Sweatshirt Trim Sweater

Happy Saturday, friends! I’m back today with another look that is squarely in my comfort zone — relaxed sweater, skinny jeans, and ankle boots. This is the type of outfit I live in this time of year.

This sweatshirt trim sweater was love at first sight. I love the juxtaposition of the sporty sweatshirt trim and the feminine lavender melange, and it’s made of the softest cotton.

We tried to get a closeup of the sweatshirt trim and pretty melange knit, but it looks kind of blown out here. The picture on the Loft website is more accurate.

It has a relaxed shape to it, which isn’t my most flattering silhouette, but for casual days and a sweater as pretty as this one, I’m willing to make an exception. Sometimes it’s just nice to throw something on that doesn’t cling anywhere, can I get an amen???

I paired this sweater with my favorite AG legging ankle jeans — this is the pair from the Nordstrom Anniversary Sale, and they’re back on sale again. Sizes are limited, but you really can’t go wrong with any of the AG legging ankle jeans. Conveniently, Bloomingdale’s is running their Denim Days event right now — save 15% on one pair of jeans and 25% on two more more! (I ordered these and these and I’m crossing my fingers that they both work out.)

Even though higher rises and straighter silhouettes are coming back into vogue, I don’t see skinnies going “out” anytime soon. They’re just too easy to wear, and you’ll have to pry mine out of my cold dead hands, ha! That said, if it’s not your favorite silhouette, this top would be just as cute with bootcut jeans.

To make this outfit super cute, I wore my grey suede ankle boots, but when I’m at home I’d swap them out for loafers or slip-on sneakers… or maybe even slippers. #justbeinghonest

I still love my grey suede loafers from last season, and they will be perfect with this. Nordstrom Rack still has some in black, and I just discovered a similar pair at J.Crew. In fact, I just ordered them in navy blue because they’re on sale and I’ve been wanting to add navy flats to my closet.

This leather shoulder bag in the putty color has a casual vibe that works great with this outfit, and I love the combination of the light grey with the darker grey booties. FYI, it’s part of the Bloomingdale’s Loyallist Buy More/Save More sale going on right now.

Because of the sweatshirt trim on the sweater, I bypassed a necklace and wore larger earrings instead. I went with silver to coordinate with the hardware on my bag, and also I just think silver looks nice with the cool tones in this sweater.

These silver-plated filigree drop earrings are perfect for this look because they’re casual but also shiny — and a girl can always use a little bling! Bonus, they’re on sale for $16 at Macy’s. Then I just added my silver link bracelet to finish off this easy look.

  1. Love, love, LOVE this on you!  That sweatshirt is like a fall hug!  So cute on you.

Two unrelated things, the Brahmin biannual tent sale in Fairhaven, MA is going on this weekend — maybe tie in a trip to family and Maine next year to hit both?  LOL.

Nordstrom has your Paige Verdugo skinnies in a BEAUTIFUL cinnamon color velvet.  Would look gorgeous on you for a holiday party.  I wish I could wear skinnies, but c’est la vie.

    Bootcuts are my jam!

  2. Love this Sweater! Sweatshirts are so comfortable, but I feel that they are sloppy looking or too casual to wear out in public. This sweater is the answer! The comfort of a sweatshirt with the style of a sweater. Also, love the color AND the sale price AND it comes in petite sizes!

  3. Love this color on you and it says comfort all over it… I love a sweatshirt that’s more sweater… hope you have a nice brunch and so nice  that you’ll get to spend sometime with your son this weekend. Another hot day today:)
    Happy weekend

    1. With this pair, I went up from my usual AG size. I normally wear the smaller of my two sizes though. So if you’re ordering from Bloomingdales, size down if you tend to be in between. If you order this exact pair from Nordstrom, I would recommend going with the larger. So I have a 29 in these, but I wear a 28 in most of my other AG jeans.

  4. What a pretty sweater!  And I think it looks very nice on you.  And yes, it is nice to wear tops that don’t show the world the excess on my body.  Heck, if I am not going to provide views of ‘the girls’ you better believe I’m not going to provide views of the unwanted extra.  I know you will be happy to see David.  In Macon, GA, yesterday, they recorded the hottest Sept. temp since 1999, and the 90’s are not going anywhere.  It was 98 on our front porch!  Needless to say, I have not changed out my clothes yet.  Have an awesome day!

  5. I LOVE this sweater! Wish it came in plus size! But some day….I’m down 11 pounds and my goal is regular size clothes.

  6. Love that sweater, wish it came in more colors!  I wanted to ask you….you don’t go to Old Navy much, and I don’t look there much either, but they have an incredible faux suede Moto jacket, wonderful quality, several colors, great price.  I saw it recommend somewhere and ordered on in a rich camel color.  I thought you might be interested in checking it out!  Love your blog.  I’m in western KY, originally from MN, so am looking forward to lower temps and less humidity too!

    1. I fell in love with that faux suede Old Navy moto jacket. I tried it after their sweater knit incarnation became one of my favorite jackets, even moreso than many more expensive ones. I’m slightly embarrassed to say I now own it in several colors. I’m with Deb, definitely recommend.

  7. This outfit looks super cute and oh so comfy. Perfect for Saturday’s running around.
I bet you were excited when your son called to say he was coming home for the weekend. What’s his favourite dinner?

  8. I like that sweater! I have a similar relaxed boyfriend sweater in cashmere that I will style like this later in the fall. Still too warm for sweaters here, I’m jealous of your weather – NYC is supposed to stay in the upper 70s all week. Have a great weekend!

  9. Hi! Cute outfit! Love the booties. Are these the taupe suede color? I don’t see gray as a color choice. Also, how do I use (or where is) your shopping widget? I thought I read about using it to order, but also get notified when stuff goes on sale. I need a sale alert for these booties! ;0)

    1. Hey Debbie, yes, they’re the taupe, and the shopping widget is at the very end of the post, under the SHOP THE LOOK heading. You will see pictures of the items from the websites, and under that is a heart you can click to Save To Favorites. I hope that helps!

      1. Thanks. I’ve used the Shop the Look several times…didn’t realize that was also the widget. Thought there was a separate widget thing. Lol. Anyway, I hearted the booties. :0)

  10. Okay, this sweater has my name all over it. I SO wish there were other color options though. I like the two colors offered, I just don’t need to add either to my closet.
I’m still waiting on these jeans too. I ordered them immediately during the sale, but decided to exchange for a smaller size and that pair came with the knee blown. My last attempt is on the way, so let’s hope 3rd time’s a charm!

  11. Your “comfort zone” is “right up my alley” 😉 I love this look on you, this is the comfortable but put together look I strive for. Hope you enjoyed your brunch and have a relaxing weekend.

  12. Amen! I hear you. I’m about the same size on top as you and I try to wear things that don’t cling but its hard to always find tops that disguise it and also not make you look bigger than you are around the middle. I love this outfit on you.
