Striped Chenille Sweater + Slip-On Sneakers

Happy Saturday, friends. Welcome back to 26 Days of Fall Fashion! Today I’m styling the softest striped chenille sweater with slip-on sneakers and distressed black jeans.

Jo-Lynne Shane wearing a striped chenille sweater with slip-on sneakers and distressed black jeans.

This sweater is the BB Dakota brand from Social Threads, and it is soooo soft and cozy. Seriously, I want to sleep in this thing. Even though it has a slightly oversized silhouette and drop shoulders, it doesn’t add a lot of visual weight. It just looks (and feels) relaxed and comfortable.

I really like the length, and side slits are always a nice detail. I also like the stripe placement; it’s a little different than most striped sweaters I’ve seen lately.

Basically this is the perfect pull-on-and-go top to make you feel confident and put together in less than 30 seconds.

For size reference, this sweater is a medium. I’m afraid a small would be too short for me, and it’s supposed to be slightly oversized so I think it’s the right size. I tend to wear small or medium, depending on the brand, so if you’re in between, you’ll probably want to size up, especially if you’re taller than my 5’5″.

For anyone new to Social Threads, they’re a mom-owned online retailer that provides a carefully edited selection of clothing that is practical and and stylish. You may remember that I styled an off-the-shoulder dress from them back in May. If you’ve never ordered from Social Threads before, you can get 10% off your first order with code NEWTHREADS10.

Since this sweater is ivory with black stripes, I styled it with distressed black jeans and black slip-on sneakers. It would also be fun with blue jeans and those red boots I styled last week, or I can also see wearing it with my burgundy or pine green jeans and loafers. So many possibilities.

SALE ALERT >> It’s the Friends & Family Sale at Bloomingdale’sTake 25% off a great selection of items with code FRIENDS, and Loyallists get a $25 Reward Card for every $100 you spend on select items. These offers are valid online September 29-October 9, 2017 and in store October 2-9, 2017. Plus free shipping for everyone during Friends & Family.

FYI, these AG legging ankle jeans are 25% off right now at Bloomingdale’s along with most of their denim department. Also, this pair of Joe’s icon ankle jeans is very similar to my AG pair except with no raw hem, and they have a lower starting price plus the 25% off.

If you like black jeans but don’t like distressing, I just discovered this Hudson Nico style that I’ll be featuring next week. They have a slightly higher rise, which is nice, and the same inseam length and leg opening as the Joe’s and AG styles linked above. (I am confident that the leg opening measurement for the AG pair on the Bloomies website is wrong. It’s 10″ b/c all AG legging ankle jeans are about 10″ and mine are definitely not 14″.)

Sizing Note: Hudson, Joe’s, and AG all run true to size. I typically wear a size 28 in all 3 brands, and I’m a size 6 at Loft and Gap, for reference.

So these shoes are a new style for me. I’ve stayed away from the slip-on sneaker trend until now, but suddenly I’m hooked.

When I was shopping the Nordstrom Anniversary Sale back in July, a sales associate in the shoe department tried to convince me to consider a pair of Vince slip-on sneakers and told me how popular they were going to be and how comfortable and versatile they are. I took one look at them and moved on. They just didn’t excite me at all. But for some reason, this style caught my eye when I was shopping a couple of weeks ago.

I tried them on, and they are sooo comfortable and sleek. I was sold, but sizes were limited at Nordstrom so I came home and hunted around online and ended up ordering them from Bloomingdale’s because they had my size and they were running a sale. Now they’re pretty much gone everywhere except for at Saks Off Fifth. If you want a pair, grab them because they’re disappearing everywhere else and I doubt they’ll last long here. That said, I got mine for $80, so you may find them cheaper if you wait, but it’s a gamble.

I wore these shoes all day on Thursday after shooting this look, and I love them. They’re super comfortable, and I just think they have such a cool, sophisticated vibe for a sneaker. Plus I love that I can slip them on and go. They’re definitely going to be on repeat this fall.

