Sunday Best

And just like that, it’s Easter weekend!

I will be honest, I’m happy to see March come to an end. It’s been a cold, wet, dreary month here in Pennsylvania, and I’m more than ready to move on!

Not only is March coming to an end, but today is the last day of 22 Days of Spring Fashion. I hope you’ve enjoyed it! I’m wrapping up the series with a spring dress outfit.

For those who celebrate Easter, you may be planning your church outfit… or perhaps you need outfit ideas for other events you have coming up this spring. If so, allow me to present this dress for your consideration.

Sunday Best: Lauren Ralph Lauren Cap-Sleeve Floral-Print Jersey Dress with Sam Edelman Hazel Pointy Toe Pumps and KSNY shoulder bag

I tried on at least 10 dresses over the past few weeks, and I finally narrowed it down to two. Both are Ralph Lauren jersey dresses I ordered from Bloomingdales, and both are made with the same wonderfully forgiving stretch-jersey fabric. I’ve had one of these dresses before, and it was one of my favorites for quite a few seasons before I decided it was time to retire it.

That’s the one negative thing about dresses with memorable prints such as these — they don’t have the longevity or versatility of a dress in a solid fabric, but they’re so easy to accessorize and throw on and go that I’m willing to replace them a little more frequently.

Of all the dresses I tried, this one seemed to say “Easter Sunday” to me.

For one thing, I love the combination of navy, kelly green, and white for spring. I also think it’s such a pretty pattern; I like that the flowers are on a larger scale and spread out a bit, giving the eye some space to rest.

This dress is lined through the bodice, with a front skirt overlay, and I really like the crossover v-neckline and the shirring at the waist. It’s a very forgiving style for those of us who carry a little extra weight in the belly area.

For size reference, I’m wearing an 8. I tried both 6 and 8, and both fit and look nice, but the 8 gives me a little more breathing room.

The day we shot these pictures, it was 30 degrees outside, so I’m grateful we were able to find a spot to shoot indoors.

For the fun of it, I threw this coat on over my dress because that’s what I’ll be wearing if it’s that cold on Sunday.

Fortunately, we’re having some milder temperatures right now, and I’ll be in Virginia where it’s even warmer, so I think I’ll be able to get away with my silver trench coat. Hooray!

Since the dress makes quite a statement on its own, I kept the rest of the outfit simple with white pumps and an off-white bag.

I’ve sung the praises of these pumps many times before, so I’ll spare you the mantra, but suffice it to say, if you need a pair of comfortable, good quality, great looking pumps, look no further! They come in a gazillion colors too.

And that’s a wrap… another seasonal style challenge is in the books!

I usually do a recap post when I end series like this, and I’m planning to do that, but I’ll wait until Cyndi wraps up her 22 spring outfits so we can post our recaps on the same day.

Meanwhile, I’ll be back tomorrow with my March Favorites, and I’m already lining up content for next week so stay tuned for that!

I hope you all enjoy the rest of your Friday, and be sure to visit Cyndi to see the spring outfit she’s styling today.

  1. Hi Jo-Lynne! You look absolutely beautiful in this outfit! Quick question, are the pumps you are styling a pure white or more of an off-white?
Happy Easter and God bless you and your family today and always!

  2. The dress is stunning! I love wrap dresses. I will be wearing white pants and a floral top on Easter Sunday because it will only be in the thirties.  Brrrr.

  3. When I think of Easter Sunday, that outfits fits the bill.  After your post on dresses I checked out the Macy’s website.  They had a great selection online in my size.  However, when I clicked pickup in store, one dress available…..argh…….I realize it’s a small Macy’s, but really, one dress in 16???  Apparently I’ve waited too long to decide on an Easter dress!  Have a safe trip & wonderful time with family.  It”s nice to get away for a spell.   When I do, I always feel regenerated when I return!  Happy Easter!

  4. Wow, you really found a winner in this dress! It’s lovely, and it looks great on you. You look so comfortable and happy in it, too. I love the quality of Ralph Lauren clothing.

  5. This dress looks fantastic on you. It is one of my favorites from your IG try on sessions.
Wishing you safe travels and a wonderful Easter!

  6. I almost didn’t comment because you know how I feel about you in dresses—-(cue the angels singing……..)
I just have to say you look so absolutely lovely!! You just have the BEST figure for this dress and I’m so glad you kept it!!
    XOXO

  7. Great choice. I love that on you. The coat is perfect too. Wear dresses while you can. I’m at the age where I don’t wear sleeveless or need hose. Dresses in winter with boots. 🙂

  8. Lovely!!  Very classy and stylish.
On another note, are your legs bare or do you recommend anything to cover my 55 year old pasty white legs?

    1. Hey Laurie, I went bare. I’ve been using self tanner for a couple of weeks, and I feel like it gives me just enough color to feel comfortable going bare this time of year. (They look whiter here than they are in these pix b/c of something Alison does with her filter/processing style.) That said, with this outfit, I’d totally wear sheer pantyhose if my legs were still super white or if it was cold. These are what I recommend. The key to not looking frumpy is to wear hose that match your skintone and are super sheer. https://rstyle.me/n/c2kncagthw

  9. Hi Jo-Lynne,
I have been meaning to write to you to ask you about some shoes that I got through your website a while back and would like to get some more in different colors if they are still available. They are flats, they say Vince on the inside and Vero Cuoio on the bottom. I just love them and are wondering if you remember that link??? They are super comfortable for my fussy feet! Thanks!

  10. Hi Jo-Lynne. I love this dress on you. It is super flattering. I have a question for you. I purchased the Eliza J cap sleeve dress you pinned on your blog a week or so ago. I purchased the navy. It is a beautiful dress, but I sent it back because the cut underneath the arm was so low that I couldn’t figure out how to cover it. Is the one you are wearing cut low underneath the arms as well? (I realize the one you have on is Ralph Lauren.) This is the second time I have tried a cap sleeve dress from Nordstrom and had this issue. Do you just try to make do and buy a matching camisole/shapewear and hope that it matches if you lift your arms? I know this sounds crazy but I’m thinking surely others have this same issue.

Thanks for any tips/suggestions you have.

    1. That can be an issue. I think it’s b/c I’m short waisted, or maybe because I have thin arms and don’t fill that area, or maybe it’s just a thing dress designers are doing, but it is annoying.
