Summer Jersey Dress

I was going to title this post, What to Wear to Your Child’s Graduation, and then I remembered that moms aren’t going to get to go their kids’ graduations this year. How sad is that?

Well, then, this is a great outfit to wear to church, or out to dinner, or to a casual wedding… since most happening this summer are going to be small anyway.

This is the Esmeralda Jersey Dress from Boden, and it’s 30% off right now with code T6F4.

It’s made of a drapey jersey fabric, and the skirt hits just below the knee.

It comes in four color ways, and each pattern is different. Actually, three are patterns and one is solid black. This is the Milkshake, Facade Small.

It’s predominantly blush and navy, with some white and brown tones as well.

The bodice is fully lined, and it has a concealed back zipper and a tie at the waist. It’s also machine washable.

It has a boatneck and cap sleeves, and I really like how it dips into a V at the back.

My only complaint is how the armholes are cut on the larger side. I wish they came up higher under the arms.

This dress is probably going to be more flattering on someone smaller on top — I think it’s probably made for the pear-shaped among us. Something about the way it’s cut on top makes me look a little broad through the shoulders and thick in the waist.

That’s why I typically go for sheath styles with good structure, but not everyone can wear a sheath, and I wanted to show some different styles throughout this series.

This dress runs TTS or maybe a bit small. I’m wearing the 8 regular, and it also comes in petite and tall sizes.

I paired it with white leather espadrille sandals. I got these last summer, and I was so glad to see them back again this year.

They’re remarkably comfortable for a 4″ heel, but the platform is 1″ so that helps with the heel drop.

The straps are a smooth, soft leather that feel good against the foot. I’ve never had an issue with rubbing or blisters.

I also carried a white bag. I don’t always match my shoes to my bags, but it seemed to make sense in this case, and really allows the dress to take center stage.

For accessories, I felt like the dress was too busy for a necklace, so I wore my Kendra Scott filigree hoops and cuff bracelet.

I can’t wait to be back in church and dressing up for going out to eat. In fact, we went out to eat last night, but I went a little more casual in white shorts and flat sandals.

  1. I love this dress.  I’m using your code and it’s only showing 15% off.  Do you have another code?  Thanks.

  2. oooooo, thanks for this.  Love this style and you’re right, it’s perfect for pear shapes like me. I always forget about Boden for some reason and they have really cute things for summer.  Even though it’s hard to know what events we’ll all be dressing for in the coming months….mostly I’m just fingers-crossed that we’ll make it to the beach this year!

  3. That is a pretty dress, even if isn’t the most flattering style for your body type.  It definitely isn’t for my body type! 😳  How did your personal training session go the other day?  I hope that you weren’t too sore that night!  Is the PT helping?  Have an awesome day!

  4. Pretty dress… I can see a denim jacket over it with a wedge for a more casual look😉. Hope your PT is going well.. yes very sad that many are missing their graduation this year and prom, that has to be difficult.

  5. I really like this dress and it seems perfect for the extra weight I put on while quarantining:( Perimenopause & being confined to home has not been good to me, so this dress looks like a cut that may hide some problem areas. Now if I only had somewhere to go to wear it too lol!! P.S. I really appreciated your honesty the other day on current events. I truly enjoy coming here and it being a little escape from everything else!

  6. Pretty dress and I like the back detail. I seem to be collecting dresses. I guess I am ready to dress up! Good call on the all white to show off the dress.

  7. Esmeralda is one of the nicest dresses on you that I have seen. Beautiful. You look fantastic in it. Shows off your figure and drapes perfectly. Hope you keep it.

  8. This dress is a nice nod to “graduation mom’s“! My daughter just graduated with her nursing degree. I bought a dress over a year ago in anticipation of the occasion. So sad not to be able to wear it. We did a family and friends zoom at home grad for her since she lives a few provinces away. I put the dress on for it but ended up changing into a linen black sleeveless instead. Suddenly the pretty floral, colourful sheath dress didn’t seem appropriate from the waist up on screen in a tiny square with my husband and 15 others! Maybe I will get to wear if for our 25th anniversary out to dinner if and when the restaurants reopen here!

  9. Beautiful! Yep – I am pear shaped and this cut is perfect for me. 🙂 (Thanks for going outside your comfort zone for this one!)