SALE ALERT >> It’s also Friends & Family at Saks Off Fifth. This is a Buy Now, Save Later situation. Spend $150, get a $30 gift card, spend $250, get a $50 gift card, or spend $400, get an $80 gift card PLUS free shipping on all orders with code FRIENDS

It’s not the best sale I’ve seen lately, but if you like to shop there, you can save a few bucks on a future purchase. I’ve only recently started looking at the off-price retailers online, and you can definitely get some sweet deals on designer brands.

I’ve rounded up some other black slip-on sneakers since these are kind of pricey. Some of these are suede and most are not backless, but this is just what I found with a quick search. I’ll be on the lookout for others that are backless.

I kept my accessories simple since this is a casual outfit.

I opted for no necklace since the striped sweater is busy enough to stand alone, in my opinion, and I wore small two-tone drop earrings. I love these earrings for casual everyday wear. They’re a little more fun than a simple stud, but they’re still understated and versatile.

I added my go-to silver link bracelet and mixed metal watch, and I wore my Moonbow sunnies in the White Tokyo with Gloss Black frames.

Finally, I carried a black satchel with silver hardware. I love this bag; it’s such a great size, and it has that classy with a side of edgy flair that I love. It’s the R Minkoff Mini Perry satchel, and I ordered mine on Amazon last year because it was sold out everywhere else. There are some questions in the comments about the authenticity, but I’m pretty sure mine is authentic. I’ve had quite a few RM bags over the years, and this one is comparable.

I love this look — so easy and comfortable but chic and pulled together.

It’s really hard to believe that tomorrow is the LAST DAY of 26 Days of Fall Fashion 2017! I don’t know about you, but this series flew for me. I think I always say that, but for some reason, every week in September has felt like a minute.

Don’t worry, this isn’t the end of fall fashion here on the blog. I’m really excited that the weather is finally conducive to actually wearing all of the fall clothes I’ve been styling for the past month, and I have plenty more fall outfits to come. Plus I’m looking forward to getting back to creating other types of fashion and beauty content as well.

Cyndi and I plan to wrap up 26 Days of Fall Fashion tomorrow. We don’t usually post outfits on Sundays, but we missed a day and we want to finish strong and not lose momentum here at the end, so we’ll be back tomorrow with our 26th outfit! We’re planning to share something we’d wear to church.

Now be sure to visit Cyndi and see the fall outfit she’s styling today, and enjoy the rest of your weekend!

  1. The perfect outfit for this cooler weather. I love a chenille sweater. They are comfortable enough to sleep in, although I never would because I would be too hot. Ha, ha. Love those slip on sneakers. I’ve been seeing many versions of those around. Enjoy your activity today and have a great weekend. – Amy

  2. Really cute outfit on you-I’m in PA as well loving this cool weather-were headed up to Niagara Falls today just for the day-never been and kids want to use their new passports ????

  3. I bought a pair quite a while ago. They are so comfortable. I decided to use mine as slippers. I really like the black pair you’ve shown. I might have to get them, too. Lol
Thanks for the link up to black jeans that aren’t ripped. I just don’t feel comfortable wearing torn clothes, trending or not. Chalk it up to my OCD. Lol
Love a chenille sweater. My daughter bought me one in white with navy stripes from BR. Love it!

    1. No shame in that. Ripped jeans aren’t for everyone. I actually am starting to gravitate to the styles that have some modest distressing but no rips. These are a couple of years old. The newest trend I’m seeing is big gaping holes in the knee. I am not a fan of that look at all. Call me Grannie. LOL!

  4. Really cute outfit!  I like slides because my heel is so skinny, making it a challenge sometimes to find shoes that don’t rub up and down.  Have a great weekend!  It’s hard to believe Oct. 1st is tomorrow and Christmas is a little over two months away.

  5. I love this look! The sweater looks so soft and comfortable. I have a pair of the Vince slip on shoes (not backless) and love them but have an embarrassing problem with them…
Question: My pair of Vince slip on tennis shoe (not backless) when I walk make a “farting”noise! Oh my gosh I just can’t seem to wear them outside of the house because of this sounds. Any thoughts on how to fix this embarrassing problem?

  6. Just bought a pair o UGG slip on sneakers the other day and have been impressed with the comfort and versatility! Bought them with the hope of wearing them for an upcoming trip but they will definitely get a lot of wear before then?
