Suede Moto Jacket Outfit | 22 Days of Fall Fashion

If a sweater and jeans is my favorite look for fall, a suede moto jacket outfit is a close second. For today’s post, I’m styling a taupe suede moto jacket with washed black jeans and taupe suede booties.

I have to admit, I don’t think I’d have come up with this combination on my own. I saw it first on one of the influencers I follow for style inspiration.

As soon as I saw this look on my Instagram feed, I knew I had to recreate it. I just love the different shades of black and taupe and how they all play off each other.

Remember those off-black jeans I was trying to style for my date night last weekend? (If you missed it, the outfit evolution is at the end of this post.) I didn’t end up wearing them that night because the sandals were throwing everything off, but it was too warm that night for booties, so I finally ditched the entire look and wore something totally different.

Well, they work perfectly with this suede moto jacket outfit. As soon as cool weather sets in here in Philly, I’m so wearing this.

Washed black denim is trending right now, and it’s a great option to have in your wardrobe, especially if you wear a lot of jeans. Unfortunately my exact jeans are sold out, but this pair is similar, and this pair is another good option.

This jacket has been a staple in my fall wardrobe for several years, and it’s still going strong. I actually have it in two other colors as well, but I wear the taupe far more than either of the others. It’s such a great neutral shade and so versatile.

The suede on this moto jacket is soft and luxe, the hardware is sturdy, and it’s fully lined. I like how it doesn’t have a belt or epaulettes because they tend to add bulk in areas where I don’t need it. It has just enough moto styling to give it a bit of toughness, but it’s still refined and classy.

I’ve been wearing mine for going on three seasons, and it’s held up great. For size reference, I take a medium in BlankNYC jackets.

I’m wearing a black mixed jersey tank underneath. This is another one of my tried and true wardrobe staples. It’s from Ann Taylor, and I like how it’s a little dressier than a t-shirt, but it doesn’t look like I’m wearing lingerie.

In fact, I like this tank so much, I also have it in ivory. I wear it a lot under jackets and cardigans.

I don’t usually wear belts, but I thought it added a nice focal point to the inspiration outfit, so I added one. It really does have a way of finishing off the look. I need to invest in a few more so I have some other options.

My ankle boots are a similar shade of taupe to the jacket, and they have a subtle Western flare that is very much on trend right now.

The stacked block heel is stable and easy to walk in, and the elastic goring on the sides makes them easy to slip on and off. There’s a zipper in the back if you need it, but I usually don’t.

I recommend sizing up half if ordering these boots. I needed the 8 1/2.

I noticed that Meagan didn’t wear a necklace with her look, but I felt like I needed some bling so I added this mixed metal disc necklace. I’ve had it for years, and I often end up wearing it with my moto jackets because something about the hammered metal and antique gold seems to work really well with casual, edgy looks.

I’ve styled this taupe suede moto jacket countless ways over the years, but this may be my best look so far. I love the combination of textures and neutral tones.

When it gets colder, I can swap out the tank for a black turtleneck, and I might try it with taller shaft booties so I can wear socks. I’m thinking the Vince Henderson boots from the #NSale might work. I’ll give it a try and let you know how it looks!

  1. Great look JoLynne! Very classy, as always. Loving your fall style series. And it’s a record low of 55 here today in the Dallas area so this look is extra cozy! Have a wonderful day. 🙂

  2. I LOVE everything about this outfit and how nice you look!  The necklace is perfect.  I would like to know what third piece you would wear with this outfit, if you did not have a motto jacket.  I hope y’all were able to get the photo shoot done before the rain.  You would have the same challenge down here today thru next Thursday.  Make it a great day!

    1. You could do a long taupe or oatmeal colored cardigan, but it would be a different look. Still could be very chic, though!

And yeah, we had to reschedule our photo shoot. Hoping tomorrow is better.

  3. Great look JoLynne! I love taupe as it is so versatile. Just curious –  who is the fashion influencer that inspired you to put together this outfit?

  4. I bought this jacket back in March on sale: I love it!  I still can’t see the black color in those jeans though…..they look faded blueish to me. Must be my computer.)
Our skies are filled with clouds of ash from all the fires burning across California right now.  It was really eerie yesterday as the sky was cloudy with a red glow overhead. We’re used to preparing for “fire season” this time of year, but this is the worst we’ve ever seen. 2020 just keeps on giving….😩

    1. Heather………. we too are dealing with fire smoke and the hazy, cloudy skies with orange glow.  We have to stay inside as the air quality is bad.  Oregon is having many fires and so many towns are just burned up. Soooo sad.  My husband is a fire chief and my son is a fireman also, so busy for them right now and I try not to worry.  I just wish our country could get a break.  Jo-Lynne, I LOVE this look on you. Its just your style for sure.  I’m like others, my computer screen reads the jeans as a more blueish tone but, I’m sure the off black is just the ticket.  I have a weird thing about faded black jeans. I hate when my dark black jeans start to fade and don’t stay true black, so I don’t think I’m one to buy them faded. LOL  I do see they are on trend.  Are the suede moto jackets hard to clean…….dry clean?

      1. Oh Kathy, I’m so sorry for you too! Blessings to your “men”….so thankful for our firefighters.
I just tried to take my dogs out for a walk and the air quality is so bad. We’re getting it coming up from the San Diego County fire as well as from the east from the San Bernardino fires.

  5. Hi! I have a question about the fit of moto jackets. I know the shoulders need to fit, but should I also be able to do them up even though I don’t intend to wear them closed?  I am searching for guidance about how to know the jacket doesn’t look too small but also doesn’t add too much visual weight when wearing it unzipped. (I LOVE this outfit, btw.)
Also  it seems the earrings are sold out. 😢If you ever find a similar pair to go with this necklace, please post. Thanks!!

    1. Honestly, I’ve never tried to zip it. I would go based on how it fits without it zipped and not worry about if it zips or not… unless, of course, you plan to zip it. But I’ve never really paid attention b/c I never zip mine.

If you’re worried about it being too small, try it on over the thickest sweater or top you think you might wear under it, and move around and make sure it’s comfortable. And take some mirror pictures from the back to see how it fits on all angles. I hope that helps!

Nordstrom has a bunch of hammered silver hoop earrings, most of these would look great with this necklace: https://shopstyle.it/l/bmnD2
