The Best Laid Plans… #CoffeeTalk

Yesterday I had an appointment at the elementary school so I got it in my head that I’d stop into my favorite cupcake shop and get a dozen cupcakes to take to the staff and teachers at school. I envisioned passing them out to the office staff, dropping in to meet the new nurse and offering her one and having enough left for my daughters’ teachers.

I picked up the cupcakes on my way back from dropping the girls at school, all gorgeous as usual, and left them on the front seat of my car as I went back into my house to work for an hour before I had to go to the appointment.

As I was tapping away at my keyboard, I noted that the appointment was actually later than I thought. (Typical me, I never seem to get the right time in my head, good thing I checked or I’d been there an hour early — which, in retrospect, wouldn’t have been so bad, but anyway.)

It did actually occur to me that I had cupcakes sitting in the car, but it was a cool day and they weren’t in the sun. I kept working.

When I went out to my car at 11:30 to go to the school, I was horrified to find that the sun had turned so it was blazing right down on my prized cupcakes and they looked like this:

The frosting was sliding off the cupcakes — the pumpkin ones were by far the worst for the wear — but they were all so soft that I knew I couldn’t take them in and pass them out.

Jo-Lynne the Airhead strikes again!

I. Give. Up.

See, this is why I don’t do nice things. It just never works out!!

Well, my kids certainly were not disappointed to hear about my mishap so all’s well that ends well, I suppose. Nothing was wasted, I assure you. I will try to do my good deed for the teachers another day.

So I found the Miracle Gel! WOOT! I had to stop into another CVS store yesterday to pick up the custom mouse pad that I ordered, and lo and behold, there it was!

I cannot WAIT to try it. I will report back.

And finally, Dancing with the Stars has started, and so far I’m mixed about it. I love Lea Thompson — she’s best known for her role in Back to the Future, but I also loved her in Some Kind of Wonderful, even though she wasn’t the girl they guy was supposed to end up with. And I used to watch C in the City, which had a short run, but was such a cute show. Plus, I’m always rooting for the midlife moms they have no the show. I guess I can’t help it. It’s like rooting for ME. She almost got voted out last night, though, so I’m not sure how long she’ll be around.

And I have to admit, I’m so intrigued by Bethany Mota. These people (and kids!) making themselves into celebrities on YouTube just fascinates me. Note to self: do more video.

Tommy Chong is hysterical and surprisingly nimble for a man his age. I’ve never watched Duck Dynasty, but Sadie Robertson is darling and shows lots of potential.

And of course, CARLTON!!!

I’m not a fan of having a 4th judge. It’s so unnecessary, and while Julianne Hough is adorable, I don’t think we need her commentary (or her cleavage, thankyouverymuch.)

So what’s going on in your world??

  1. I use this nail polish almost exclusively now. I have a collection of almost 100 bottles of other brands of polish so that says a lot about how much I love it! I do not get two weeks out of it, but I do get at least a good 5 days with only tip wear. That is a long time for me. I am hard on my nails and usually can only go 1- days without chips with other brands. This stuff never actually chips, I just get too much tip wear and have to reapply. Good luck!

  2. Whenever I read your stories like the cupcake story, or the bowl-of-dough-breaking-on-a-hot-burner story, etc. I can’t help but laugh (and feel sympathy) because I do stuff like that ALL THE TIME. Once, after I dropped my husband’s laptop, he said, “This klutziness is a little excessive, don’t you think?” Um, yeah…I hadn’t noticed. He chalks it up to me not taking necessary time, thought and care…which is probably true a lot of the time…but I do seem to have a natural gift for things like this…and so I feel your pain…AND I laugh. 🙂

  3. I NEVER watch DWTS because I just love SYTYCD so much and it just is so clunky compared. But this year I tuned into the premiere because I love Alison Holker and they have so many other SYTYCD alums. I don’t watch DD either but I ADORED Sadie. Lea Thompson looked AMAZING and her story of ballet was so touching. And the MMA fighter was SUCH a surprise as was the guy from Mean Girls. And yes. Carlton forever. So I guess I will be tuning it 😉

  4. Hey, shouldn’t you at least get credit for not realizing the cupcakes couldn’t be given to teachers and then EATING them?? I mean. Not that that’s what I would have done… 🙂

      1. I’ve been around, reading but not commenting much! Just getting back into the swing of things since moving back from England. I love the #CoffeeTalk!! I am getting my blog back up shortly, thank goodness!! Have so much fun in Seattle!

  5. I watched DWTS several yeas ago but soon lost interest. My entire family adores Duck Dynasty, we live enough South I guess we get all the crazy hunter’s humor, plus we love that it’s a show that is completely safe to watch with the kiddos.

We are most excited about The Voice starting next week. We watched the entire season last Fall and now that’s our favorite family show, it’s so funny how the kids really get into it.

Another show my husband and I like is the Blacklist. The first season just came to Netflix so we are catching up and are excited for Season 2’s premiere next week.

  6. I think that was such a nice idea you had for the teachers! I have totally made that mistake though. When I did it, it was a very chilly winter day in Wisconsin, but the sun was out. I never occurred to me that the frosting would melt.

By the way, I love that you are doing these Coffee Talks every day now. I feel like I’m talking to a good girlfriend.

    Have a safe trip today!
