Stuff.

I have never felt less like blogging than I do today. Yesterday I attended the memorial service for a friend — a young mom like me. It was absolutely heartbreaking. I came home and hugged my kids and just vegged. Or tried, anyway. I don’t veg easily. Plus, life and responsibilities don’t allow for much vegging these days — which was entirely too evident when I realized that I had almost forgotten my son’s band camp and then had to scramble to clear my house of neighborhood children and get him to where he needed to be. A day late and a dollar short . . . that is pretty much how I roll.

We are in the throws of doggie search, which has been a nice diversion, yet not stress-free by any means. My kids are dying to get a dog. Right. Now. But it is all so very confusing. Who knew there were so many issues surrounding the choice of dog?

Summer is almost over. HOW did that happen? It is time to start shopping for school supplies and thinking about fall sports and lessons schedules. As stressful as summer can be for a mom working from home, I am not really looking forward to the structure of fall. I kinda like our lazy/crazy days. And I love warm weather. I’m just not ready the chill of winter.

We have taken a TV Detox here at Casa de Musings this week. It’s amazing what the kids find to do when there is no TV to watch. Of course, there is still plenty of whining to go along with it, but I am happy to see them doing crafts and playing board games.

Today I’m taking the afternoon off to go to the pool and get together with a friends. This weekend I have long over-due date with a good friend, and we are planning to go to a fun family festival at a local park.

I want to make sure these last two weeks of summer don’t pass by in a blur.

How about you? Are your kids back in school yet? If not, what are you doing to enjoy the last days of summer?

  1. Sorry to hear. My (longest known — almost 40 years!) friend passed in January. More sad for her kids than anything. Cancer is an evil disease!

  2. My older two started school this week. Now lessons and karate and all that stuff is back in full swing. We’ll be taking this weekend to just relax – the kids are so tired during those first few weeks back that they need some weekend veg time!

  3. My kids went back to school last Thursday. The last couple of weeks before school we tried to do some fun things with the kids. I love fall. I love warm but coolish days and chilly nights. And I thrive on the structure of the school year. =)

  4. So sorry about your friend. I hate to hear when young people pass away. So sad. So sad for their families.

Best wishes on your dog search. I’m sure you’ll find the perfect pet for your family.

  5. Sorry to hear about your friend Jo-Lynne…praying for that family. Hope you get to enjoy the last weeks of summer…we’re trying to do that to!

  6. Sorry to hear about your friend. And yes, the summer seems to have evaporated! My son starts school next Wed. and Daughter two weeks later, and with baseball tryouts, dance signups, etc. my head is already spinning! Have a great couple of weeks!

  7. Sorry about your friend, sweetheart.

Strangely, you are, like, the FOURTH person I’ve read recently who has taken a TV break like us. Isn’t that weird and funny and weird? Like we’re all in-tune with one-another, y’know?

I am still in denial that summer is coming to a close 🙁

  8. Thinking of you!!!
The boys, all three, go back next Wednesday-boo hoo-literally, I was up crying about it at 3 am. I have decided I hate school and especially hate all day kindergarten. I am so not ready for fall, I want summer to last forever-so unlike me, usually I can’t wait for fall.
I’ll get a little more summer when we leave for the beach in two weeks.

    1. That’s why I homeschool. Always have. Starting my 13th year. Don’t regret one minute of it. Questions? Go to Sonlight.com.

  9. Sorry for the loss of your friend. So sad….on the dog front, we have 2 Goldendoodles. Harvey is 8 and Hattie is 8 months old. They are the friendliest, smartest dogs! Both were easily trained and very good with my boys. We wouldn’t trade them for the world! Email me if you want more info 🙂

  10. Regarding dogs: we finally adopted an adult dog, four years old. It’s a Cavalier King Charles Spaniel. Already house broken, through the chew-stage, and the sweetest, snuggliest, most grateful dog ever! With an adult rescue, you know exactly what you’re getting. Their personalities are pretty set. (I don’t like surprises.) And the price was right- free to a good home! Adult rescues are the way to go, and I can’t say enough good things about this breed. Good luck!

  11. I have spent the last 2 weeks at school getting my classroom prepared when I’d rather be enjoying the last days of summer. My oldest heads back to college tomorrow. I have staff meetings on Monday and Tuesday and school starts for me and my younger daughter on Wednesday. She’s going into high school and is not looking forward to it so we’ve had to deal with some anxiety issues. It’s been a different kind of summer for us as well as an extremely fast one. I could use a couple more weeks of summer as I love the warm weather (not hot) and am not looking forward to winter.

Good luck with the dog search. Enjoy the weekend!

  12. I am trying to still catch some sun that I love. On the other hand really ready for the cooler days of fall and planning what flowers to plant.
The best dogs are from the pound and not a pure breed. Those have been our best dogs and cats and I think they are healthier also…

  13. I totally understand you liking the crazy/lazy days, but I am SO opposite! I love, thrive, and crave routine. I get majorly stressed when I can’t be in my routine, and it keeps me going. I fail at everything in life if I don’t have my routine!

  14. I’m so sorry to hear about the rough times…
It is kind of ironic you write about searching for a dog, we just made the tough decision to not keep ours anymore after several years. It was in everyone’s best interest, but we still miss him!
