they may try to sell on Poshmark or Ebay.

  22. I use Stitch fix. My last fix was awful. This was the first time this happened. Even when you ask for more affordable options, I still average $48.00 a piece. I’m a bargain shopper of high end names, these pieces aren’t usually in my price range. I do normally keep 1 piece out of my fix, most of the time it’s the jewelry. This time I wasted my styling fee. I only get a fix every other month, I hope my next fix will be better.

    1. They’ve definitely been hit or miss for me over the years. I’m not sure they’re the best place if you’re a bargain shopper of high end names. They’re prices are a little high for the quality, in my opinion, but I think it’s a great service for women too busy or disinterested to shop. And they do have some brands you can’t find in stores, so you get some variety that way too. 🙂

  23. First let me say thanks for putting the Post Comment boxes at the beginning! Soooo much better.
Love the oatmeal sweater; is there a link to it? I am on the fence about the blazer too. I betcha it would look good with white jeans and another blouse or T

    1. So glad you like the change! No, I can’t link to anything on Stitch Fix. They don’t have a traditional e-commerce site. You only get their clothes as a part of their box service.

  24. I enjoy splurging on a stitch fix box each year around my birthday. So far I’ve enjoyed wearing everything they’ve sent me. It actually ends up saving me money & time instead of having to go out to the mall.

  25. I already mentioned this during your fb live, but I thought this was a pretty impressive fix -especially for having taken a long break. Most pieces seemed to really fit your style, except maybe the blazer because of the length. I actually thought it was pretty flattering on you though.

  26. Just got my first StitchFix box today. I do not like shopping and after 20+ years wearing the uniform, I know zero about fashion. I’m hoping this will help me learn how to dress for my civilian career.
I LOVE the beige sweater and the adorable skirt and blouse combo!
$1200 would be a true blessing!

  27. Re the blazer, if you don’t love it you’ll always end up wearing something else instead. I’d leave it and wait until you find one you absolutely love. Just my two cents 🙂

  28. A little late for the sweepstakes, lol but I’m ok with that. I had just seen an ad for Stichfix and went looking for reviews. Found your site first. I’m really digging that oatmeal color sweater. You paired it very well with those jeans and booties. I have a question. When it comes to their jewelry, is it 100% gold? You know, none of that overlay stuff? I’m REALLY picky when it comes to my jewelry. I just won’t waste my money on fashion jewelry so everything has to be 100% real, even gemstone pieces. I tried to look up the brand of earrings you posted but nothing came up though I was able to find a price on the oatmeal sweater. For those who asked in the comments, I did find links that will send you to people who are selling theirs like on Poshmark, etc. Thanks for the great read. I’ll be bookmarking your site. Looking forward to checking out some of the other blogs listed as well. Have a great weekend ahead…
