Casual Thanksgiving Outfit Idea

I’ve had a few people ask if Cyndi and I are planning to do the 12 Days of Holiday Outfits series again this year. The short answer is no, however, we intended to include some holiday looks in our 25 Days of Winter Fashion, plus I’ve been slowly updating those old holiday posts with new links. With Thanksgiving fast approaching, I realize that I’ve only shared one holiday look so far — my Holiday Party Style with Ross. I hope to remedy that today!

My What to Wear for Thanksgiving post was super popular last year, and that post is one that I’ve updated, so definitely check it out. In addition to the three Thanksgiving outfit ideas in that post, today I’m sharing a super cute and easy outfit that is perfect for a casual Thanksgiving Day gathering, and you can probably put it together from items you already have in your closet. I hinted at this outfit with a top-down selfie in my Insta Recap yesterday.

Thanksgiving Outfit Idea: Chambray Shirt and Leopard Scarf with Leggings and brown Over the Knee Boots

I finally invested in Over the Knee Boots, and I’m having a blast styling them in different ways. (If you don’t have over the knee boots, any brown knee-high boot will work for this look.)

I was actually wearing this outfit with my UGGs when these boots came in the mail, and I threw them on with it just to see how they looked on, and I loved them with the outfit so much that I recreated it last Saturday for this photo shoot. My husband and I went over to a nearby town to get some fun pictures while my daughter was in her dance class. We got some strange looks, but that’s okay. All in a day’s work. Ha!!

I saw these boots on the Nordstrom Fall Clearance sale and fell in love. They’re more than I really wanted to spend, but they were on sale, and I love the styling and the color. I was tempted to get them in grey because it compliments my wardrobe better, but I went with this saddle color because they have a more casual vibe that helps to offset the drama of the OTK boot style. I’m really happy with this choice.

If you’re looking for over the knee boots with a lower price tag, Kohl’s has a nice selection, and they’re all under $100. Unfortunately none look like these. In fact, I checked quite a few websites for a more budget-friendly option, and the closest I could come was these tan Raimi Boots at Macy’s for $89.

Over the Knee Boots

One reason I suggest this outfit for Thanksgiving is because the color palette seems festive. The other reason is the leggings, yo! With leggings and a relaxed style shirt, you can eat all the turkey you want and still look chic and put together. Score!!!

I’m wearing my Ponte Solution Leggings from White House Black Market, but I also love and adore these Hue Ultra Wide Waistband Leggings at Nordstrom for $27. The Ponte Leggings from WHBM are a bit thicker, and they have a seam up the back of the leg, but the Hue leggings are fantastic and half the price. For size reference, I have the medium in both.

This chambray shirt is from LOFT. (Mine is a medium.) I picked it up on their 40% off sale a few weeks ago, and I love the relaxed styling and Henley button placket. It’s long enough to wear with leggings, but if you have a chambray shirt that isn’t quite long enough, consider wearing it over an extra-long tank top, or wearing a long cardigan over top. This Grandpa Coatigan would be adorable with this outfit, and it is currently 50% off.

For jewelry, I stacked on some bracelets, and I added my Stella & Dot Maylee ring.

I just wore simple gold hoops for earrings.

As for the scarf, mine is old, but I tried to find a few similar styles. This one and this one aren’t the infinity style, but the patterns are close. The B.P. one that I linked to in my Insta Recap is already sold out. Boo. This one is spendy, but very similar. This one is darker, but it’s only $9.99. Or maybe you have one in your closet!

  1. This is a great look and those boots are fantastic! I ordered a chambray tunic a couple weeks ago to wear with leggings, but I’m still debating on whether to keep. I’m so indecisive! I’m definitely trying this look if I do keep it though.

  2. I love/need/want/covet those boots —– they are fabulous. I am on the hunt for OTKBs – I need a lower heel though. That color is just the best I think you can pair them with so many things ! Hitting up Nordstroms this week I am sure I will find a pair 🙂

  3. Another great outfit! I’ll be looking around for a chambray tunic now. I have a scarf that is close to the one you’re styling. I also noticed some control top leggings on the Christopher and Banks website. So a shopping I will go. By the way, the photography is awesome! Your photographer (aka husband!) does a great job! And he has a very photogenic subject to work with. You’re a natural!

  4. Love this look! I’m seeing a lot of the OTK boots and I think it’s a great look, but not sure if I can pull it off on my 5’3″ frame…

      1. Maybe that would work! Also, wondering if I need to stick with all one color… like black boots with black leggings to elongate my short legs 🙂

  5. I really like the outfit! The strange looks may have been because people were trying to decide what celebrity they were seeing! A leopard print infinity scarf is on my “to buy” list.

    Have a blessed day!

  6. This is a great post, but I want to complement you on an older post that I referenced last week. It was a tutorial on applying eye makeup. It was very simple and easy to follow. I was feeling out of sorts and not very pretty. I knew that I needed help with my makeup, and your step-by-step instructions turned it around for me. I really like my updated look. Thanks and Happy Thanksgiving!

  7. I like that Loft shirt a lot better on you than the model website. It’s hard to the fit on the website. I just ordered a similar shirt from Glamour but if that doesn’t work I am going to try this one.

And thanks for the featuring the Florence Instasculpt Jeans. OMG they are fantastic. I am probably going to buy another pair.

  8. Girl, you are “wearing” those boots! They look fabulous on you!! Loving how you styled them!! The exclamation key on my ipad is going to wear out!!

  9. I love your outfit 🙂 So many Thanksgiving outfits I have seen are too fancy for the relaxed holidays we have. This one looks good while still being comfortable. Just what I am looking for.

  10. Another outfit win! I love the idea of leggings for an all-you-can-eat holiday like Thanksgiving. I still need to find some ponte pants. I will check out your suggestions.

I found some over the knee boots last season at Target with a slightly lower heel. They are almost a taupe color so they go great with all outfits. I get compliments every time I wear them. I know they were on sale when I purchased them, and I paid less than $50!

  11. Hi, I absolutely love the over the knee boots. It suits the outfits you have chosen just perfectly.
    Best regards
    Maureen
