Sunday Morning #CoffeeTalk

farm

For some reason, I’m not feeling the Coffee Talk this morning, so this is a short one. This has been such an off week for me, with the whole school starting before Labor Day thing, and then a 4- day weekend and a 4- day work week. I thought it was Thursday until lunchtime on Friday, when I realized I was a whole day off.

Then I hosted a social media workshop yesterday, which was fun, but it was almost like I missed Saturday, and suddenly it’s Sunday. WHAT!??

I had a nice walk/run this morning. The rain yesterday took our hot, humid weather with it, and I could finally exercise without feeling like I was suffocating. The cornfields have been cut down, a sure sign of fall.

I’ve been trying to photograph more fall outfits. We have to take advantage of the times when the light is good and my husband is home, so some mornings we take 2 or 3 sets of pictures. This morning we banged out 3 sets before church. WOOT!

We have family photos scheduled this week, and I haven’t even started thinking about what we are going to wear. I’ve sort of been waiting to see what the weather’s gonna be like since we are doing outdoor photos, but now it’s suddenly here. Coordinating 5 people is no easy feat, but I guess it will come together. I’m excited to see how they turn out.

Let’s see, what else. The kids have all settled into the school routine without much drama. That is not always the case, so I’m truly grateful. Marching band season is well under way, and I’m already starting to plan the 3 birthdays we have coming up. My children all have milestone birthdays this year — 10, 13 and 16, so they are each helping me plan something special that I hope will make this year particularly memorable for them. Fortunately only one wants a full-out birthday party. I don’t think I could handle 3 of those in one year. Usually they take turns, but as they get older, they are more interested in events or experiences to celebrate their birthdays, and that is just fine with me.

That’s about it for me. I’ve been working on my posts for this week, and I have a lot of cute fall outfits, a post about my new glasses (quite a few have asked about them), and maybe a fun fall recipe if I can get my act together. I hope you have a lovely rest of the weekend!

  1. Hi Jo-Lynne – love your blog and your fashion, family and recipe posts! Thank u! I was just reading about you planning your kids’ birthday parties. Which one is having the full-out party? I have twin boys who ate turning 10 next month and I want to have an outdoor party at a nearby park that I have reserved. I want to have them do activities (I have to come up with them!????) and I want all the kids (25-30?) to each make a tie-dye shirt (am I crazy?). I was wondering what u were doing for your 10-year old’s birthday…I’m trying to come up with activities that don’t seem too corny!! Thanks for any tips/advice you can send my way!

    1. Hey Diane! She wants to have a spa/dance party at Sweet & Sassy. Do you have those places? We’ve done the outdoor thing at a park once – my husband led the games. It was for my son’s 8th or 9th birthday. It was fun, but WORK. LOL. My goal is to have to do nothing except show up with a cake and take pictures. 😉

  2. I have three daughters two with April birthdays. The birthday-party thing was truly daunting so I gave them an alternative…birthday party or shopping with Mom. I was so happy when they chose shopping!! It gave us one-on-one time, and I didn’t have to run around shopping, cooking, and baking the entire week. Let’s not even talk about the clean up!

While I’m not a big mall shopper, it was much more bearable than 20 kids trashing my house, and the girls learned a lot about money in the process by always looking for the sale!
