Summer’s Cutest Comfort Sandals & Flip Flops

After spending two summers babying my finicky feet, I’m pretty much an expert on the most stylish and supportive comfort sandals on the market. If you follow my fashion posts, you’ve seen me feature quite a few pairs over the last couple of years, but now I’m going to sum it up for you with the best of the best.

Summer's Most Stylish Comfort Sandals & Flip Flops

Even if you don’t have finicky feet, it’s good for your overall health to wear practical shoes whenever you can. I used to love the flimsiest flip flops and the highest high heels, but nowadays I’m content to spend my days in shoes that are kind to my feet. Does that mean I’m officially old? Wait. Don’t answer that.

Fortunately there are a lot of great stylish options on the market so you don’t have to check your fashion sense at the door.

The Best and Most Stylish Comfort Sandals

1. Orthaheel a.k.a. Vionic

I list these first because they come recommended by so many podiatrist and physical therapists, and they do a really good job and finding the perfect marriage of comfort and style. I own 3 or 4 pairs of Orthaheel sandals, and you can see in my Daily Mom Style feature how often I wear them. My favorites are the Adelie. I get compliments on these everywhere I go.

The Lizbeth are really cute too, and because they have the back strap, they are easier to walk in.

2. FitFlops

A physical therapist I saw last summer suggested FitFlops for a stylish comfort sandal, and I have one pair. They’re definitely comfortable, and they have some cute styles, but they’re just too big for my flat feet. If you have thicker/wider feet, you might really like them. They have a lot of cute new style this year. I love the Biker Chick Thong.

3. Abeo

The Walking Company has been generous about sending me comfort shoes to try out. Abeo is their proprietary brand, and they basically have built-in orthotics. They sent me the Barbara to try out. The cork footbed molds to the shape of your feet, and these are probably the most comfortable sandals I’ve ever worn. I like that I can adjust both of the straps so they stay on my feet.

They also sent me the Brielle. These are super comfy in a different way. The footbed is made of this glorious soft suede material, and they cushion my feet nicely for flip flops. I really love the styling on these.

4. Born

Born Shoes makes a stylish, comfortable sandal. These aren’t quite as supportive as the ones I’ve listed above, in that they don’t have a biomechanical footbed, but they still have a level of comfort that is sufficient for most people without foot issues. Plus, CUTE!! I have Mai and the Tilda.

5. Birkenstock

Now I’m moving into foreign territory. I don’t own Birks, but they are in style right now, and I hear that they’re great for your feet so I decided to include them. I like this Gizeh style.

6. Dansko

Dansko is always reliable for a good quality comfort shoe, and they have some new styles that I think are really cute, like this Priya.

7. Earth Brand Shoes

Earth Brand Shoes are also very good for your feet. They’re style is a little more boho, but if you like that, you can find some cute options here. This is the Papaya.

I’m sure there are more. I’ve asked for suggestions before on my Facebook Page, but of course now I can’t find the thread. If you have some other suggestions, feel free to leave them in the comments!

  1. I have been a subscriber for a few weeks now (which I am loving) so I’m not sure if you do this sort of thing but have you ever considered this kind of post for men? My husband has flat feet and the worst taste in sandals. I’m convinced he can be comfy and not look “too girly” at the same time!

    1. Yeah, I’ve never written much on men’s fashion b/c my husband isn’t really a willing accomplice. 🙂 In fact, he never wears sandals. Ever. I’m not even sure what I’d recommend fora guy’s sandal. I think boat shoes or slip on sneakers are more in style right now? But truly, I’m not up on men’s style like I should be. You can’t go wrong with Abeo for support, though. Or birks are always kinda cool on guys. My brother is pretty fashion forward for a guy, and he loves his Birks. https://www.anrdoezrs.net/links/3902122/type/dlg/https://www.thewalkingcompany.com/birkenstock-arizona-soft-tobacco/35100 And there’s always Keens. https://www.anrdoezrs.net/links/3902122/type/dlg/https://www.thewalkingcompany.com/keen-clearwater-cnx-dark-earth-black/40441

      1. Thank you for getting back to me! Yea my husband doesn’t really care about fashion and I know pretty much nothing about men’s fashion except I like us to match for family photos! I will check out those links!

  2. I battle plantar fasciitis and some knee problems, and both of my foot doctors have told me to always wear shoes with arch support, a slight heel (NO flats) and absolutely never ever wear a shoe that’s a slide on (especially not flip flops) – it must have a some kind of ankle strap. They also frown on anything between your toes, because that means the shoe doesn’t have a lot of support around your foot.

Since I’ve been following that advice, I haven’t had any issues in more than a year! I’m so happy to be back playing golf, hiking and walking and some running.

None of the shoes above would work for me. For sandals, I wear mostly Abeo from The Walking Co., also Aetrex, Naot, Fly London, Wolky, Pikolinos, Kalso, Finn, Cobb Hill, Aravon, Chaco, Rieker, Jambu, some Fidji and Ecco.

I love when I find shoes that I can wear without thinking about my feet!!!

    1. Hey Janell, I’ve been told the same, but I just hate the looks of the ones with back straps and a thick straps across the top. The Barbara by Abeo is the best of the ones listed above. Even though there is no back strap, it pretty much has the support of one because of the way the strap comes across the top of the foot and is adjustable so i can get it tight. I try to stick to the arch support with a slight heel rule, and but I will go without a back strap if there is a strap on top that holds them on. The Orthaheel Adelie does that b/c it has the buckle I can tighten. Sometimes I just wear a sneaker because I’d rather where those than chunkier sandals. I guess everyone has to figure out how much support they need and how much style they’re willing to sacrifice for function, lol. I’m always trying to get away with as much as I can because I prefer the lighter, more delicate sandals. Nothing is ever easy, is it!?

      1. Hi JoAnne. Since I too have plantar fasciatis, I have also had the same recommendations at Janell above. I was recomended the Keen Naples II sandal by the foot guy and they are amazing. Has the cork that molds to your foot and the double strapping around the heel gives lots of support yet they are still strappy enough to make them cute. I do not have foot pain when I wear these, neither at the time or later in the day! Yay!!

  3. I’ve been wearing Birkenstiock Gizeh’s for the past 8 years and love them. They are very comfortable and I can walk for miles in them!

  4. I love Vionic and Abeos as well! Another brand I absolutely love is Taos which you can purchase many places including The Walking Company and Zappos. I have several pairs of Taos shoes and they are unique, extremely high quality, and often have very supportive arches built right into the food bed similar to Abeo. My most recent pair looks like a gladiator with a cork food bed and a great arch built in. Super comfy with no break in time. I got them in silver and got several compliments already out and about. They come in all the neutral colors plus fun ones like pink, purple, and metallics! https://www.thewalkingcompany.com/taos-trulie-silver/40840

Another pair I have (ON SALE!) is the Taos Party and it comes in 4 colors as well. Under a $100 right now! https://www.thewalkingcompany.com/taos-party-pewter/33935
